There are some really great submissions in here and I love that everyone is taking this opportunity to showcase some of their photography skills. Very, very nice.

Here's 5 of my favorites in no particular order.

1. Rear window (Blufans)

I love to see older movies come out with special editions. It's kind of sad doing this challenge and realizing yet again 80 percent of the special editions I have are Marvel and DC. There's so many cool old movies that never see a special edition. I could name a bunch and yes maybe they get a collectors edition Blu-ray or a cheap special edition from zavvi but most never get the premium treatment. This one is simple with the artwork but it's done well with spot gloss and foil text.

IMG_20220920_090451.thumb.jpg.31a6cf619015f754ac1bdb2bf790f82a.jpg

2. Prometheus (Filmarena)

This is one of my favorite movies of all time. The first ten minutes is my Bible lol! This full slip is sick with the pressed plastic cover. This is also the wife's favorite one for appearance.

3. The Gate 1&2 (Wicked Media)

I'm a sucker for most things retro it just reminds me of an easier and more fulfilling life. The VHS style cases like stranger things was awesome to see. This edition however made it even more realistic, you open it up by pulling out a box that resembles the VHS! Very cool.

IMG_20220919_131313.thumb.jpg.1b13bb62973cb84d39e42e07bf6a77e0.jpg

4) The Big Lebowski (home brewed Collab by JoMaSanRa and myself)

This is exactly what I mean.... A great movie with no premium edition, but I bet we will get all the Marvel and DC again lol! I found a guy from Spain that made custom boxes and booklets. I had him give me the Photoshop templates and did all the work for cover and booklet. Had him print and make the box and booklet. So it's my own personal premium lol.

5) Avengers Age of Ultron (Weet)

Weet is by far the best in the game right now. The amount of work that goes into these is stunning. Just in this one edition they are utilizing some killer embossing, spot glossing, and Holo foil. Weet's embossing on their boxes are spectacular. Much better then other premium retailers. These packages are literal works of art.

I'm scraping the bottom of the barrel to submit for this challenge, I have a disproportionate amount of Manta Lab compared to other retailers.

My last couple probably don't qualify as premium either. Even if that's the case and I don't actually qualify for the challenge...I still thought it'd be fun to share!

1. 2001: A Space Odyssey | WCL. I've seen this posted a couple times in this challenge already. This is the crown jewel of my collection, and my favorite movie.@Masterblaster was kind enough to sell me a copy back when I first joined the forum. Forever grateful!

image.thumb.jpeg.d42219036b7e7ed5eeec92e8b7151ba0.jpeg

2. Alien: Covenant | Manta Lab. I absolutely adore this release, and it was my introduction to premium editions. This is the one that started the obsession! The steelbook is so much better than the Best Buy release was. I bought it from Manta Lab directly, woke up in the wee hours of the morning to snag a copy.

IMG_1832.thumb.JPG.86f965a650eb243c77e2b206ce24ed9b.JPG

3. Dune | Arrow. The use of original poster art and matching steelbook really knocked this one out of the park. I wish we saw more releases with original poster art! The 4K transfer is dynamite as well.

IMG_1833.thumb.JPG.9ef319895ba21525b8240ed80c276deb.JPG

4. Ford V Ferrari | Target. While from a generic retailer, this one feels a little more special than their other exclusive releases. It's just really well done. Simple, not trying to do too much with the design, elegant.

IMG_1836.thumb.JPG.bac49a418e03e9f847f96ecb68517ebd.JPG

5. Star Wars Special Editions | 20th Century Fox. Okay, here's a real stretch of an entry, being a mainstream LaserDisc release. But I love this set: again, minimalism is key here. It's a really nice case and the booklet inside has the poster art, photos, chapter stops. Just a beauty to handle, and feels premium. I haven't yet acquired the Definitive Collection LaserDisc set, which probably (definitely) supersedes this release. I hear the Definitive Collection is susceptible to disc rot, so I've been apprehensive to pull the trigger.

IMG_1847.thumb.JPG.c0665b0814f07bc1dacc2a122238fef8.JPG

What really surprised me about this special edition LaserDisc release is the sound quality, it's surprisingly good. I don't watch these often because if I'm going to watch the special editions, I'll just toss in the 4K discs. If I'm going to watch the theatrical releases, I'll watch the original Fox LaserDisc release, or maybe the "Faces" release. I've got the high def fan scans too, but there's something special about spinning LaserDisc in 2022.

Anyway, that's what I've got to share. Also for the record, I've got an idea for another challenge!

@camwjohn95 that Revenant you showed is actually from Manta Lab, such a nice edition 👍

Oh, no! How embarrassing! I've had it for years and I think I've had a bad habit of mixing it up with the FilmArena editions! Last time I do one of these challenges before I get to work.

Anyways, remedy...

#4 "Sicario" (FilmArena, Czech... I'm sure of it, this time!)

Also, that "Pulp Fiction" pic in my original post was an accident. Eh, it goes with that whole, "I really wanted to say 'Pulp Fiction' from South Korea" thing. Anyways, thanks for letting me know.

This was a good challenge. It was hard to pick only 5 but here they are.

