Challenge 19:

Thanks @lunazero for this fun challenge.

Tried to use all steelbooks and mostly ones I haven't used on other challenges.

1939 Gone with the Wind:

-A classic and just an extremely well made and very long movie.  The Zavvi steelbook is gorgeous as well.

1941 The Wolfman:

-Don't have too many 1940s steelbooks, but this artwork from Alex Ross is great.  Classic, but these black and white movies are difficult to stay awake during.

1959 Ben-Hur:

-Crazy long although shorter than Gone with the Wind.  Just amazing visuals in this movie.

1966 The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly:

-One of the best spaghetti westerns out there.

1971 Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory:

-A fun and bizarre story that's a lot less creepy than the remake.

1982 The Thing:

-John Carpenter at his best.  That blood test scene is just perfection.  Many steelbooks out there, but the Mondo is one of the best.

1995 Tommy Boy: Tons of laughs.  The deer and the car scenes are just ridiculous.

2004 The Punisher:

-Steelbook is probably better than the movie, but had some entertainment value.

2017 Bladerunner 2049: Sequel that exceeded expectations.  Mondo artwork but not a Mondo steelbook, which is pretty strange, but the steelbook is amazing.

2022 Everything Everywhere All at Once:

-Fantastic steelbook and absolutely crazy entertaining movie.

My favorite decade for movies is definitely the 2010s.  All but 2 movies from the Infinity Saga were released during this time period.  The Infinity Saga was quite a ride.

I started actually collecting movies about 5 years ago, began with blurays, then 4K, then economy steelbooks, and then stepped into the world of premiums.

Challenge 19: Through the Decades - a Cinematic Journey”

@extantsrevenge

@lunazero Thanks for this challenge!

1968: Planet Of The Apes

1979: Alien

1987: Empire Of The Sun

1997: Gattaca

2003: The Last Samurai

2014: 300

2021: Tenet

I think the very first film I bought was 1996 Independence Day on VHS.

In 1999 I bought a used DVD player and my very first DVD was Fight Club, Misery, 12 Monkeys, The Pelican Brief, Fallen, Dolores, Malcolm X, The Cell, Tiger & Dragon, Courage Under Fire...

To be honest, I don't remember when I started collecting Blu-rays, but it was when I bought my projector in 2012. With well over 900 editions from this decade, I would say this is my time.

Week 19 Challenge - "Through the Decades - a Cinematic Journey."

Here is my selection from 6 different decades. I chose these films because I think they are among the top films of each decade.

1975: Jaws

1987: Full Metal Jacket

1994: Forrest Gump

2009: Inglourious Basterds

2019: Joker

2021: Dune

In the early 90s I had collected my first VHS tapes. After that it became less for a while because of job and family and now I rediscovered my love for collecting movies about 5 years ago.

Unfortunately I missed some challenges but I can come back for this week's.

Thanks @lunazero for the challenge.

- The 50's

Rear Window

- The 60's

2001: A Space Odyssey

- The 70's

The Sting

- The 80's

The Thing

- The 90's

The Fifth Element

I find it very difficult to stay with a particular decade, but I would say that the 80's gave us some memorable movies.

challenge #19

...uff.... that's a hard one, because there are soooooo many great movies...

... I've decided to choose five movies, that had an impact on my life (when I watched them for the first time!) and are bounded with some nice and bad memories and also some, that I didn't showed you 10181 times before in the other challenges. ;)

1. ...70's

The Getaway

- Cool & sexy!

This thriller is just perfect!

I love the story and adore the ending!

2. ...80's

Blue Thunder

- watched it for the first time, when I was a kid and it was the first time I saw something that thrilling! 🤣

And it still works today! :)

3. ...90's

Point Break

- watched it in France and started surfing myself the next day! 🤣

Still one of the best action movies of the 90's and it's directed by a woman, so a lots of men, in that business had to bow! ;)

4. ...2000's

Blood Work

- BIG FAN OF CLINT EASTWOOD, but didn't expect that kind of a story!

For me, that's one of his best movies!

5. ...2010's

Warrior

- didn't saw that coming!

This movie is a great drama with outstanding performances of Nick Nolte, Joel Edgerton and Tom Hardy.

The scene, when the father is drunk and talks to his "lost" son - well, where is an Oscar, if you really need one?!

Week 19 Challenge - "Through the Decades - a Cinematic Journey"

1) 70s: The Godfather (1972)

2) 80s: James Bond - The Living Daylights (1987)

3) 90s: Men in Black (1997)

4) 00s: Star Wars - Revenge of the Sith (2005)

5) 10s: Transformers - The last knight (2017)

Challenge19_5Decades.thumb.jpeg.a89b2d54262fd0a1836918590766073c.jpeg

If I would have to choose a decade I would probably have to choose the 2010s as I am younger and do not know too many movies from the other decades. I also just started collecting steelbooks since april 2022, but I really love such classic movies like the goodfather trilogy, men in black, the old star wars or the james bond movies. Revenge of the Sith was also the first star wars movie I could watch in the theatres :) And for the transformers movie I just love the steelbook art.

