  1. I agree with the other’s concerns. As dope as that house may be, I don’t care enough about Psycho to drop some exorbitant amount of money because of it. Had I known the house edition was the only option from the beginning I probably wouldn’t have signed up.
  2. I luckily took all my pics before leaving home for half the week for thanksgiving travel. So here’s my submissions now! 1. Thor Ragnarok I feel like Taika Waititi improved on every level of the previous two Thor movies with this guy. The humor was spot on on, the story was great, and the new characters were all fantastic and full of a ton of personality. Unfortunately Taika went a little to overboard for Love and Thunder, so that faltered a bit, but Ragnarok remains one of the top of all the Marvel movies for me. 2. Bladerunner 2049 Both Bladerunner and the sequel are great movies, but I think I may actually prefer the sequel a little bit more. Feels more approachable from a general public standpoint. The cgi is amazing and really helped to enhance the rich world created in the original. Ryan Gosling also knocked it out of the park, creating a fantastic character with a ton of depth and development through the film. 3. Tron Legacy I just loved everything about this movie. Killer soundtrack. Killer visuals. Killer world. And to top it all off Olivia Wild. There’s all that controversy with her now suggesting she may not actually be the greatest of people…but back in my innocent youth she was perfect to me. I feel everything was an improvement from the first one. Like it’s hard to watch the original due to those graphics… I would totally want to see another sequel added on here, but I have a much better one chosen. 4. Spiderman No Way Home I love Spiderman so much, and this one just had everything I could have ever wanted. I’d say it’s between this or Into the Spiderverse for top Spiderman movies of all time for me, though they’re both so different so it’s hard to really compare. No Way Home would be nothing without all of the Spiderman movies before it, though, so even with all the heartache some of the poorer previous movies provided, I’m grateful for each and every one of them as they led to this masterpiece. 5. THE Suicide Squad This movie was leaps and bounds better than the original. That first one was a snooze, man. Just the typical DC crap. But my god to James Gunn take it and run circles around not only the first Suicide Squad, but every other dang live action DC movie that’s come out ever. Just like Ragnarok the humor was great, action was great, ew characters great, the big bad was so over the top and whacky. Just everything was amazing. Plus it led to the Peacemaker show which was equally amazing. Just hand over the reigns to all DC live action stuff to Gunn, because they need a major pick-me-up. Now for the sequel I’ve always wanted. Drum roll please… KUNG POW!!! I mean come on. There was a dang trailer for it in the original movie! I needs it. This movie is everything to me and if any of you reading this haven’t seen it you need to drop everything and watch it (unless you don’t like perfection). I don’t think any other B movie has ever, or will ever stand up against it.
  3. Here’s some more weapons for ya. 1. Chainsaw (boring I know) 2. Pickaxe (also boring yeah yeah) 3. Gnome Stick! 4. Broom! 5. Take your pick: shovel, spoons/forks/knives, bowling ball Now what are my favorites?…Great question. I swear when you have the option of picking anything suddenly your brain blanks and you have no options. Favorite hero weapon is maybe Indiana Jones’ whip. Always loved him growing up and daydreamed about having one of my own. For villains I think I’ve gotta go for either Darth Maul’s lightsaber, or Count Dooku’s lightsaber. The double blade of Maul’s was just epic back in the day, and still remains dope, but the curve in Dooku’s handle scratched some itch in me for being different than every other lightsaber. These favorites said, I’ll probably end up thinking of some other weapon I like more just randomly, because I swear I just can’t think of any right now.
