CHALLENGE #5

This week was so full of work, that I could not make it until this evening.

I had it in mind all the time, but nevertheless many thanks for the nice reminder @extantsrevenge

So let's go back... way back in the time...

My odyssey to Premium Editions began when I happened to stumble upon the Blufans OC box set of "STAR WARS - The Force Awakens" on a German bluray information site.

My first thought: "What kind of   p i r a t e   c o p y  -  c r a p   is this ?"

However, as a Star Wars fan, my curiosity was piqued as I admitted that it would be a VERY nice thing to be able to call a big box set of this movie my own.

No sooner said than done, I began a deep search on the internet - and was proven wrong - what I found was not a piece of junk, but rather a Rolls Royce!

(However, it took some time until I could add the Star Wars box set to my collection).

Also - Blufans remains my favorite when it comes to the absolute quality of Steelbooks; even though WeEt produces some really fancy stuff, at least when you regard the technical aspect (until today) they do not exhibit the absolute precision craftsmanship that characterizes Blufans Steels - the degree of perfection of the gloss coating is just one example.

But as we have to show our first premium collectibles we got - I have to exclude Blufans here

(as well as KimchiDVD, Nova Media or UHD Club) - because the first pieces were the following...

So let's start.

1.

FIRST MAN

MANTA LAB

This is the very first Premium Steelbook I purchased (that time directly from their site).

Both because of the artistic design and the glorious workmanship of this steelbook i fell - like once King Kong - forever hopelessly prey to the beauty of these treasures!

1410946398_01FirstManMANTALAB.thumb.png.884c11e056ce23abef42ba83dbb7e90f.png

2.

PROMETHEUS

Filmarena

Once the hunger was awakened, the appetite for more grew steadily.

After a short time, I had found out which retailers were leading the way for these products - and that directed me to a Company, that,  - to my astonishment -

unlike most of the others, was not located in Asia but in Europe ...

1325748851_02PrometheusFILMARENA.thumb.png.50af6f80000cf95c4bafdc920be9b60c.png

Nevertheless, the next precious that I was able to add to my collection started a passion for this retailer's products that continues to this day...

(Therefore I REALLY can't wait to hold the LOTR Gold Label-Trilogy in my hands

... and you can believe it, my fellow members - no child waits more eagerly for Santa than I do for this set !)

3.

TERMINATOR GENISYS

HDZeta

1656847060_03TerminatorGenesysHDZETA.thumb.png.949973e0b7ae904e58e8f4dcb083172a.png

4.

SICARIO

Plain Archive

Before I finally entered the sacred halls of MP I bought this Steelbook - my first but not last one of this Retailer - and what an amazing eye-opener this is!

At this point I would like to express a relief:

The fears, Plain Archive might stop the production of exclusive Steelbooks in favor of other film-related products have fortunately not come true.

On the contrary - the retailer has rather significantly increased its release frequency again !

5.

And then it finally happened!

Following the motto, better late than never, I finally came across Media Psychos - for sure the best thing that can happen to any serious collector,

and this was my first finalized Group Buy...

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 1 & 2

WeET Exclusive

:)

Great challenge buddy

Oh man this is nostalgic

1st ever

Forest Gump blufans OAB

I simply loved this movie, and wanted to get it for my dad's birthday

I remember we watched it together and holds special memories for both of us

I got it from ebay, at a decent price, though remember at the time I was gutted as it was the non soundtrack version

2nd

La la land Manta FS

Again, loved this film

Had no idea what premiums were at the time, but just searched ebay for la la land special edition

This is what came up, and I quite liked the beauty of it

I then realised there is another lenti edition, and a box edition

That was my first education of different editions

3rd & 4th

Red Sparrow & Untouchables CM

Again, pure fluke. Not much knowledge of premiums at the time

Was looking for a limited edition Red Sparrow release,  and a seller had both these on sale at the time

5th

First Man Manta OC

This was my first ever buy from MP

I had no idea what MP was , and came across both High Def Ni*nja and MP at the same time

I actually thought these were both scam sights

But then I got talking with @Scary Hair and @ksosk

And hand on heart, it  honestly felt like family and they convinced me to join and try the GB

They were so warm and welcoming

The rest they say is history

I became a Psycho and premium animal!

