Challenge #36 1) First up is Scarface. I was ecstatic when this was announced. I still remember waiting on the Mantalab release that sadly never happened and I held off on buying the standard edition in hopes that another one would be released 2) Next is Lord of War. Probably my favorite Nic Cage movie. I still have the old 2006 Blu-ray that had a woman bizarrely explaining how menus worked on Blu-ray...in the menu as if DVD had never existed. I still put it on sometimes for a good laugh. I thought the glasses slip was a little cheesy at first but it won me over after seeing it in person. 3) Lastly, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. This steelbook is just gorgeous. I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it. I was skeptical going into this movie due to Chadwick Boseman's passing but it surprised me and became one of the most fun Marvel movies I've watched in a while.

Media Psychos Fantasy Award
HeightOfFolly replied to extantsrevenge's topic in Cinematic History Awards
Here is my submission for this awesome award I had to really think about what truly makes a movie fall into the category of fantasy. I think these all fit in some way or another.- 65 replies

Looks like I've missed some good challenges since the start of this year. I was in a car crash in January which resulted in my car being totaled. I haven't really been on here much since then but I'm excited to start doing these again. Thanks to @Mrdugan for this week's challenge: Women in Film - Alien (Filmarena): Ellen Ripley is arguably one of the best characters in cinema. What would I even be doing if I didn't include her in this challenge? - Kill Bill (Yes, I consider both of them to make up one film): Beatrix Kiddo is just a badass. Plain and simple. - Okja (Criterion 4K): A great film with several strong, female characters. - Atomic Blonde (Kimchidvd): One of my favorite Charlize Theron roles. I'm always impressed by the choreography in this. - Birds of Prey (Manta Lab): Sadly, the only one of my bunch to be directed by a woman. This was a very fun movie which surprised me given DC's output in recent years. My favorite female character is Beatrix Kiddo from Kill Bill. I like that there's more to her than just being a killing machine. Her story is quite the journey.

Challenge #11: Sequels - Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. This is the one that I watched the most on TV growing up. The sacrifice scenes aren't something I'll ever forget. - Rogue One. If only Disney could've brought this level of filmmaking to their other movies, the world would be a better place. This is how you respect previous movies in the franchise while adding to the story. - Hellboy 2: The Golden Army. I think the antagonist in this one is much more interesting than in the first one. The action and cinematography are also superior IMO. - The Mummy Returns. I think that knowing the characters already helps this one flow better. The Scorpion King is also a cool villain despite his CG - Underworld Evolution. Learning more of the history between the lycans and the werewolves was interesting. Also, 15-year-old-me remembers that steamy scene quite fondly. 😁 An underappreciated movie which I've always loved is Small Soldiers. I think a sequel showing the guerrillas in Central America or wherever who end up with the toys would've been a lot of fun.

Challenge #14: The Animals Here are my 5 exhibits for this challenge: - Pig from Nova Media - The Lion King Diamond Edition steelbook - Jaws from Cinemuseum - Lawrence of Arabia steelbook - Space Jam 4K steelbook Cats are my favorite animal because I have their same energy level. I like to curl up and take naps but start getting energy later in the evening.

Challenge #12 First up is Christopher Nolan. Say what you will about his dialogue mixing but the man knows how to make an entertaining film. I'm gonna have to pick Inception as my favorite. Next up is Spielberg. It's tough to pick one over the others due to the sheer amount of gems he's made over the years. I'm picking the first Jurassic Park. That kitchen scene is about as perfect as it gets. Lastly, the Wachowskis. I know that the Matrix sequels get a lot of hate and their more recent stuff hasn't been as popular but I've always loved the Matrix trilogy and think Cloud Atlas is a masterpiece.

Challenge #9 #1: LOTR Trilogy with the Complete Recordings. It felt like a crime to only include one of them so here's the entire trilogy. #2: The Matrix Titans of Cult edition with the Varese Sarabande 2-disc SACD soundtrack #3: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly 4K from Kino Lorber. The soundtrack is the 3-disc set from Quartet Records. #4: The Star Wars Complete Saga DVD set which includes the 2006 discs with the LaserDisc transfers. The soundtrack is the 1993 release and next to it is the radio drama. #5: Pirates of the Caribbean Blu-ray chest set and Soundtrack Treasures Collection set

Challenge #7 - Saw - Van Helsing - Get Out (Everything Blu) - The Mummy - Underworld (I know I have the whole collection here but I'm counting it as one entry. It's just a nice box.) The first movie that really creeped me out was The Shining. The reason it is not in this picture is because I signed up for the Cinemuseum edition a few years back when I was still at my old address. Because Cinemuseum takes forever to ship their stuff, I was living in a new place by the time it came out. Normally, that wouldn't have been a problem but there was no shipping info sent to me and my old apartment didn't bother telling me that there was a package. By the time I realized what had happened, the package was long gone. It is now THE grail for me and I'm constantly on the lookout for a reasonably-priced copy. Of course it's like the most expensive edition ever for some reason.

My username comes from the John Carter books by Edgar Rice Burroughs. He uses the phrase "the height of folly" a lot which I found amusing. Hellboy E.T. This was a good challenge. It was hard to pick only 5 but here they are. #1 My European release is Film Arena's Braveheart. I remember when my mom rented this on VHS from Blockbuster. I was a wee lad at the time and so she didn't let me watch it but I managed to catch a few glimpses. #2 One of my Asian releases is Kimchidvd's Atomic Blonde. I love that they used a scene from the movie for the lenti's cover. #3 Up next is Ghost in the Shell (2017) from Blufans. I know a lot of people didn't like this movie but I still enjoyed it, even as a longtime GiTS fan. I think the geisha cover was super creative although I wish there was a way to keep it open more easily. #4 This here is the Gladiator O.C. from HDzeta. There was an earlier premium of this one that I missed so I made sure to jump on this edition. #5 Lastly, for my non-steelbook release, I picked UHD Club's Dark Knight trilogy. I'm a huge Batman fan and I adore Nolan's take on the character. I willingly passed on HDzeta's motherbox because it seemed like such a massive set that it wouldn't fit in my space at the time. When I saw this edition, I decided that life's too short and went for it. I especially love TDK's cover.

The Mummy Trilogy (UHD CLUB #20) (4K Only Hardbox Digipak) [China]
HeightOfFolly replied to ukade2327's topic in UHD CLUB
I like those beauty shots. I was able to resist double-dipping for the Everything Blu editions but I couldn't walk away from this one.