Thanks for the challenge @lunazero!

kind regards

blacky

Week 19 Challenge: Through the Decades. Thanks to @lunazero for the awesome challenge!

My favorite movie decade was the 80's. I was born in the mid 70's, so I was heavily influenced by the 80's movies, music, and culture!

7O5P7tm.jpeg

The Godfather (1970's) is my favorite movie of all time. The Empire Strikes Back (1980's) was the first movie that I saw in a theater. It is still my favorite Star Wars movie.

OytyvgI.jpeg

Pulp Fiction (1990's) is my second favorite of all time, next to the Godfather. The Fellowship of the Ring (2000's) is my favorite movie of the LOTR trilogy, slightly beating out the Return of the King.

5Iloa70.jpeg

Avengers: Infinity War (2010's) Is my favorite MCU movie and my favorite superhero/comic movie ever.

We have reach Challenge 20 already 😃. Time for me to do another Challenge.

Also Challenge 20 is not the Challenge for our 2nd Award 😅, I thought that would be to pretictable and easy.

Hopefully that is not keeping you from participating. Would be great if some of the previous players return and new players are welcome any time.

Challenge 20:

"Still Missing! Forgotten Treasures!

where-are-you-james-t-kirk.gif

This week the challenge has 2 parts.

First we want you to show us 5 Movies from your collection that you love but only have as DVD because they have no Blu-ray release.

You can show more, should you not have have 5 on DVD, show as many as you got, If you don't have any, you can show 5 Blu-ray Movies that you would love receive a 4K Upgrade. But hopefully enough members have movies that have really been forgotten by the studios.

For the second part we want you to show us between 5-10 movies on Blu-ray from your collection that you really wish had a Steelbook release, but for some unexplainable reason never got one 😲.

The Movies shown in the second part have to be different movies than from what was shown in the first part.

For both parts you can add comments to the movies, not mandatory but always welcome.

No TV Series in this challenge please.

Here are my DVD Movies I really wish would finally get a Blu-ray release.

278202668_Challenge201.thumb.JPG.48d7189038dc31799e084f51db80cc29.JPG

- Lilja 4-Ever (as I found out this actually got released in the US just a few days ago as part of the The Lukas Moodysson Collection, but I only want this movie, so I have to wait. Hopefully the German release that was announced some time ago will finally come out

- In America (what is taking so long 😩)

- Die Jugger, or otherwise known as The Blood of Heroes, or Salute of the Jugger (had to include this as you can't call the Japanese Blu-ray which I own a Blu-ray, what a disgrace and in no way better than a bad DVD 😡)

- Hard Boiled (I understand this had a release years ago in the USA, which was not so good. I just saw that a more recent release was made in Hong Kong and there seems to be a Spanish release. If anyone knows if any of these are good and have good english subtitles. Please let me know.)

- Macross Do You Remember Love? (Japanese release can't count for me as it does not have english subtitles. It is sad that one of the greatest Anime Movies ever made is not available outside of Japan 😭, this would be my biggest want from my list).

- Ewoks 1 & 2 (tragic that we have not gotten a Blu-ray, even when they are not that popular among other people, I love them and need them, and lets be honest, they are way better that the new Trilogy 😆)

- Azumi 1 & 2 (there was some trash German Blu-ray release, without subtitles for the Japanese track and also more likely in DVD quality, I don't know much about the Taiwan release, anyway these great fight movies deserve better. Especially the first one is great.

Here are the movies I would really love to see as a Steelbook release, some are absolutely unbelievable that they have not gotten one yet.

2025118682_Challenge202.thumb.JPG.20fadc20992cb123f8a3e0de758a331e.JPG

- A Chinese Ghost Story 1-3

- Drei Haselnüsse für Aschenbrödel (would be my highest want, preferably a German release with German title, hard to believe I would say such a sentence, but on this movie nothing else would be as good)

- Batman: Mask of the Phantasm (the best Animated Batman Movie)

- Paprika (from the great Satoshi Kon)

- Steamboy (from Akira creator Katsuhiro Ôtomo)

- The Last Boy Scout

- Doomsday (so much potential for an awesome Steelbook)

- Legends of the Fall

- Bloodsport and Cyborg (not shown) (both have a German Metalpak, but we need Steelbooks).