#1 My European release is Film Arena's Braveheart. I remember when my mom rented this on VHS from Blockbuster. I was a wee lad at the time and so she didn't let me watch it but I managed to catch a few glimpses. Braveheart.thumb.jpg.3c6e813458c8890c94fd9d5c2c7f92a7.jpg

#2 One of my Asian releases is Kimchidvd's Atomic Blonde. I love that they used a scene from the movie for the lenti's cover.

1800452600_AtomicBlonde.thumb.jpg.646b5c7739a5d5da71ca9361056ccf94.jpg

#3 Up next is Ghost in the Shell (2017) from Blufans. I know a lot of people didn't like this movie but I still enjoyed it, even as a longtime GiTS fan. I think the geisha cover was super creative although I wish there was a way to keep it open more easily.

1940455590_GhostintheShell.thumb.jpg.10a917d09026430e91fea0931feaf7cc.jpg

#4 This here is the Gladiator O.C. from HDzeta. There was an earlier premium of this one that I missed so I made sure to jump on this edition.Gladiator.thumb.jpg.357aca0f6c1c8b31f09561976e8caa0b.jpg

#5 Lastly, for my non-steelbook release, I picked UHD Club's Dark Knight trilogy. I'm a huge Batman fan and I adore Nolan's take on the character. I willingly passed on HDzeta's motherbox because it seemed like such a massive set that it wouldn't fit in my space at the time. When I saw this edition, I decided that life's too short and went for it. I especially love TDK's cover.

That turned out great @Sotaboy, did not expect anyone to post a custom on this challenge, but I think we can allow on your post 👌, Can't wait to ket my AoU WeET 😍

@hansdermeister I could not agree more with you, we need more original movie poster art used, especially for the 80s, 90s when they really created some awesome art for the posters.

@HeightOfFolly I really like that Braveheart too, I wish we would finally get a 3 Edition OC Box with WEA Steelbook for Braveheart, I would buy 2 of that 😍. You additional choices are also stunning.

Well, there are so many stunning and exceptional editions which makes this very difficult to decide which should be shown for this second challenge.

Therefore I decided to select editions to whom I also have a more personal connection. Each of them reminds me why I collect Steelbooks and other editions. Most of the shown editions are therefore older editions which probably today would not count as "Premium" but for the time of the release these edition were limited and special edition and at this times that means limited or special. Special thanks to John @Masterblaster for his support and the organisation of Group Buys, long time before MP was opened. Without his support a larger part of the shown editions below would probably not part of my collection.

1. Harry Potter 1 - 7.2 Elder Wand Edition (Amazon exclusive in Germany as well as in France as far as I know) - European release, non Steelbook

This edition was bought as my collection was small but was a trail to convince my wife that such collection isn't a problem at all. So the edition was presented as "gift" to her to included my wife in this hobby. It works ... for a couple of minutes. Anyway, this is a beautiful edition and i like this edition more than for example the HP castle edition, because it is more compatible for presentation on a sideboard in the living room.

Psycho_Challenge2_2.thumb.jpg.2fbf6bbaf997a978d6c62f795668f818.jpg

2. Harry Potter 1 - 7.2 with collection case  (FutureShop Exclusive editions) - American release, Steelbooks

I hope the rules from @R1s1ngs0n allow also the variant European/American Edition from the same Movies instead of European/Asian editions.

I know that similar editions could be bought during the last years with UHD versions of this film. However, the FutureShop releases were single release which were sold step by step and if I'm remember correctly the case could be bought with the HP 7.2 movie, if you was fast enought. John @Masterblaster please correct me if my memory is wrong. This was another kind of collecting, more a long hunting. At this time the releases by FutureShop were very popular and but unfortunately withou international shipping.  I still like this editions and the simple design of the steelbooks.

Psycho_Challenge2_4.thumb.jpg.d868663a164bbf819200546ce5110508.jpg

3. Cinema Paradiso - Limited Wooden Box edition  Asian release, non Steelbook

I like this edition due to this unique design with a wooden box and a velvet like slip for the package. Additonally this melancholic movie is fabulous and rightly an Oscar-winning piece of the cinema history.

Psycho_Challenge2_6.thumb.jpg.a0e987418d0d2da4ab2ff142146387d8.jpg

4. Farewell my Concubine (BluFans exclusive Collectors edition) - Asian release, Steelbook

This release is one of my alltime favorite Steelbooks even it has no embossing, no fullslip, no lenticular. It is just a beauty with an extraordinary deisgn.

This is not a release from the normal exclusive or OAB BluFans line-up. It was originally made only for the members of the Blufans forum (same as "Let the Bullets Fly").

Psycho_Challenge2_7.thumb.jpg.894f52b81f96f041ba3bc2f9ad7b3aa7.jpg

As the design detail is not visible on the first picture a take another one with a spot on the surface so that the butterflys are visible. Really a cool idea and so nice.

Psycho_Challenge2_8.thumb.jpg.649d2bb1be8ea08dfbefbb4f5da121cb.jpg

5. Thor - The Dark World (M2 exclusive edition)  - American release, Steelbook

This release cannot be missing in my selection as this fan made edition by @Masterblaster and mehbeh is one of my own grails and in my opion just a masterpiece. I'm so proud that I own such edition and similar to Farewell my Concubine this single edition is also part of my alltime favorites.

