Challenge 20:

 

Sooooo this one wasn’t that easy as I don’t have easy access to all DVDs.

 

For the first part, it’s a mix of DVDs that don’t have Blu-ray releases and Blu-rays that don’t have 4K releases.  I mean who doesn’t want Bubble Boy in 4K? 

 

 

Part two is also a mix of DVDs and Blu-rays that sadly don’t have Steelbook releases.

 

 

I use the term sadly above very loosely as there’s a hundred other things I wish had Steelbooks ahead of some of these but this is what I had to hand to meet the criteria 😂

@bungral unknown has a Blu-ray release. But Unknown (w Barry Pepper) does not have a Blu-ray I believe.  But Unknown w Liam has one…and a steelbook I think.

Week 20:
This was tough.  I did include some questionable things - concert films:

 

The top two are:

 

1.  The entire Live Aid concert is a great box set.  A Blu-Ray release would go a long way in sound quality of this.  
 

2. Ben Folds Five: Live at MySpace - Ben is one of my favorite artists and I wish he had more on Blu-Ray.

 

3. The Ten - this movie has most of the cast of MTV’s The State comedy troop.  The rest of the cast is phenomenal, including Paul Rudd, Jessica Alba, Winona Rider, Lieb Schreiber, Jason Sudeikis, Justin Theroux, Oliver Platt, Janeane Garofalo, Rob Corddry, and Bobby Cannavale.  It’s one of the lowest brow funny movies I’ve ever seen.

 

4. Nurse Betty - I love Morgan Freeman, and this role is such a good performance by him.

 

5. Next Avengers - I must have watched this 100 times with my son when he was young.

 

6.  Nothing But the Truth - I attended a Roger Ebert movie festival, and this movie played. It was a fascinating story about Freedom of the Press.  The director/writer gave a Q&A after.

 

7. Dogma - so it is on Blu-ray, but it’s out of print and nearly impossible to get.  Copies are on ebay for over a $100.  Chances are it will never be rereleased due to it being a Weinstein Company film.

I’d love special treatment of the following:

 

1. 12 Angry Men - this is a timeless classic that stands up today.  It really should have a Steelbook.

 

2. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang - this movie landed RDJ the Ironman role.  This movie is in my top 50 favorite easily - maybe top 20.

 

3. Office Space - this cult classic really needs a Steelbook treatment (as does Idiocracy).

 

4.  Dragon Tattoo Trilogy - these movies are the definition of what should have a Steelbook treatment.

 

5. Jojo Rabbit & What We Do in the Shadows - what can I say? Taika Waititi should have more of his catalog on Steel.

 

6. The Artist - I would like to see all Beat Picture winners on Steelbook.

 

7. 42 - Chadwick Boseman’s portrayal of Jackie Robinson seems like the right equation for a Steelbook release.

- Bruiser (very underestimated!)

Movies I wish for a descent Steelbook (embossed !) release:

 

- The Last House on the Left (Remake!)

- Mimic

- Alone

- Vertige

- The Relic

 

Horror movies are often treated as not so valuable for studios, at least that's the feeling, that I've got. 🤷

 

 

And out of competition - was there a HD release for 2009 - Lost Memories?

I really would love to see that!

The HBO Movie before Chernobyl , The Last Of Us this showcases early on the story and production quality HBO where going to achieve 

 

Help I'm A Fish

 

Alan Rickman is faultless in this tale of when a science experiment, kids , water and fish mix . Charming and fun .

 

Contagion / Contaminated Man 

 

Lots of love for this little gem all star cast low budget . Sometimes a striped back movie has the most effect on the viewer .

 

Phantoms

 

Not only Steven King can rock a horror tale Dean R Kontz's tale of the Ancient Evil with a puppy Ben Affleck, Rosie McGowan, Liev Schreiber and Peter O'Toole battling to save mankind from an omnipotent force that's awoken to devour a small town in the USA . 

 

 

Wallace And Gromit Curse Of The Were-Rabbit

 

Ultimate cast and one liners some may call it a kids film I call it genius as the adults get the gags and the kids are oblivious to the meaning.

 

 

 

WE NEED A STEELBOOK OF ALL OF THE ABOVE .

 

The colours and with some embostment and debostment will be sublime .

 

Dracula 1979

 

Frank Langela BEST DRACULA EVER.

 

Willy's Wonderland

 

Nic Cage is perfect in this bat stop using inappropriate language crazy fun movie.

 

Jake Speed

 

80's madness with the late great John Hurt oozing evil as crime lord Sid .

 

The Patriot

 

Mel Gibson opposite Jasion Issac what a face off worth a watch just for that.

 

Wormwood Road Of the Dead 

 

Fun Zombie movie an original twist and such good fun.

 

Reign Of Fire 

 

Dragons McConaughey , Bale and Butler  what's not to like .

 

Dante's Peak

 

I never liked Pierce Bronson until this big bang of a Volcano flik.

 

The Girl With All The Gifts 

 

Another original take on the Zombie genre with more than a hit to  the ground braking PlayStation's TLU .

 

Sanctum 

 

Cave diving for me is a HELL NO. Even more so after seeing this.

 

Hellraiser Hellbound

 

The best of the series  ( Apart from the original and 2022 reimagine ) and it irkes me that Hellraiser got a steel yet not this .

 

 

Also Strange Days only it's AWOL at the moment.

Challenger No. 21 - "Love is in the Air"

 

 

This week romance takes center stage in our challenge.

 

We want you to show us at least 5 editions with only couples or romantically involved characters on the front.

No children, no three, four or more people are allowed on the cover. Only minor additional things that don't distract from the couple shown would be okay, unless the title says Valentine's Day (then you can also include it no matter what's shown on the cover). No "Dirty movies are allowed".

All media are allowed. VHS, Laserdisc, DVD, Blu-ray, 4k UHD and also CD (Soundtracks).

 

We also would like to know what your favorite romantic movie is. This movie would count towards the 5 editions needed for the challenge even if the cover shows more people than the lovely couple (but they have to be on the cover).

Thank you @Blu Magic Ray for what has been the most difficult challenge for me to complete. Much like @Veum I was scratching my head this morning wondering if I would have 5. I knew that some of the titles I could think of wouldn’t count as there isn’t a couple on the front of my copies (the already mentioned titles of Her and Wong Kar Wai films). So here are my 5:

Sure, Overboard’s premise is disturbing but it’s just a movie. Kurt Russell is my favorite actor and Goldie playing the love interest is perfect!

Show us between 5-10 movies on Blu-ray from your collection that you really wish had a Steelbook release, but for some unexplainable reason never got one

• Minions - Auf der Suche nach dem Mini-Boss >> no Steelbook of the newest Minion Movie ?!? cant be !!! 😜
• Species (one of the best Alien movies. Has to be pressed on a Steelbook)
• Ocean's Trilogy (Oceans 11 + 12 + 13) (too bad no Steelbooks and of course worth a complete Premium Box. For me still the best "teamwork-crime-action" movies
• L.A. Crash (phantastic drama movie which makes you really think about life, behaviour and consequences)
• End of Days - Nacht ohne Morgen (Arnie rules !)
• Im Netz der Spinne (still also one of the best cop/crime thrilers)
• Outbreak (for me perhaps beside the more Zombie-like 28-movies the best virus movie of all times. This would be a really cool Premium release!)
• Passenger 57 (somehow now a cool retro action classic with Wesley Snipes)
• Das Perfekte Verbrechen (Antony Hopkins live...he's such a great Psycho *g*)
• Last Boy Scout (still waiting for this action movie milestone)