- Jin-Roh (from the mind of Ghost in the Shell creator Mamoru Oshii)

Would be cool to be able to add these as Steelbooks to my collection. And yes I would buy like 10 copies of Drei Haselnüsse für Aschenbrödel if it is done right.

Thank you, @extantsrevenge for this difficult challenge. 😁

PART I: 5 MOVIES ON DVD, WHICH ARE NOT ON BLU-RAY

This one was difficult as I've sold most of my DVDs. I've only kept the ones which are either still not on blu-ray, or gifts given to me growing up that I haven't been able to throw away.

The first three here: Money Talks, The Abyss and Blood In, Blood Out are ones I would love to see on blu-ray.

PART II: MOVIES YET TO RECEIVE A STEELBOOK RELEASE

A few movies I would love to see get a steelbook release are:

1. Crimson Tide

2. Once Were Warriors

3. Dirty Harry

4. The Silence of the Lambs

5. Enter the Dragon

6. Sorcerer

Thanks for the new challenge Nils @extantsrevenge

So here are a few movies for which a bluray/4k release is overdue:

image.thumb.jpeg.d37f35cc215c5eaa355cc9660eb7f7c7.jpeg

image.thumb.jpeg.a87a655d4bebd95c6e30634356e5c13c.jpeg

Affliction: a very overlooked gem from Paul Schrader with a great cast and superb performances, especially Nick Nolte shines in this bleak, cold thriller

Bringing out the Dead: Excellent movie, cast, director. A mystery why we dont own a blu or 4k yet, isnt it, Disney???

The Consequences of Love: still the best Paolo Sorrentino movie with gorgeous photography, crying out for a 4k transfer, accompanied by great score.

Der Krieger und die Kaiserin: is just one example for how overlooked early Tom Tykwer movies are to receive bluray releases...

Lantana: I have been bitching and moaning forever that this Australian masterpiece hasnt received a blu yet. A shame, you hear me, Imprint, Umbrella..?

And here is a small selection of movies I really would love to have a steelbook of:

Week 19 Challenge - "Through the Decades - a Cinematic Journey."

Thanks to @lunazero for this great idea !

Here is my selection oy movies from the decades.

I was born in 1973 so I decided to choose films of the following 10-years (1983, 1993, 2003 and 2013)

1973 - Der Clou - very funny and entertaining movie

1983 - Star Wars - Return of the Jedi >> I'm a Star Wars Fan. For me one of the best titles of all episodes

1993 - Jurassic Park >> milestone in action/adventure movie history

2003 - Kill Bill >> Tarantino's milestone in action movie history

2013 - Despicable Me 2 >> as a little Minion...no chance to choose an other film from this year. 😄

@extantsrevenge here we go:

All 3 dvds in my collection have blu-releases so on to my 4K wishes.

It was kind of hard to decide as some movies in my collection neither have 4K or steelbook releases, so had to make a rather difficult choice here:

Peeping Tom (Criterion dvd) - Michael Powell's masterpiece already got a blu-ray release but hoping Criterion gives us the treatment this forgotten classic deserves.

On Her Majesty's Secret Service (custom steelbook) - the most beautiful looking Bond film certainly deserves the best looking transfer available.

Barry Lyndon (Criterion blu-ray) - considered by many to be the most beautiful looking film ever made. I've no doubt a 4K release is looming somewhere in our future.

Once Upon A Time In America (UK steelbook) - Sergio Leone's last masterpiece is long overdue for a transfer befitting of its legacy.

Brazil (Criterion blu-ray) - Terry Gilliam gets plenty of 4K love lately, thanks to Criterion (Fisher King, Baron Munchausen), and I can't imagine this movie not following in its siblings footsteps.

image.thumb.jpeg.75942889be87443b04939eb7ca0e5730.jpeg

Steelbook wishes:

The Ipcress File (Imprint blu-ray) - I'm perfectly happy with this release but a steel would definitely be an upgrade.

Dirty Harry (custom steelbook) - I absolutely adore this beauty that my friend @BobaFett1974 gifted me, but it doesn't change the fact that it's an absolute travesty this classic never got so much as an attempt at a decent steel.

Duck, You Sucker! (Masters of Cinema limited edition blu-ray) - a steelbook with this exact same artwork (preferably glossy with some embossing) would be a dream come true.

Midnight Run (Shout Factory blu-ray) - one can always dream, but I'm realistic. Glad it's getting a 4K release but I don't see this one getting a steel anytime soon.

Memories Of Murder (CJ Entertainment digipak) - get to work, please, Plain Archive.

@extantsrevenge Nils, thank you for this new challenge. Question: I mainly buy german Blu-rays. What about movies who have not been published in our country but somewhere else ? example "Taking Lives" with Angelina Jolie. There's only an english Blu-ray but german version has not been published until now. Do they count also ?
