Challenge 9

I'll start with the first one I bought, The Lion King (I don't exactly remember but I think it was a gift from my parents so I'm not sure if it counts as "a first") and I've added a recently bought vinyle.

As for the rest I have a few CD's from my Uni time as I always listened to it while driving but after changing cars I had no more cd player and switched to bluetooth+ Deezer.

Thankfully I collect some LP/vinyle too 😋

🦁 The Lion King 🦁

IMG_20221111_211822.thumb.jpg.ad3d072284caf9b189bdc947d554ba47.jpg

Pirate of the Caribbean

IMG_20221111_211901.thumb.jpg.369ff9949b885fe68ccaaf40a2ecf184.jpg

King Arthur

IMG_20221111_211925.thumb.jpg.0cfc334f6fa56053661458a6f85c74ca.jpg

Indiana Jones trilogy

IMG_20221111_211733.thumb.jpg.935234d104009e14ff359f29b4c9df38.jpg

Thor Ragnarok

IMG_20221111_211649.thumb.jpg.fb6b004d69b204a373f66b8f0deec9c4.jpg

As you can see I really like Hans Zimmer, without him the movies would feel much more different. For me the soundtrack really matters on if I like a movie or not. (My second favorite composer is Ramin Djawadi, a genius too ! )

Thanks for making me dig into 'lost/forgotten things' I rediscovered some very good CDs 😋

Most sentimental would be The Greatest Showman since it was the first movie and musical that my then-girlfriend (now-wife) showed me. Similarly, Funny Girl and West Side story are included because of her. As for the Halloween set, it’s clear that Halloween has an iconic theme however I think there are pieces throughout the franchise that have gone overlooked so had to include 2/3.

Well, I can’t participate completely since I only actually own one, but maybe the one I do have is so downright amazing it can count for all 5? Maybe?

Let’s start with the first I ever got. I believe there was one Christmas where my parents got me a cassette player and a few of my favorite movie soundtracks to go with it. I believe those were from Anastasia, Star Wars Ep 1, and Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone. There might’ve been some others but my brain sucks and can’t remember back to when I was like 5 years old or whatever.

Fast forward back to now and while I do love movie soundtracks, I don’t buy any music. Have debated collecting mondo vinyls since I collect their posters, but I don’t even have a vinyl player so it’s seemed pointless. Maybe someday. But that brings me to what I DO have, and that is…

POKEMON THE FIRST MOVIE!!!

41564041-38E3-4E59-8597-98E3EAA32DAA.thumb.jpeg.95abe1e9fd0c412d704d10ea5a42b204.jpeg

Pokémon played a HUGE part in my childhood, and that first movie was everything a kid could have dreamed of. Also might’ve been the first movie to make me cry like a baby. Pikachu just loved Ash so much 😭. Anyway, I listened to this soundtrack a lot back in the day. Parents told me to go through our junk closet when they moved and I found this laying in there and grabbed it. Honestly a miracle it hadn’t been lost for good. Unfortunately I did manage to lose the dope Mew card I got from seeing the movie in theaters though.

Hopefully that one soundtrack is worth a full point, if not I’ll take .2 points 😉!

Happy Cheering GIF by bluesbear

so a few members have some Soundtracks left after all 😅

@cypheria078 I tend to ignore these compilation Soundtracks that feature different musicians, most of the time only very few of the songs are actually in the movie 😅

@nerdist looking good 👌, yours too @Cornrow 😀

@coupelle really sad Disney has stopped releasing any new MCU Soundtracks on CD. I simply don't want to buy any digital copies. If I by a physical copy and get the digital in addition that is great, but only getting dgital simply sucks.

@Scary Hair it is a real tragedy that Highlander has no real soundtrack cd. The only thing you can get is different bootlegs with the score 😭. Same for Excalibur, I had the LP so many years ago, but there is no official CD Version 😭.

Awesome @lunazero, I also have that Dark Knight Edition and a differnet 2-Disc Set for Man of Steel.

@bungral this I eill allow, some Game Soundtrack are really good and have a cinematic feel. I also have the Final Fantasy XIII Scores.

Simply WOW @Tonic24k a good reason to collect LPs, because Ant-Man and the Wasp, Black Widow and Shang-Shi are all movies that did not get a CD release 😨 it is so stupid, but I don't want to also collect LPs. Thanks for showing, they look great.