  4. Well, I can’t participate completely since I only actually own one, but maybe the one I do have is so downright amazing it can count for all 5? Maybe? Let’s start with the first I ever got. I believe there was one Christmas where my parents got me a cassette player and a few of my favorite movie soundtracks to go with it. I believe those were from Anastasia, Star Wars Ep 1, and Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone. There might’ve been some others but my brain sucks and can’t remember back to when I was like 5 years old or whatever. Fast forward back to now and while I do love movie soundtracks, I don’t buy any music. Have debated collecting mondo vinyls since I collect their posters, but I don’t even have a vinyl player so it’s seemed pointless. Maybe someday. But that brings me to what I DO have, and that is… POKEMON THE FIRST MOVIE!!! Pokémon played a HUGE part in my childhood, and that first movie was everything a kid could have dreamed of. Also might’ve been the first movie to make me cry like a baby. Pikachu just loved Ash so much 😭. Anyway, I listened to this soundtrack a lot back in the day. Parents told me to go through our junk closet when they moved and I found this laying in there and grabbed it. Honestly a miracle it hadn’t been lost for good. Unfortunately I did manage to lose the dope Mew card I got from seeing the movie in theaters though. Hopefully that one soundtrack is worth a full point, if not I’ll take .2 points 😉!
  5. Love me some good colors! Particularly bright, neon colors, and especially a good pink. We need more pink steelbooks. Anyway, here’s what I’ve got to offer on this front. Red - John Carter Orange - Dune Yellow - Carrie Green - Forbidden Planet Blue - Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters Purple - The Addams Family Pink - King Fu Hustle So how do I sort? Well currently I don’t. My collection is a mess since I moved. Currently working on building my own shelving, so when that’s done I’ll finally get to sort and display everything. Whenever that point comes around (god knows when that’ll be with my lazy bum) I’ll be sorting by type (premium, steel, amaray), then genre within that, and then alphabetically within that. Get some sortception going on.
  6. Well horror is probably my favorite genre right along scifi, so this is right up my alley. Been on a nothing but horror binge this entire month (minus some Fixer Upper for a wholesome touch between). A couple movies stand out for having creeped me out back in the day. Looking back I have no idea how I was such a wuss because who would even call those horror? First was the Mummy (Brendan Frasier one). These have since become some of my favorite movies, but back then I refused to watch them. Next is the trailer for the Lord of the Rings, not even the actual movie, just the trailer. God knows why that freaked me out. Luckily my parents got me a Legolas action figure which made me brave enough to go see the movie, and once again, now one of my favorite movies. For more actual horror movies that freaked me out back in the day, Signs and Godsend. Rewatched both this year though and neither are even remotely scary to me. I guess I’ve majorly desensitized myself by gorging on the genre so greedily over the years. So now onto my picks. Seems like there’s lots of debate on what is and isn’t horror, so I’m just throwing in an excessive amount so there’s no questioning whether I qualify or not! 1. Ghost Ship - Classic from my childhood. The beginning sequence with the wire slicing through hundreds of people will be forever seared into my brain. Top tier gore there. 2. Slither - James Gunn at his finest. Plus Nathan Fillion in the lead, and who doesn’t like that man? 3. Silent Hill - Never played the game so I can’t compare it to the movie, but I loved this as a kid. Fantastic atmosphere and some awesome creature designs. 4. Thirteen Ghosts - Just like Nathan Fillion, who doesn’t want more Matthew Lillard in their lives? Also some dope ghost designs. 5. The Orphanage - One of my first forays into foreign horror movies, and with Guillermo deal Toro’s stamp of approval to boot. Definitely check it out. 6. Tucker and Dale vs Evil - Who doesn’t love a good horror comedy? Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine make a great duo of clueless rednecks while kids are getting killed off around them. Freakin hilarious and gruesome. 7. Terrifier - Just like Ghost Ship this movie takes the cake for scenes seared into my memory. If you know you know, and if you don’t…well you probably don’t want to. All around kind of a meh movie, but the gore was in point. Excited to see the second whenever that ships out to me. 8. Evil Dead 2 - Top tier B movie goodness. One of my favorite movies of all time, horror or no. Bruce Campbell at his finest. The world needs more Ash. 9. Cabin in the Woods - Refreshing parody on the horror genre. The ending with all the monsters getting loose stands among the top of my movie moments. My only wish for this movie were to be that they chose one of the other monsters. Redneck zombies don’t quite do it for me. Im starting to regret choosing so many movies… 10. Midsommar - Figure this one might be debatable. I feel as though it falls into the psychological horror category. There’s a major feeling of dread that builds and builds as the movie goes on, and Florence Pugh in the opening scene of the movie is the most heartbreaking thing I’ve ever seen before. Also, this collectors edition from A24 is amazing and I’m super happy I bought it. 11. It Chapters 1 and 2 - Creepy Clown thing 12. Pans Labyrinth - Another skirting the line, but I’d call this fantasy horror. Guillermo del Toro is great at his world building, and this is no exception. The creature designs are amazing, and the atmosphere is really immersing. 13. A Quiet Place - Who knew Jim from the Office had it in him. This movie came out of nowhere to blow me away. Who knew that the tiniest of sounds could bring me as the viewer so much anxiety. And the whole climax, god I was stressed. 14. The Ring - 7 daysssssss. Classic from the middle school days that gave me a good chill. Ok that’s it’s. Thanks for putting up with me excess. Oh wait, here’s Alien, the EPITOME of horror! To not allow it in a horror competition is a damn shame because I can’t think of horror without thinking of Alien.
