CHALLENGE 27 “VIGILANTE or REVENGE”  🩸 ⚔️🔫 🔨 🤲 🪓

“The vigilante film is a film genre in which the protagonist or protagonists engage in vigilante behavior, taking the law into their own hands. Vigilante films are usually revenge films in which the legal system fails protagonists, leading them to become vigilantes.”

Alright, alright my fellow psychos show us at least 5 films that you enjoy that have a revenge & or a vigilante theme in them! 🎬

Submissions can be in any format i.e. premiums, steelbooks, amarays, dvds). 😉

Do you have a fav(s) vigilante/revenge film that you enjoy watching multiple times? 🧐

Have fun and enjoy! :)

1) Star Trek: The Search for Spock

After some punks killed his dog—Mr. Spock—James T. Kirk decides to take revenge by killing literally everyone. He gets a new Mr. Spock at the end too.

2) The Dark Knight Trilogy

Possibly the most famous vigilante there is, FBI agent Bruce Wayne mows down criminals and scum as the Batman, after his family is murdered by the worst Gotham has to offer.

4) The Punisher

5) John Wick 1-3

I can't really say I have any favorites I watch multiple times, but since I love Star Trek I'll say Search for Spock is my favorite. Stealing the Enterprise and killing Kruge? Kirk is badass!

Challenge 27 - Vengeance Is Mine

I decided to focus of female centered revenge films and, as usual, included a nice dose of genre/horror.

1. Thriller - A completely depraved Swedish rape revenge film with a legendary performance by Christina Lindberg

2. Female Prisoner Scorpion - starring the iconic Meiko Kaji (lady snowblood) and her withering death stare.
3. Audition - not for the faint of heart.
4. Carrie - a classic for a reason.   This launched both the career of Brian DePalma and the film genre we now know as tbe Stephen King industrial complex.
5. Lady Vengeance - while not the classic that is Oldboy, still a worthy entry in Director Park’s vengeance trilogy with brilliant acting, directing and cinematography.

an honorable mention to one of my favorite horror films in recent years that, sadly, still lacks a physical release Queen Of Black Magic written by Indonesian horror master Joko Anwar and directed by Kimo Stamboel, this is streaming on Shudder and never lets up until reaching a crescendo of violent madness and bedlam in the third act.  713F3F16-2A58-440E-A3F3-5BD94E41595A.thumb.jpeg.81ba3a9c98975a391682f149a358a18e.jpeg

My favorite woman in film is Melanie Laurent. Inglourious Basterds is one of my favorite movies and it's because of her performance.

My favorite part of Gladiator is indeed when George Clooney steals the Enterprise, but I find it odd your description left out the pivotal scene where he finds the Ark of the Covenant with Danny DeVito and all those snakes!

Grease - Sandy - Olivia Newton-John

American Psycho - Mary Harron

Riding In Cars With Boys - Beverley Donofrio (apparently?) - Drew Barrymore

The Terminator - Sarah Connor - Linda Hamilton

Challenge #26. Women in Film.

Thank you, @Mrdugan.

20230327-004403.jpg

  • The secret life of Words (Directed by Isabel Coixet, 2005). It's a tough movie, a drama about the aftermath of war, starring Sarah Polley and Tim Robbins. It's very well done, but no, it's not a comedy. Quite the opposite.
  • Zero Dark Thirty (Directed by Kathryn Bigelow, main haracter by Jessica Chastain, 2012). No introductions needed. Great movie.
  • Brimstone (Main character Dakota F anning). I really like this movie, I think it's an underrated western that reflects a really interesting dirty and intense western.
  • Hannibal, TV Series (Produced by Martha Di Laurentiis). She was the soul of this production, following the work of her husband, the great Dino Di Laurentiis, and now that she's dead, I hope someone take the ride and go on with one of the best, riskiest and most talented series of the last 20 years, IMO.
  • 2 Days in Paris (Directed, written and main character, Julie Delpy). She was always an interesting actress, but writing and directing this hilarious comedy won me over. I had a very good time.

