Great idea, Lindy @Catgirl

So here is my selection for Challenge #13:

The Wire:

my alltime favorite and still the best show ever. The level of detail, realism, character development and the smart move to commit as much time to the

"bad guys" as to "five 0" and effectively blurring the line of good/evil is simply genius. Its intricate, challenging and you have to pay attention constantly to be able to

follow the huge number of characters and storylines but its rewarding as hell. A masterpiece.

image.thumb.jpeg.4b42fd69bb38c9a2884fd6a97cb602bd.jpeg

The Sopranos:

not far behind The Wire in creating outstanding characters and storylines, this is another example of perfect TV with a whiff of black humor.

Iconic.

image.thumb.jpeg.198c746e56da4b4f15c9b39663db0c03.jpeg

Twin Peaks:

the most compelling murder mystery told in the inimitable style of David Lynch.

Quirky perfection.

image.thumb.jpeg.0d277597b42685724c53e143eef8e987.jpeg

Deadwood:

what The Wire did for cop storys, Deadwood did for the Western:

Fabulous characters, great story arcs peppered with raunchy dialogue and a great dose of wry humor.

It´s a shame we didnt see more seasons.

image.thumb.jpeg.ceb740333d30c2800606fe5a4b228f25.jpeg

Breaking Bad:

a fascinating journey, witnessing the gradual moral decay of a decent person, becoming the most ruthless and calculating character in the show.

image.thumb.jpeg.5883f0d97bd1fbf7b0c489b997244668.jpeg

Honorable mention:

Rome; Penny Dreadful:

The dialogues and storylines of Rome were incredibly good and the look of the show rivalled big movie productions.

Sadly, this must have also been the reason why the show was cut short. A shame.

Penny Dreadful had an excellent cast, look and surely the best Frankenstein Monster character ever.

Unfortunately, the 3rd season was the last and the ending naturally feels a bit rushed.

Nevertheless a great series.

image.thumb.jpeg.c935746f95b0a3654c4af874199e8218.jpeg

Series I would especially like to own on physical media are:

Dark

Netflix's DARK Gets An Ominous Trailer for Season 2 - Nerdist

Too Old to Die Young:

Too Old to Die Young by Agustin R. Michel on Dribbble

Goliath:

Challenge 13: What's good on TV?

Thanks to @Catgirl for this challenge.

20221204_161251.thumb.jpg.846e8c30781ffd74bafc3ab8d09ce846.jpg

I've never really been a collector of physical editions of TV shows.
Nevertheless, a few years ago I had a few series in my collection.
Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, King Of Queens, Married... with Children, Dexter, Hannibal, Homeland.
I have since sold most of them due to the offering of streaming services.
I also don't have the time for it now.

I still didn't want to sell Spartacus and Firefly. I like them too much for that.

Spartacus
Epic series with an unprecedented level of violence and sex in one show.

Firefly
Since anime and cartoons are not wanted here, I can only name the only Space Western series that made it onto my shelf.
Fresh mix of sci-fi and western with lots of wit.

Band Of Brothers
Admittedly, I'm into war movies, so I can only recommend Band Of Brothers to everyone.
The theater of war here is World War II from the landing in Normandy, including the training of the Easy Company.

The Pacific
Slightly dirtier and more realistic than Band Of Brothers, the focus here is on the Pacific War. Score by Hans Zimmer.

Streetball The AND 1 Mix Tape Tour
A must have for any basketball/streetball-fan.

On my wish list as a physical edition is probably only Game Of Thrones because of the steels.
If I were young again and had the time to do so, I would watch the following series again.

Shogun, Sledge Hammer, Battlestar Galactica, Home Improvement, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Knight Riderm, A-Team, Street Hawk, Riptide, Quantum Leap, The Fall Guy, Star Trek, Star Trek: The Next Generation, The Tripods, The X-Files, MacGyver, The Six Million Dollar Man, Buck Rogers, The Bionic Woman, Highwayman...