@Darkinoux also a great submission, very happy that we got to see more Soundtracks during the week.

@Danie_L thanks for joining the Psycho challenge and for showing us your Soundtracks 🙏

@Ryan.miller.429 nice and passionate story, but sadly not a point 😲pokemon crying GIF sorry.

Tomorrow we will already enter challenge 10 and I promise you that EVERYONE should be able to do that challenge 😃

Some nice splatter vinyl.  I collect colored vinyl too, I think it's great, and NO, it does not affect sound quality. :)

Yep definitely agree .. vinyl is vinyl whatever colour it is … and no sonic difference that i can hear anyway… and now its all 180g heavyweight anyway so at least its flat now …😆😆

Don't want to derail things too far, but don't get me started on the 180g thing.  :)  Source/mastering/pressing plant are the main determinations of sound quality.  I'll take a Kevin Gray mastered record from original tapes pressed at RTI on 140g any day, over a lazy digital transfer pressed at Memphis Records on 180g.  Rant over.

Back to the challenges.

Yes of course they will .. 10 is just the first landmark for an award… then I suppose it will be 20…30….40…etc….you only need to attempt the ones you feel you can complete… if you can’t  do a certain challenge.. no problem .. wait for the next one …

Submission for Challenge 9 - Don't Stop the Music.  Thanks @Gentleman

I couldn't find the box of soundtracks I was looking for in storage, but I was able to find 5.

• Wonder Woman - Titans of Cult

• Breakin' - Some bootlegged bluray

• Singin' in the Rain - 60th Anniversary Edition

• Scott Pilgram - Titans of Cult

• Almost Famous - Multi-Retailer DVD, and it's WIDESCREEN!!!!  Woohoo.

I have no idea what my first soundtrack was.  But, my earliest memory of a soundtrack was Saturday Night Fever.  I was a kid, I think my older sister may have had the soundtrack, and at some point I inherited it, because I destroyed it dj'ing in clubs in the 90s when it was ironic to play it.  But I still have it somewhere, my sister doesn't want it back.

Challenge 9 - Don’t Stop the Music

Well @Gentleman I did indeed drag my butt up to the loft, and much to my frustration & concern I could not find the items that I was looking for.

giphy.gif

I confess that I did not plough through the Entire loft, but we are so close to Xmas that I could not bring myself to turn the loft into disrepute and chaos, only to then forget about it until I pop back up for the Xmas decorations and realise the mess from my haste to satisfy your curiosity 😂

giphy-downsized-large.gif

Alas, I was hoping to bring you Top Gun, 89 Batman & 1990 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles soundtracks on Cassette! ☹️ They are up there somewhere, just typically weren’t where I expected them to be.

Even more upsetting to myself, I also couldn’t find Juice, Judgement Night or Spawn on VHS 😤 Or my Friday collection on DVD

giphy.gif

SO…. Despite having a healthy collection of Soundtracks on CD…

EF8431BC-C932-4DDB-AA70-CEF152A7EC34.thumb.jpeg.476bd6f3101ac7592cd59860692efad9.jpeg

I actually REALLY struggled to match them up with the Movies from my current (close to hand) collection. I did have these (purposely went with DVDs over BluRays for nostalgia)…

And that left me short by one…

giphy-downsized-large.gif

And so…. Without further ado…

 giphy.gif

I give you…

Amazing what you find in your loft when you really try isn’t it. 😂

giphy.gif

As for my First and Favourite. My First soundtrack was one of those aforementioned cassettes, not sure which TBH. Special nod goes to this gem 😁

My Favourite by a Million Miles though is the Epic Judgement Night soundtrack. Each song a collaboration of Metal and Hip Hop acts, specifically coming together for the movie. Sooooooooo good and still a regular play for me today. 🤘🏼😜

Thank you, for such an Enjoyable, Frustrating and Embarrasing Challenge 😁👍🏼

Wow !

So many great Soundtracks are already shown by my fellow Psychos in this

demanding, box-in-the-basement-through-searching, but exciting

Challenge # 9   •  Don't Stop The Music

I have collected Soundtracks since my childhood.

