Media Psychos Psycho Challenge #18 M£rchandi$ing “… where the real money is made …”

 

Eyes down for the third challenge of 2023 .. thanks to  @Mrdugan for this one …

as space is usually an influential part of the decision to buy movie merchandise, I tend to try and keep it small and low key but sometimes a piece comes along and throws that idea in the dustbin … so I generally tend to buy  scale figures , posters trinkets etc.. so here is just a few bits I’ve picked up over the years

1. Hellraiser  - 1/4 scale SCREAMIN’ vinyl figure kits ..

2.The Thing … oh dear .. cant help with this one too many to mention but heres just a couple Neca 1/10 scale Macready figurines , Outpost 31 coins  .. also have posters , puzzles, pins etc

 

3.T2 Pure Arts 1/1 scale endoskull art mask..

4.Alien Neca 1/4 scale Big Chap..

5. Jaws … Chief  Brody’s police badge and a 3d LED light

Challenge 18: Merchandi$ing! Where the real Money from the Movie is Made

 

1: The Godfather

The top was a gift from a uncle this XMas that just went. Next to it is the new 4K steel of The Godfather

 

2: Blade Runner 2049

I absolutely adore this AMP and when I saw that there was a restock I just had to get it after I missed the original release. Next to it is the FAC release of Blade Runner 2049.

 

3: Rogue One

Rogue One in my opinion is the best Star Wars movie to have been released after the original trilogy so I just had to get a Funko of Jyn. Next to it is the Blufans FS.

 

4: Tron Legacy

Now I’ve had this mug since I was either 10 or 11 years old and next month I’ll be 23 and I still use it everyday 😅. 

 

5: The Simpsons Movie

The miniature statue you see of Homer Simpson I’ve had for as long as I can remember. I want to say I got it when I was either 4 or 5 years old. I definitely know it was purchased from HMV, I use to have a big collection or other characters, however I moved around a lot as a kid and in the process it appears all of them got misplaced expect this one so this for me definitely holds a special place and reminds me of the original house I grew up in.

I mostly collect movie program booklets, screenplay books or novels for my top favourites. Having said that, my love for TENET didn't stop me from getting more goodies. (A lot were available during its screening in China, so I got greedy.😄)

CHALLENGE 18. Thanks to @Mrdugan

 

 

1. Star Wars. For me, movie merch started with Star Wars figures from when I was just a few years old. I've since sold off those originals (I had at least one of each of the original Kenner figures), but as a SW fan and a musician, I still have a newer set of the cantina band figures on my shelf.

 

 

2. The Emperor's New Groove. I really don't care for Funko pops, but on a few occasions, they've lured me in—such as this one, from my favorite Disney film.

 

 

3. A Monster Calls. I love the book, the film, and now this premium steebook edition. I also love "Art of" books about movies, and this one is the best I've ever read. Truly informative and thoughtful about all aspects of the film adaptation.

 

 

4. Tron Legacy. How can anyone fight for the users without a Flynn Lives T-shirt?

 

 

5. Lost in Translation. Pretty decent poster for one of my favorite films.

Ok - here we go!  
 

1. Doctor Who: I have some fun things.  First off, I didn’t want to use TV shows in case they were against the rules, so luckily I happen to own the 1965 film version, Dr. Who and the Daleks.  Regardless, I have a ton of Doctor Who merch.  Fortunately the TARDIS spans both film and television.  Below you’ll find a variety of TARDIS collectables - all gifted to me by my wife.  In addition, you’ll see some VERY rare Doctor Who Funko Pop of Doctors from the television show.

 

Copies of both my Dr. Who and the Daleks Steelbooks are below - as well as my complete Steelbook collection of the entire series from 2004 to present.  It’s my most cherished Steelbook set.

 

2. Marvel’s The Avengers: This isn’t to show of my Steelbook (Blufans) as much as it is to show off my LEGO Helicarrier.

3. Spider-man: No Way Home:  I actually have Funko Pop from every MCU Spider-man movie and more.  What started as a collection of only Peter Parker or unmasked Spidey has grown into nearly all Spider-Man Pop figures from all his MCU appearances.  Included are many Chase pieces.  I also have a very rare black and white Fugitive Toys Exclusive of the original Spider-man Funko Pop. Also notice my modest Wolverine collection, as well as my complete Goose/Flerken collection.

 

 

Paired with my black and white Pop is the Blufans Collectors Steelbook.

 

4. Back the Future:  SAVE THE CLOCK TOWER! These movie moment Funko were amazing - Marty with the Delorean and Doc at the Clock Tower.  I lucked into the Delorean for retail well after release and it has sense exploded in value.  I ordered the Clock Tower on its opening Prerelease day, and I waited over 2 years for it to get to me. 
 

The Steelbook is the Target trilogy release:

 

5. Raiders of the Lost Ark & Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom: I won’t lie.  I paid a pretty penny for these two exceptionally rare Funko Pop.  The Raiders is a San Diego Comic Con exclusive (I also have exclusives from SDCC - Twelfth Doctor in Spacesuit,  Thirteenth Doctor in Trench Coat, Ted Lasso, and Taika Waititi).  The Temple of Doom is a Disney Park exclusive.  Included are the UK/Zavvi Steelbooks.

 

6. Up and 42: Extra Credit are another set of Pops and a McFarlane baseball statue.  I have every Funko Pop of Carl and Ellie (together) released, as well as the house.  They’re fun sets.  I also have the black and white Chase statue of Jackie Robinson.  Up is the Blufans premium, and 42 is an amaray in a slipcase from Best Buy.

Week 19 Challenge - "Through the Decades - a Cinematic Journey"

 

Thought this would be fairly straightforward for most members to complete!

 

Members should choose any 5 films which had a theatrical release in 5 different decades. All forms of physical media is allowed - VHS, DVD, Laserdisc, steelbooks etc

 

The decades can be chosen from 1930s to 2010s - as long as each film had its theatrical release in that decade. Using films from the same franchise is not allowed such as Star Wars, MCU etc as many of these span 2 or more decades. If you wish to post films from more than 5 decades that is also fine.

 

If possible, please state your reason for choosing each film.

We would also like to know which cinematic decade was your favourite for movies and when you started collecting movies.

 

Here is my entry to kick things off...

 

1970s: Star Wars: A New Hope - the film that started it all, never get tired of watching it!

1980s: Karate Kid - we all loved to recreate that "flying" kick in the final sequence... far better than the sequels

1990s: Silence of the Lambs - incredible performances from Foster and Hopkins

2000s: Kill Bill Volume 1 - in my top 3 Tarantino films, and this steelbook from Novamedia is just simply a masterpiece

2010s: Guardians of the Galaxy - one of my favourite MCU entries and especially the 3D IMAX ratio scenes. An easy rewatch anytime, anywhere!

 

Difficult to pin down a favourite decade but probably 90s for Pulp Fiction, Jurassic Park however still love many of the new films released each year. 

It was about 1998 when I started collecting movies - the days of DVDs lol.