  7. Favorite challenge yet! (No offense to the others) So my name is definitely totally NOT my actual name… That said the 429 isn’t a random number and actually does have a bit of a story. Back in high school my fellow trombonists decided I spoke in too much of a monotone and without emotion (totally not true). One night one of them was watching Star Wars and took note of Vader referring to a storm trooper as TK429 (don’t know if it’s actually a number said in the movies or if he made them up). Everyone found the name hilarious and it somewhat stuck as my high school nickname. Honestly ain’t mad about it though, kinda dope! So without further ado, here we go. (Side note, counting the periods the way I read this out loud as “dot”) R - Raiders if the Lost Ark Y - You’re Next A - Alita: Battle Angle N - Nausica and the Valley of the Wind . - Deadpool 2 M - Morbius I - It combo pack L - Lost Boys L - The Lord of the Rings E - Evil Dead 2 R - Ready Player One . - Dracula 4 - Forbidden Planet 2 - Tron Legacy 9 - Nightmare in Elm Street Now, shortly after setting this as my username when I started joining group buys and participating more I instantly regretted my name choice. So lame. Were I to get the chance to change it I’d go with what I use as my Gamertag, Pla1dMonkey. Origin of that is about as complex as the names of Spiderman, Batman, Superman, Antman, or any other (insert word) Man/Woman. Middle School me like plaid shorts, and monkeys were/are my favorite animal, so why shouldn’t I combine them? And now since I dig the challenge so much I decided to do it with this name too, forcing myself not to use any duplicates. P - Pig L - The Limey A - Akira 1 - The One (the only choice for this guy) D - Dune M - The Mummy Trilogy O - The Orphanage N - Nobody K - Kung Fu Hustle E - Edge of Tomorrow Y - Your Name And that’s that. Thanks for coming to my Ted Talk.
