Multi Retailer The Departed (4K UHD Steelbook) [USA]

Because he was notoriously butthurt about the rat at the end of "The Departed" and worked that into a whole monologue at the climax of "Clerks III". Come on, man, it's a movie forum. You're not supposed to ask about people's obscure references. -
Multi Retailer The Departed (4K UHD Steelbook) [USA]

The film is a masterpiece, obviously, but I'm not sure about going for the full 4K upgrade unless there was some sort of premium release. It is Warner Bros., but they've never done premium with "The Departed". I'll keep on the lookout. This steelbook is still really cool. I particularly like the back cover art giving the middle finger to Kevin Smith. -
Oh yeah, forgot about the challenges. Anyway... Best of 2023! "EEAO" - Nova SL/OC & Manta DL "The Shawshank Redemptiom" - UHD Club "Titanic" - Creator Era That's really all the premiums I got last year. As for the ones that got away... "The House of Hummingbird" - Nova, Didn't quite love the movie enough to shell out. "The Lord of the Rings Trilogy" - HDZeta, TOO EXPENSIVE!!!! "The Green Mile" - UHD Club, I already got the Blufans edition... Off of eBay, no less! Waah!

I haven't gotten anything from Film Vault yet, but they look like really high-quality sets. Certainly, the artwork is gorgeous. I can't wait to see this in action. Definitely no regrets on my UHD Club purchase for "Shawshank"... but, erm, I probably would have been content with saving some money on this. We'll see when I got the darn thing!

On sleeping on it, I further enjoy the exchange of the broad color palettes between the slips and the steels, particularly with the DL. It's a sort of cosmic and pulpy surrealism that I think suits the movie quite well. The problem with these "EEAO" premiums has frankly been the lack of official art available. Manta has done something genuinely, hugely different. It may not be as picturesque as, say, the Nova releases, but there's a lot of interesting novelty and creativity in it. I look forward to putting some kind of custom set together, but, yes, I can totally see the disappointment in those who missed out on the Nova.

I was also thrown off by the cover art for the longest time. It's crude, but in a surreal and colorful way that I think really fits the tone of the movie. The transparent sleeve makes all the difference! I cannot wait to see the slips and buy a copy... But I do kind of wish I got on at least one of the Nova editions. That steelbook is so good, and the OC box is so fabulous that I may have to go custom with my set, providing the scalpers aren't too harsh. We'll see...
