    GB Updated.

I guess many of you have waited for us to give an Update on the Inception and Jaws GBs, sorry that it took longer. Sadly, I don’t have good news for the majority of members who joined the GB. Filmarena was not able to provide us with many copies on these two releases.

Now you may wonder how that could have happened if we were able to get all our requests for The Breakfast Club and It Chapter Two who both have lower print runs. To understand that you have to know how Filmarena operates and also how the situation has changed to previous GBs.

The main difference between Filmarena and other retailers is that they have a unique Still Collectible Number System. It is in place since the very first release and it means that everyone could/can apply to get a fixed number from them. If you’re lucky and get one you are able to order every release that qualifies (meaning your number is in the range of the release’s limitation). It is a very effective way to keep people buying your releases as it rewards loyal customers. With a number you don’t need to worry about missing out. In the past, it was also possible to decline certain editions (and that is the reason why they can give more on some releases) without risking the loss of your number. As I heard, this has changed recently for new customers getting a lower number. So you see many numbers are already taken by longtime customers. So here you have one explanation.

Another problem is that Filmarena has become very popular; especially recent releases have created much interest. You only have to look at our GBs. When we took over the USA & RoW from forenhase our FAC GB were a moderate size, some releases rather small. Filmarena was always able to allocate to us what we needed. Then two things happened: FAC#117 Alita, and we also took over Europe (with the exception of Germany, Austria and Switzerland). Taking over the European members also increased our demand, not as much as I thought it would, but it played a part. The more serious problem was the popularity of Alita, it was a knockout release and became a big boost for FA in the popularity department (as it became very hot in the aftermarket). The consequence is that much more people are trying to get “Hot” titles from FA. This for example led to so much demand on FAC#127 GitS that we got no additional copies from FA for the first time ever. We had hoped this would be a one time only occurrence, but as you can see it was not. Jaws and Inception are some of the most popular movies FA ever did, the demand exceeded all expectations - which brings us to how we ended up not getting much for these releases.

I do apologize for this. It is always sad if you have to disappoint members that had hoped to get a copy. When I look back at our previous FAC & Black Barons GBs, I can proudly say that we did really good in the past and that Filmarena always looked out for us and supplied us with what we needed for our members. Anyway, with these two GBs we are at 3 (for which we could not provide a good amount).

Filmarena did personally apologize to us for this and they felt really bad for not being able to help us.

We’re currently in talks with Filmarena, so that something like this can be avoided in the future. I hope to know more soon and we will make an announcement then. Please be aware that this will result in several changes on all future Filmarena and Black Barons GBs.

For those who missed out, both Inception and Jaws are also done by other retailers as a premium release, so you might want to check if another release is doing the trick for you. Keep in mind this is only an edition for a movie, with all the other things going on (a global pandemic, racial tensions, conflicts, or personal tragedy) you should be able to put it into perspective. I know we’re all collector’s and we have a hard time doing that, but that doesn’t stop us from trying.

I will tag all members that joined the GB here, so you are informed. The final list is posted in the OP. It is based on Premium Membership and previous participation on our Filmarena & Black Barons GBs. If you have the need to sound out your disappointment even after all I wrote, be my guest, but keep it civil. Do not attack any members who got an edition.

    Thanks

@extantsrevengeThanks for the update and actually expected. Is it disappointing, yep a little. Is it a reality, yes it certainly is. Can't complain about circumstances of how the FA system operates, its popularity and availability to a core subscribers already in place collecting over the majority of 150 releases or more... anyway onward and upwards :)