Re-post @extantsrevenge

With pics

So my fellow psychos

Forest Gump OAB , my first ever premium purchase, hence holds a special place in my heart

Manta FS was the 2nd premium I brought

Beautiful

Red Sparrow and Untouchables CM were next

Finally my first ever GB at MP

First Man OC Manta (I love what Manta do with their editions)

No messing around with WWA, only WEA and very original and cool designs and concepts, like this fabric OC

First of many GBs at MP (as it would turn out) 😜

For this 5th challenge, let me introduce you my 5 first premiums (including the first I bought thanks to MP).

1 - Manta Lab OC of ZSJL

I am a very big fan of DC and it was an obligation for me to have at least this one. I bought it on eBay to a guy from Germany, Ronnie, who sold me a lot of other premiums. He is not making huge profits and is reliable (contrary to some others). I also bought him the HDZeta of this movie and he will deliver me the wonderful Mother Boxes when he receive them in a few days.

2 - HDZeta Man of Steel

It is my first HDZeta edition and the one which made me fell in love HDZeta. I am crazy of lenticulars so HDZeta is just perfect for me. I bought it on eBay to a guy from England at a correct price (I don’t remember how much).

In DC universe, Superman is my favorite hero ever.

3 - Back to the Future Filmarena OC

It is not one of the 5th I bought at the beginning but it is my first Filmarena. And what an edition. It is absolutely amazing!!! I am in love with it. I bought it on eBay to the same German guy as ZSJL Mantalab.

4 - Ant-Man Weet OC

My first Weet and the first purchase to Ronnie on eBay. And I think my 5th premium edition purchased. I live weet a lot and I think they are the best to make gorgeous Marvel editions. Thanks to this one, it was the beginning of a beautiful and long live story with Weet

5 - Uncharted Weet OC

It is not the first product I ordered thanks to you, guys from MP (it is the EOT OC Broad Nation that I can’t wait to receive). But it is the first I received. Not my favorite edition but it was the first step with you guys.

6 - The Mummy Everything Blue

I know you asked for only 5 editions but this one is one of mu 5 favorites and the real first premium edition I bought. So I wanted to share it too. I bought them on Vinted beginning of 2022 at a correct price to 2 different retailers. I wanted to buy them directly on their site the day they sold them but after 30 seconds, they were sold out. It was the first day I heard about GB.

Now how did I start using MP… well I am French and @cypheria078 created a topic here with imports Blu-ray with French language. It was how I discovered this site. Then after a while, I started seeing things about premiums on facebooks groups and some guys told me there that I should join a GB such as MP if I wanted to avoid scalpers on eBay. And here we are.

To finish, I just want to say : LONG LIFE TO MEDIA PSYCHOS!!!

Almost late but still great, here's my Challenge 5 submission:

I started on one of the websites that shall not be named in January 2015, and two members influenced me with starting my premium escapades. One was Bluray Steel, who alot of us know as Kevin, who was/is the Blufans guru for that site. I saw all these beautiful Blufans editions and was hooked on premiums. The second guy was a member named DJ Jez, who on his page had a link to his Plain Archive collection. He had every single one, and so I was able to discover PA. My first premium purchase was The Wrestler:

spacer.png

spacer.png

spacer.png

I bought many more Plain Archive releases, but my favorite ones to this day are my Old Boy Editions. I love this movie and these are my favorite versions. I just wish I had put them in protective cases. These are permanently in my top 5 premiums and I think they still are the best editions made from PA.

spacer.png

spacer.png

spacer.png

spacer.png

I also was buying some Blufans on group buy and ebay, but I ended up selling them all as my wife couldn't understand my hobby, especially when I was keeping them sealed at the time. But one company that I found out about around that time was Everything Blu who had a few copies left of this gem, and one of my favorite comedies ever: Shaun of the Dead.

spacer.png

spacer.png

I went a few years without buying any premiums as I concentrated on 4k releases only. The first release that got me back in the premium game was this release of 2001 from Titans of Cult, which was scratched up in my move from California to Missouri in May.

spacer.png

spacer.png

I joined Media Psychos in January 2021 and started buying premiums again. I couldn't pull the trigger on many a Group Buy offered, that I now regret( particularly the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings 4k Silver Labels/WeET Spider-Man trilogy). But being on this site helped convince me to start opening what I did have. I believe, and I could be wrong, but my first GB purchase on this site was WeET Thor Ragnarok.