  8. @extantsrevenge Thanks for the tag. Gave me the kick in the butt needed to stop being lazy about this. Unlike you seasoned veterans having to dig deep into the recesses of your mind, I am still a newbie, so this challenge is actually pretty easy for me. But I suppose some back story first. I was always in love with steelbooks, but I never really collected them seriously. Just bought whatever my favorite movies were whenever I happened across them in Best Buy. I think my wallet misses those days. The addiction started at the release of Spiderman No Way Home. You see, I’d managed to get Homecoming and Far From Home on steelbook and wanted to do the same for No Way Home. Little did I know it sold out before even making it to stores. Devastated I found my way to the steelbook subreddit. Luckily I managed to catch some random quick restock, but the damage was done. I was suddenly in the know of every single release ever, premiums and all. As you can maybe guess, No Way Home is the first premium that brought me to Media Psychos. Heard of this cool place that procures these puppies for you. Debated joining the group buy, but decided it was so expensive, and since I got my random pickup anyway it didn’t seem necessary to me…but then I saw the live shot and hoooo boy I regretted that decision. I had no idea they printed those slips so fancy, and I’m a sucker for fancy prints. After that I came across Thor Ragnarok on eBay for a seemingly reasonable price. Fought myself on it for a bit, but after watching some YouTube unboxing on it finally said screw it and hit buy. And there was my start. First purchase done. I’d opened the floodgates and the hesitance to purchase more was gone. At some point in this whole story I’d joined the Reddit r/steelbook discord channel. In there they had their own selling/trading thing going on and it was there I picked up the Blade Runner 2049 kimchi edition as my second. While Ragnarok was the first purchase, BR was the first I’d actually gotten in hands (Ragnarok took like two months to get to me). I couldn’t stop running my fingers over the Fullslip. The textures were just so nice! My first two group buys with Media Psychos weren’t far behind those two purchases. After missing No Way Home I sure as heck wasn’t gunna miss others I wanted. I joined up on the Weet Uncharted and Avengers Age of Ultron gbs. Uncharted showed up not too long after. Ultron took a while to show up, and while I definitely got a handful of others in that period I’m keeping it in my first 5. Then there was the 4th of July sale @Masterblaster so generously put together. Managed to grab the Plain Archive Train to Busan from there to end my first 5 editions! I kinda lucked out that two of those happened to be different retailers because I swear half my collection is all Weet. Also side note, after lots of patience I managed to pick up both full slip options for No Way Home for good prices, so I’m no longer so bummed about missing them.
  9. Haha I’m the same way. Part of me really wants them, but these people seemingly haven’t had any premiums come out before, so they very well may be just some plainly printed box sold for way too much money.
  10. Haha I was wondering if it needed to be on the front. See I kind of think of the entirety of a steelbook case as the main design, unlike a normal Blu-ray where the back is all boring text and such. That said, here’s a couple replacement options (since M Bison is also in the back). Replacement 1. Flying Police Cars -Fifth Element This is one of my favorite movies, and with some dope art from Dan Mumford to boot. Replacement 2. Weird Train Dragon Thingy - Summer Wars Can this avatar dude actually be ridden inside? I don’t know, you’d think if it’s a train then maybe. Might be weird having people crawling all up inside of you, but I’m not here to judge. Also this may be pushing it, but… Genies Lamp (and camels) - Aladdin Don’t actually need a third replacement, but I took a picture of it so here you go. I mean Genie was stuck in this thing moving from place to place for centuries right? Surely that counts then. hopefully these replacements satisfy 😜
  11. Was going through my collection and kept seeing things other people had posted. Didn’t wanna just beat a dead horse (such a cruel saying btw), so challenged myself to find more unique ones. And by challenged I mean took an extra 5 minutes to sift through other piles. 1. Car - Evil Dead 1 & 2 combo I’m car illiterate so don’t know what type it is, but here’s a car. Cars are boring and typical for this challenge, but heck, this is Ash we’re talking about. 2. Ectomobile - Ghostbusters: Afterlife Still a car, but at least this one is a more unique and exciting one! 3. Post Apocalyptic Bicycle - Turbo Kid This isn’t your everyday bicycle here, this is a post apocalyptic bicycle! It’s just like yours and my bicycle, but ✨ apocalyptic ✨ 4. Horse - Street Fighter Honestly this is just a hilarious picture. M. Bison pulling a Napoleon. Classic. 5. ??? - Heavy Metal Gettin weird with this guy. Don’t even know what it’s supposed to be. Some alien Pterodactyl bird lookin thing? Whatever it is she’s riding it, and therefore it fits the bill. Also got the weird Smiley face ship. This one’s giving us a good ole double doozy of transportation. If one of those two cars doesn’t count I’ve also got both camels and a weird Train Dragon thing with eyes as backups.
  12. Thank you thank you. I mean really they make it easy to have good taste since those games are just so dang good! And yeah, I only just learned how widespread the damage issue apparently was. And they’re refusing to fix it for people too. The box it came in wasn’t that great of quality anyway so it’s not a huge loss, but still would’ve been nice to have. Haha you and my best friend both. Every time he comes over and sees it he remarks about how jealous he is. And yes it absolutely looks amazing on my shelf.