Challenge 13

I like this challenge I used to collect tv shows before I started collecting movies.

1. Quantum leap the first tv show I ever collected. One I grew up watching and I loved the whole idea of travelling through time and jumping into other peoples bodies trying to change events.

2. X-files It gets you thinking about what could or is out there. The fantastic on-screen chemistry between Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny just made the show better.

3. The Wire the writing and storytelling are brilliant, i loved every bit of it definitely one of the best tv shows out there maybe even the best!

4. Supernatural has a different variety of rather interesting creatures. From angels, demons, vampires and even fairies. It gets a little weird sometimes. I was hooked from the start and what a journey itwas.

5. Two and a half Men The combination of Charlie Sheen with Jon cryer was perfect. Some of the writing for the jokes and one liners are hilarious i really enjoyed it until Charlie Sheen left.

I’d love Stranger things and Umbrella Academy to be done.

Challenge 13: What's good on TV?

Thank you @Catgirl @extantsrevenge I’ve been wondering when we would get a TV Series challenge or award. 👍🏼

Let’s go straight in with this one. Childhood memories of watching this at my Grandparents house when ever I stayed over. Holds so much nostalgia for me and of course everyone has to love the wonderful man that was Adam West. His appearances in Family Guy and cameo in Big Bang Theory (another TV Series I Love) we’re just class. What a Guy.

4193675A-9F2D-43BB-A5F5-7214523A2202.thumb.jpeg.55959a4d866af755739bb0956b55d31c.jpeg

Next up I have to go with this one. I was hooked on episode one. The second it became apparent that this would run alongside the MCU and that Samuel L Jackson was to appear in season 1, I knew it was for me. As it happens, Phil Coulson has become one of my favourite characters and I love Clark Gregg’s portrayal of the role. He also voices Phil Coulson in the Marvel animated series as well.

8B5446F4-3C53-4281-91D1-DBA5AD5C6EE9.thumb.jpeg.21210542987f844a93fff5c7494de761.jpeg

I’ll stick with Marvel for my 3rd choice (Again, I could compete this challenge in Marvel alone). For the Epic and now famous hallway scene alone, Daredevil has to be in here. What a show, and what a performance from Charlie Cox. The fight scenes are perfect, and his portrayal of a blind man is brilliant. Of course, he has since returned to the role for the MCU (previously for Netflix defenders run) and after a couple of cameos he has been quoted as stating “it’s a Dream come true”. I cannot wait for the new series to run on Disney+.

Next up is from Netflix again, and is the super addictive 80’s throwback from the Duffer Brothers. I hope that they bring us something equally fascinating and “Bingetastic” once they have wrapped this up after season 5. I am of course referring to the magnificent Stranger Things. Love this show.

Lastly, a bit of a curveball and a guilty pleasure. Spent many an evening watching episodes of this, then one day realised I’d never actually watched it in order and wasn’t sure how many episodes I had missed. So, a purchase was in order. I binged this one about 7 years ago and when I next struggle to find something to watch, I think this one may come out again for a another re-watch. Shame it’s on DVD really.

I can also list Frasier, Lost and Angel that I have complete boxsets of, and I am eagerly awaiting a premium complete box set of Agents of Shield. Disappointed that Zavvi never finished the series in Steelbooks but they just didn’t sell.

The Wire is one of my favourite all time shows, but I do not own that one currently. It is on the wanted list though.

For 3 shows that I would like to see released not counting the aforementioned complete series of AoS and Pretty much Any of the Marvel shows on Disney+ (if they are ever released in a steelbook or premium format I’ll be buying them). I will go with the following:

  • Lovecraft Country
  • True Detective
  • The Witcher

Here are my 5 favorites Tv shows 🙂

1) The Walking Dead

Great TV Shows and awesome Steelbook artwork, even if I have to admit the show finally ended, the 2 last seasons were not very good

My biggest regret was the change of the main actor, Andy Whitfield was really fitted for this and I was sad he passed away so young 😟

No cartoons?!? I was a little worried I wouldn’t be able to complete this challenge, but I have a couple physical releases of series’s. My favorites are probably Breaking Bad, Star Trek The Next Generation, Seinfeld but I don’t have those. I’m patiently waiting for Breaking Bad 4K!

