#1 - Gone Girl Full Slip Steelbook (Blufans, China)

Hands down my favourite film of all time! Sought after this rare full slip edition for many years, and finally owning one just took me to cloud 9!🤩

 

 

 

#2 - Her Lenticular Steelbook (Kimchidvd, Korea)

One that's very special to me cos this one opened the door to my journey of collecting premiums!

 

 

 

#3 - TENET Gold Label Steelbook One Click (Hdzeta, China)

Don't try to understand it. Feel it.😎 Fantastic Nolan film. A must-have for me!

 

 

 

#4 - Inside Llewyn Davis Slipbox (The Blu Collection, Korea)

My non-steelbook selection for the challenge. I really dig the design and contents. The slipbox has a nice craft paper texture, and it also comes with a guitar pick!

The only thing that irks me is one typo at the back tho.😵 Can you spot that?

European release for the challenge. This Nolan film is simply awe-inspiring!🤯

My five favorite premium editions.

 

1) The Prestige (UHD Club)

 

I was able to purchase this edition thanks to @Masterblaster, and I will never thank him enough for how he recommended me to purchase it. It's here as a representative of that magnificent and monumental UHD Club DP series, but also because it's an impressive edition, where every last little detail was taken care of; both in the configuration of the edition, as in the content, the aesthetics, even in the goodies. Everything is pure gold in it.

 

 

2) The Master (Plain Archive)

 

It was one of the first premium editions that I bought, and for me it's pure elegance. The perfect union between designing something linked to the film and what it expresses, and, at the same time, making it really beautiful, that you want to take it in your hands and contemplate it.

It's a pity not to be able to add more editions of Plain Archive to the challenge, because looking at them calmly now, I can only say that they are truly beautiful. For several years they did a magnificent job, with a good taste well above what is usual in other retailers, being exquisite, select, premium; and putting a love in their editions that -reviewing now my editions for this challenge- makes me think that today editions are made to  have more goodies, be more voluminous, but not so careful.

 

 

3) The eternal sunshine of the spotless mind ( KimchiDVD)

 

Even before discovering Plain Archive, like other Psychos, I discovered the exclusive editions of Kimchidvd. This one is a great example, and one of the editions to which I have more love. The design is pecular, and the configuration of the edition is very common, but it's made with devotion to the film, making that become a jewel in the hands.

 

 

By the way, I want to put the back cover here, as simple as it's tasteful.

In Spain this film was horribly titled "Forget about me", adding on the cover the horrendous phrase "What would you give to get a bad roll out of your head", expressed using a level of vulgar Spanish expression far from the charm of the film.
Finding something like that was a shock, and a wonder.

 

 

4) Apocalypse Now (Universal)

 

When it was released, premium editions weren't as popular as they are now, and the majors hadn't tried to imitate them yet. But this time, Universal -probably without intending to go that far- made a true premium edition, absolutely magnificent. With a hard and appropriate full slip, a nice digipack, and several very interesting goodies; also including essential additional content for any fan of the film.

 

 

I have personally always considered this collector's edition somewhat undervalued in collectors' memories. But it has everything it has to have, and it's great to be able to hold it in hands.

 

5) Heaven's Gate (La Aventura)

 

In my opinion, the best edition of this great film by Michael Cimino, limited and numbered, with a full slip and a nice digipack, booklet and certificate of authenticity, to which is added a great collection of additional content.

 

 

 

PS: And although I'm late for Challenge #1, already "out of competition", and just to share:

I love the lenticulars that are linked to the film, which are not only trying to impress by the lenticular effect itself. For me, the pinnacle of lenticulars in film editions is that "Her," making it no longer possible to do something more appropriate, and at the same time beautiful.
The one on "The Prestige" is very well done, it's impressive, and I think the UHD Club had a great vision in coming up with this for the lenticular. It's perfect!
The lenticular of "A Ghost Story" is a lenticular without transition, not like the previous two, but it is so well made, aesthetically it's so beautiful, and it is so linked to the film, that it seems to me a great representative of the lenticular without transition designed thinking about the movie.

J’ai commencé ma collection il y a environ un an mais je commence néanmoins à avoir une petite collection symphonique. 
1/ Digibook Mantalab Godzilla vs Kong. 

2/ Captain America « The Winter Soldier » Novamedia lenticulaire. 

3/ Thor « Ragnarok » Weetcollection lenticulaire. 
4/ Oc Batman vs Superman HdZeta 😍

5/ Petite répétition pour le dernier (encore un Mantalab) mais je n’ai plus d’autre éditeurs différents ( j’espère que vous serez indulgent 😁). The Prestige Mantalab lenticulaire 😍.

Yall really making challenge #2 difficult for a semi-newcomer lol. I really had to scrape through my collection so as not to double-dip on retailers for this challenge. I'm not as diversified as some of you (yet). So, while there are definitely some of my all-time favorites on this list, maybe one or two are "favorites" within the confines of the rules 😁

 

So, in no particular order, my top 5 are:

 

The Rock (Blufans giftset)

One of my most favorite Sean Connery films, and the sole reason I wanted to visit San Francisco as a kid. This film gives the Alcatraz tour new meaning. As I'm still searching for the steelbook, this is the best edition I own (thanks to John's End of the Year sale last year).

 

Jaws (UHD Club)

Recently acquired and my all-time favorite shark creature feature. This edition is one of my most premium-feeling editions, and everything about it is a glowing tribute to my favorite shark.

 

 

Goonies (Cinemuseum Fullslip)

This film will always be a childhood favorite, as I watched it at least once every weekend for years growing up. This specific edition is also the edition that got me to join MP. The significance of its inclusion here is a given.

 

Spider-Man 3 (WeeT Collection)

 

The Raimi Spiderman trilogy is my favorite, and the best of the Spidey movies IMHO. Of the three fullslips, the third is the best for me. I love the contrast of the embossing and the Black Spidey suit on the cover. Just does it for me.

 

Taken (Novamedia)

What can I say, except I'm a sucker for Liam Neeson. This is one of his better films, and this edition has a nice depth lenticular that I also appreciate.

However, I can't help but use, at least in two cases, the same editions already presented by Eli and other members

(to compensate, I gave my best to give extra care in creating the photos).

 

It's really hard to pick particular favorites - these include the HDZeta Dark Knight Trilogy and many, many more.

But I've picked a few specials that are standout editions of my collection in one way or another.