Media Psychos  Challenge #5

Like most older members , my transition to Premium Editions came from collecting all different formats and incarnations from the days of V.H.S and DVD to BR  and now 4K UHD ....I completely skipped Laserdisc ... it has been a 32 year habit that doesn't seem to be subsiding ... I have always had the fascination of collecting the special editions of my favourite films and still have a few DVD editions stored away ... but we're not here to dwell on those are we ... its for the shiny discs in tins wrapped up nicely in cardboard Fullslips ,Lenticulars and Hardboxes....and how we started down that road...

and that was Steelbooks ......... I had already gotten several DVD steelbooks but back then they were few and far between and most of those were purchased from Play.com   and were all region one coded.....blah blah blah then along comes Bluray .... twice the definition of DVD ....... Play.com then released Iron Man on Bluray Steelbook and that was it ...........all movie purchases after that were Steelbook where available ....whilst searching the net one search led to another and I discovered a few sites that mentioned premium editions of movies that I had previously never heard of .. mostly from aAsian retailers but these were extra special Steelbooks in Slips with extra goodies ..thus I learnt about Blufans ,Novamedia,Kimchi DVD Filmarena .....

after browsing through eBay I came across and bought my first Premium Edition :-

  • 1. Filmarena FAC #10 Fullslip Commando Directors Cut

614B2DC3-2123-4C30-AD13-73966E0A73F1.thumb.jpeg.1e17c43128fda1784f8a723cdcfa3720.jpeg

Cost me £40 with free shipping ...

I was hooked .........

over the next few months spent a few bob buying other FAC editions

A new company was starting up .. MantLab out of Hong Kong.....Interesting I thought but how do I get hold of these ....

searching the web I discovered a couple of forums that hosted Limited Groupbuys ....Whats that then I thought....Research ...

but these were mostly by invitation or referral so ..... more searching......I then discovered Media Psychos V1.0 as it was then ... a very basic open forum run by Collectors for Collectors .. this looks cool I thought and signed up as a member ...

Lucky for me they were hosting a Group buy for Mantalab Man of Steel ...

  • 2.First MP GB purchase .... Mantalab Exclusive #01 Man of Steel Lenticular Edition

First Premium from MP...

33FE0450-D227-4538-9F5E-A3C53CD406D6.thumb.jpeg.f37c9fd028cfac3eaba24f3bec0efef3.jpeg

Thus my relationship with  MP was born ....

  • 3.First MP One Click ........Nova Media  NE #10 Terminator 2

I didn't quite understand the novelty or point of a One Click edition until I saw this .... that Lenticular transition was amazing .. this is the moment I became a real Lenticular Fan.. I also liked the foil finish of the fullslip  .

  • 4. First HdZeta Silver Label Edition The Accountant

0FACCFC2-C95D-4751-BCAF-8A5107934D49.thumb.jpeg.1052111c793e751a3fad096d0ce3fe9a.jpeg

another Lenticular Edition ...and very nice too ...The depth of the Lenti is amazing and still one of my faves

  • 5.First UHD Club Edition Wonder Woman Wooden Box

16D0E004-BBEA-40E2-BF25-AE600832F6E9.thumb.jpeg.3be66af4cb1e796f250cb0404e3c2122.jpeg

As soon as this was announced I knew I had to have it whatever the Cost ...This still Remains My #1  Premium edition and lives its life hidden away from sunlight in its shipping box , every now and then I take a peek at its beauty ...

Challenge #6!
ABCDLMNOP: Alphabetize and Summarize!

For this week's challenge, we're going to be spelling our usernames with the first letter of a movie's title! (Un)fortunately, how hard this will be is entirely based on your name. We will also be sharing the origin of our names. Here's the rules!

  • Only the first letter of the title can be used. If it starts with "The", use the word after it. If It starts with a number, use the first letter of said number. Numbers in your usename can also be covered with the the first letter of that number (for example 1 = One). Any editions will do!
  • Only one movie per letter. For those who think they can spam X-Men Origins: Wolverine, I've got some bad news for you. You can only use that movie once. But the other X-Men movies are fair game!
  • Tell us a little about yourself. How did you come up with your username?
  • Cheese It! Maybe you're short a letter or two. Well, you can always get creative! For example, let's look at my submissions:

I—I Am Legend

N—National Lampoon's Animal House

F—From Dusk till Dawn

I—The Incredibles

N—The Notebook

I—Inglourious Basterds

T—The Thing

E—Ex Machina

D—Dredd

O—Onward

O—10 Cloverfield Lane

R—The Raid

S—Star Trek Beyond

20221016_000249.thumb.jpg.c6739b347db42926befca32fe6a11068.jpg

If you're wondering why I included 10 Cloverfield Lane for O, it's because I counted it as ONE ZERO, not TEN. Is that an illogical approach? I prefer to call it inspired.