20230327-004453.jpg

My favorite was always "Norma Rae", a movie starring Sally Field, which our History teacher showed us at High School to teach us how unions started, and which besides being a good movie I have a special affection for. They were good years.

And finally, I have allowed myself to add one more title. A separate throne, because this film directed by the great Sofia Coppola plays in another league. The one with the masterpieces. "Lost in translation".

Challenge #27. "Vigilante or Revenge".

Thank you, @Veum.

20230327-010259.jpg

  • 2001, A Space Odyssey (Stanley Kubrick, 1968). It may be surprising to see it here, but those who know the film well know that although a book "2001, A space odyssey" was published after the film, this masterpiece is actually based on the short story by Arthur C. Clarke entitled: "The Sentinel". Because deep down, the monolith of the moon is a sentinel.
  • Taxi Driver (Martin Scorsese, 1976). What a film, what a vigilante. Are you talking to me?
  • Revenge (Coralie Fargeat, 2017). The title says it all: a pretty girl taken for a fool decides to take revenge on some unsavory guys she should never have ended up with in a house far of the world.
  • Sleepers (Barry Levinson, 1996). Yes, there are revenges that can be done with subtlety, and revenges totally deserved.
  • Harry Brown (Daniel Barber, 2009). I loved this movie starring Michael Caine. It's like a worse 70s movie made in the 2000s. Revenge, vigilante, it has a little bit of everything.

And in case "2001, A Space Oddysey" had upset @Veum, here is my favorite of someone taking justice into their own hands:

20230327-010315.jpg

Falling Down (Joel Schumacher, 1993)

Let's be honest, when you get to work early tomorrow, Monday morning, you'll dream of doing something like this. Even if you smile ;)

Challenge 26:

No way I qualify yet for Challenge 25, so moving on to Challenge 26.

Thank you @Mrdugan for the challenge idea!

1. Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen, Jennifer Lawrence

2. Halloween, Laurie Strode, Jamie Lee Curtis

3. Alien, Ellen Ripley, Sigourney Weaver

4. Wonder Woman, Diana Prince, Gal Gadot

5. Black Widow, Natasha Romanoff, Scarlett Johansson

My favorite female character and actress would be Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman.  DC finally released an awesome film in Wonder Woman, but then botched the second release.  She deserved better.

Thanks for the challenge @Veum! I don't know you well yet; how does one get to know someone who communicates mostly in gifs? 🤷‍♂️

Anyhow, vigilante/revenge this time...I included some of both; sometimes they tend to cross into each other, too! My favorite revenge film has to be Kill Bill! In fact, there are several repeats here, as it seems my film taste overlaps with several other members!

Punisher- Vigilante

Oldboy-Revenge

John Wick- Revenge

Nobody-Vigilante

Kill Bill- Revenge

Law Abiding Citizen-Revenge

Thanks for looking!

  • extantsrevenge changed the title to Media Psychos Psycho Challenge! Week 27 Challenge is live!

Challenge #27, thank you Mike @Veum for this one, I enjoyed a lot of films of the genre so that's good, I'm going to put my contribution, I start with

Training Day, the roles are reversed and I like this idea,

Gladiator, of course, this story is just incredible, a little dedication to @cypheria078 😉

Zorro, also an excellent story and having to wait for the right moment to take revenge for the death of his brother, magnificent,

Justice Be Done, an incredible story and  very well led by Gérard Buttler at his maximum and finally,

Des Hommes Sans Loi, also an excellent film, I like stories from the American era, the tone given is just perfect, to choose a film that I like to watch  several times, I would say Let Justice Be Done, this film puts us directly in the mood and which of us would not react with emotion to that, all of us who have a wife, children, I highly recommend it to those  who don't know him yet,  I also chose a bonus film, a French film with Jean Dujardin, the film is called Contre Enquête, it tells the story of a father who loses his daughter I would not say how, I let you discover and what is more  Policeman, this story puts our nerves to the test