Psycho_Challenge2_9.thumb.jpg.338c64339eb6605f3d339dba2ebbd309.jpg

Psycho_Challenge2_10.thumb.jpg.8ce3b494c6f11167aa699b4acc6670cb.jpg

For the case that one of my first five selection would not count I added a further edition

6. The Twilight Saga - Breaking Dawn - part 1 (Deluxe Edition) - European release, non Steelbook

This was also a trial to convince my wife at a time as the amount of editions increasing rapidly. A similar release in the U.S. was called "Wedding Dress Edition" due to the design and structure of the box cover. Unfortunately there was no similar release for the second part and therefore my trial was also not a big success.

I'm appologize for the long post but I guess short explanations were requested in this challenge.

Fabulous editions you got there. That BF Farewell My Concubine looks very pretty indeed.

Maybe I'm wrong but I don't believe anyone included in their submissions the gorgeous steelbook of The Handmaiden by Plain Archive/CJ Entertainment.

One of my biggest regrets is selling my quarter slip (I liked the movie but wasn't gaga over it) since the steelbook alone warrants a place in anyone's collection.

Just look at it 😍

Challenge #2

Here are my top 5 edition (as of rn, it's always changing) of my favorite films.

Wild At Heart - WCL - non steelbook edition. David Lynch is one of my favorites!

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - Kimchidvd - just love the artwork.

Alita - Filmarena - has everything I want in a fullslip.

Blade Runner 2042 - The wooden box editions by UHDClub are just something else!

Joker - Cinemuseum - I just love the CM Art line.

I also just remembered that I have another European release which I adore and was absolutely euphoric when I managed to snag a sealed copy through a third party seller.

Masters of Cinema (Eureka Entertainment) limited hardbox edition of one of my favorite ever movies, Sergio Leone's Duck, You Sucker! aka A Fistful Of Dynamite.

Complete with reversible amaray sleeve and a fantastic 60-page booklet.

Yeah, this one is definitely my favorite European edition.

Maybe one day 🙂

It's beautiful, truly beautiful. Impressive.  Delicate. Elegant. Stylish. Fascinating. And yes, one of the best steelbooks I've seen.

I will never forget the day I bought it: I went later, it was sold out, and one day... trying only by chance... one additional copy appeared in stock and... zassssss!!! 🥰

I didn't include it on my selection to avoid to repeat retailer, and thinking about to save good bullets to future most beautiful steelbook challenge.... ;)

But I'm ready..... be sure... 🤘😍

My submission for MP Challenge #2:

A favorite movie of mine and an early purchase at the start of my collecting that I paid way too much for but well worth it. A "centerpiece" of any FAC collection.

Heat Fullslip

(FAC Exclusive No.2)

heat.thumb.jpg.81d119a04e11780e36a173b93a423058.jpg

My first premium purchase. The "got me in the premium game" item and never looked back. Also on the favorite movie list. The release itself is absolutely gorgeous!

The Shining Fullslip XL

(Black Barons Exclusive No.24)

shining2.thumb.jpg.f1b669197545508f09759c8a63fd8d4c.jpg

One of my holiest of grails that I finally obtained just recently. The amazingly beautiful box art is outstanding and I can't wait to open it up and see the rest of the gorgeous artwork inside.

The Shining Boxset

(Cine Museum Art #16)

Here is my favorite Batman movie of all time. The edition that set the standard for premium editions of the Nolan series. I lucked out when trying to acquire this edition as the seller offered me all three of the series with the same number.

The Dark Knight Boxset

(HDZeta Gold Label Exclusive #21)

My only non-steelbook premium release and it's a gem. The classic action flick, so simple but so elegant. Honestly I think I bought this early on thinking it was a Steelbook, 😀

The Rock

(Blufans Exclusive OAB Slipbox Collector's Edition)

@Toapel happy-harry-potter.gif nice editions.

Also.....

zach-galifinakis-hangover.gif

about that Thor 😅

@Freeformfreakout that Alita is simply a stunning slip, I really wish they would do a second part, I had so much fun collecting the editions for 1 as the art had so much potential for cool editions.

Also nice choices @cypheria078 that UHD Schindler's List had such nice Bonus Items from @ksosk, very cool.

@R1s1ngs0n @Casiusco I did not get the terrific The Handmaiden editions when we had the GB, but when I saw members receive this I had to secure one. Truely stunning.

Great @ShadowWarrior, good to hear you got the TDKT with the same number, for me that adds even more greatness to having the Set 😍

Anyone that did not do challenge 2 yet

And remember people you can post when they have a challenge, see the rules below.

Spoiler

Can I also submit a Challenge?

Each member that is participating in a week can add to his post: "I have a challenge for next week".

It is important that you do NOT post the actual challenge/idea! It also must be a challenge that you yourself can solve, as you will be required to take part in your own challenge.

During the week one of the participating members that wants to submit a challenge will be chosen for the next week. You will be contacted to see if your challenge is okay for the game.