And finally, the origin of my username. I came up with it shortly after playing BioShock: Infinite (big spoilers ahead)

...

...

... because I loved the character of Elizabeth so much. It's based on the finale with the lighthouses, there now being "infinite doors" for her to travel through.

>Elizabeth: Look at that. Thousands of doors...opening all at once. My god, they're beautiful.

>Elizabeth: See? Not stars. Doors.

>Booker: Doors to...?

>Elizabeth: To everywhere. All that's left is the choosing.

>Booker: What are all these lighthouses? Why are we...who are...?

>Elizabeth: There are a million million worlds. All different and all similar. Constants and variables.

>Booker: What?

>Elizabeth: There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man, there's always a city...

>Booker: How do you know this?

>Elizabeth: I can see them through the doors. You...me, Columbia, Songbird... But sometimes, something's different...yet the same.

>Booker: Constants and variables.

>Elizabeth: Yes.

>Elizabeth: You can wait as long as you want. Eventually, you'll give him what he wants.

>Booker: How do you know all this?

>Elizabeth: I can see all the doors, and what's behind all the doors, and behind one of them, I see him.

Yep Bioshock Infinite was truly a good game and the only Bioshock I’ve ever played.

Now can any form of media count for this challenge or is it only steels?

Thanks for challenge #6 @InfiniteDoors 🙏, I hope members have fun with this one ☺️

First my picture, 14 letters a lot of work and then 2 x N (which is kinda hard). Anyway I was able to do it 🤣. When I was looking for the R I saw the movie Revenge 😲. That would have covered half my username, I should have thought about that early and expanded the rules 😁.

Now I'm sure some are wondering "How did he come up with such a strange user name?".

Back in 2000 I wanted to create my ebay account, as a huge Comic Fan it was clear to me that the user Name should be a comic character from DC. Sadly basically all names were no longer available and I certainly did not want to be Batman675876 😅.

So after some trying to check what was available I ended up using the Name Extant. It is not that that was one of my favorite characters but the DC Event Zero Hour was one of the first english comics I bought (in TPB) and I loved that Event so much and thought the name was cool (even when it is a villain).

Anyway, at that time the different ebay countries were somehow not connected and after a few month ebay changed that, so that you only needed one account for all ebay regions. The problem with that was that some usernames could no longer be used as they were already in use on ebay USA 😱. That said ebay simply merged my account with the one from my brother (most likely since we had the same address). I was upset about that, but had to create a new account, so I promised revenge on ebay 🤣 and that lead to my username @extantsrevenge that I now use for online stuff 😊.

Yep Bioshock Infinite was truly a good game and the only Bioshock I’ve ever played.

Now can any form of media count for this challenge or is it only steels?

You should play the first BioShock at least, it's a classic. And Rapture is awesome!

Amarays and DVDs count, VHS if you're truly desperate lol. Unless @extantsrevenge wants you all to suffer 🤣

As it is not end of sunday, I've tried to entry for challenge No 5....  ;)

I'm addicted to movies...like forever.

Started collecting movies in the 90ies and ended collecting BDs in 2008, so I've joined a blu-ray disc forum, met John and followed him ever since ..

of course also to join MP... ;)

It's really hard to tell, what my first premium edition was and I think it was T2 from KimchiDVD.

When I held it in hand, it was the beginning of the end and I was totally in love with these editions.

A few of my first and moste favourite ones....I know, the last one isn't from KimchiDVD but it was also amongst my first ones...

@Reagh

But he was referring to the movie titles, not our usernames... unless it also counts the other way round and for the 'one' in my username I can pick a movie that starts with the letter O.

It won't make a difference anyway, as I don't have any movie that starts with N.

@extantsrevenge

I want to change my username to SCORPIO.

Much appreciated.

Yes it works both ways, so the 1 in your usename would be covered with a 1 or an O and the 0 could be done with a Z 😁

Very innovative challenge @InfiniteDoors

So heres my contribution:

H: Hateful 8

A: American Gangster

L: Life

5: From Dusk til Dawn / Five Corners

6: Shape of Water / Six Degrees of Separation

One of my fave movies is 2001, so the HAL part is explained there. Also HAL are the initials of my full name.

56 is part of my post sorting code.