From the beginning I was, I am and I'll always a lover of orchestral, classical film music.
An ingenious soundtrack is more than just a suitable accompaniment,

it is usually only through it that the emotional essence of the cinematic statement is able to reach the viewer's soul.

Unfortunately a lot of my early collection (Vinyl mostly) got lost because of a theft of moving boxes decades ago...

Now that I'm moving again (this time, films and music will only be transported in my own vehicle!),

I couldn't find some special treasures I would have liked to share

(especially a luxurious Edition of the magnificent Score from BEN HUR by by the legendary composer Miklós Rózsa),

but I did my best to do justice to the extraordinary task given.

At this point many thanks and my respect to the creator of this challenge

@Gentleman

And now I proudly present:

1.

The Robe

Twenthieth Century Fox  1956

The Score for the first film in CinemaScope was composed by Alfred Newman, a musician with a strong affinity to spiritual material,

and the contributed religious themes he left with this Masterpiece for the art of film scoring cannot be praised highly enough.

It's a shame that so far there is neither a region free release version on Blu-Ray nor a 4K UHD disc of this movie,

although it is one of the great Hollywood major religious productions of the 1950s

alongside BEN HUR, QUO VADIS, KING OF KINGS and THE TEN COMMANDEMENTS,

which is why I was forced resort to a German DVD.

The Compact Disc contains the complete Original Score which was released here for the first time in stereo.

2.

AKIRA

Tokyo Movie Shisha | The Akira Committee  1988

Akira is the animated adaptation of the Japanese comic series of the same name by Katsuhiro Otomo.

Both the Manga and the Movie are milestones in their genre and especially the film is paramount to any other animated Anime,

especially since it's the only manga film I know of that has had an orchestral, standout soundtrack created for it.

To this very day, the powerful images, magical in their lighting, put the receptive viewer under an almost intoxicating spell.

The soundtrack by Shoji Yamashiro, which is unfortunately only partially included on the release, carries the basic mood of the film perfectly -

breathtaking speed coupled with aesthetic moments of a glimpse into eternity.

I have multiply dipped this All time favorite of mine - this time I show the WCL Set, but a special,

sharing pictures of all versions I have in my collection, will follow soon in the matching thread...

3.

The Godfather

Paramount Pictures  1972

There is no need to waste many words either about the film nor about the music composed by master Nino Rota.

Both are prime examples of soulful works - in fact they are offers one can't refuse.

I have displayed the fine, embossed (USA: Play Exclusive) Steelbook released to house the Coppola Restauration.

James Bond 007

Tomorrow Never Dies

MGM | UA | EON | Danjaq  1997

So many orchestral music was composed during the decades, while this franchise went on,

although most of the viewers are more likely to remember the respective title songs.

That said, some superb scores have been written for 007 over the years, not the least this composition by David Arnold,

of which I believe - as one critic mentioned it - that it can rightly be considered an "excellent tribute" to the entire series, and,

to supplement this opinion with my feelings about the music, reflects the James Bond character perfectly.

The picture includes the complete soundtrack double-CD and the newly released WWA-Steel.

STAR WARS

The Rise Of Skywalker

Lucasfilm | Bad Robot  2019

It would simply have been sacrilege not to include at least one composition by the great John Williams in my selection...

(even though the same applies to ERICH WOLFGANG KORNGOLD, MIKLÓS RÓSZA, BERNARD HERMANN, FRANZ WAXMAN,

JERRY GOLDSMITH, JAMES HORNER, ENNIO MORRICONE, MAX STEINER, DANNY ELFMAN, HANS ZIMMER,

ALAN SILVESTRI, HOWARD SHORE and meanwhile also MICHAEL GIACCHINO)

I have chosen to show the Best-Buy Steelbook which has a nicely debossed title and glossy finish,

using what I consider to be the most iconic artwork created for the movie and stretches it across the front and back.

The Themes, created by John Williams, became - like the movies - part of the pop culture and at the same time a modern synonym for orchestral soundtracks par excellence

- very few people who have seen one of the  movies will probably ever lose the title theme in their minds.
In "The Rise of Skywalker", the last part of the 'Skywalker Saga', John Williams once again had the opportunity to rework most of the memorable themes

that arose over several decades and thus to immortalize a tribute to himself.

I am sure that the Force will always be with him.

Finally - as always - I hope that You and Your eyes enjoyed my pictures.

:)