So that brings us to some series’s that I do have. Looking at these I think they all have a lot in common - amazing series, ahead of their time, all cut short. Chapelle’s show, Upright Citizens Brigade, and The State are all sketch comedies that are so hilarious and irreverent. UCB season 3 is on dvd but it’s rare and expensive. Rome was completely ahead of its time and in many ways the predecessor of GOT. HBO cut it short and threw together that second season. It really did a great job of incorporating historical events. Firefly and Legion are each series I would like to see more of. I actually preordered Legion Season 2 at San Diego Comic Con and it came with a free Mondo poster, a legit high quality, numbered poster! They never released season 2 so I ended up just getting a free poster, lol.

For series I want on physical release - I’m a huge Star Wars fan so Mando, Book or Boba, ObiWan, Andor. I’m assuming that they will never make it to disc. Another series that I would like on disc and hope ends in a satisfying way, not ending up in my above list of shows that deserved more episodes is Apples Severance. Awesome show.

Challenge no#013: "TV series"

Thanks to @Catgirl Lindy for this cool challenge !😎

Thanks to @extantsrevenge Nils for opening post. 👍

This is not only a cool challenge but also a very hard challenge for me because there are so many really cool TV series. Problem: most of them I only own as digital media so I had to decide between them I own as physical media. 😇

#1: Akte X

Still one of the best TV series which "survived" over years and years.

Mulder...Scully..."The truth is out there". No more words to say.

IMG_8299.thumb.JPG.0281c666a2567ebbc1790c6d5c2d374a.JPG

#2: Homeland

very well played Carrie Mathison as psychotic CIA Agent.

IMG_8300.thumb.JPG.d0b9c3f5fb16775b58be08f3ee71d55b.JPG

#3: Kommissarin Lund

very exciting and thrilling police series investigating a case of murder which has connections to the local elections.

Many people involved and you get more and more curious about who the murder is.

pic see above.

#4: Dexter

Dexter Morgan works for the Miami Metro Police Department as a forensic scientist in blood trace analysis but...he's also a serial killer and does his own way of "lawyer" judging criminals. Also som elements of black humour.

IMG_8301.thumb.JPG.aa784da52a234b8c1c1814e5069799bb.JPG

#5: The Wire (Sur Ecoute)

Very good police series showing the bad position of police has sometimes.

On the other hand, very inventive to monitor crime and to expose and dismantle the drug business.

pic see above.

What series do I  want to see on physical media ?

As Star Wars Fan of course all kind of series of the Star Wars universe like Mandalorian, Boba Fett, Obi Wan Kenobi etc.

But I also want to see "The Shield" which is one of my favorite TV series on Blu-ray (with german audio).

Challenge 13: What's good on TV?

Since we focused on the movies a lot already, this week the medium that has grown the most in recent years will become our focus. TV SERIES.

Show us 5 of your favorite TV Series. It is enough to show a season per Series but you can also show the complete series. Add a short comment what you like about the Series you picked.

This Challenge is about live action Series, so Anime and Cartoon have to stay out this time.

Since most of the Series are now on different Streaming platforms, we also would like to know the 3 Series that you want most as a physical release.

Enjoy the show.

giphy-downsized-large.gif

I know you'll like this one @extantsrevenge

Star Trek, all day every day 🖖

1. The Original Series

The OG, it may be 60s cheesy but the storytelling still holds up! I'm talking The Corbomite Maneuver, ooh! I'm talking Balance of Terror, mmmm! I'm talking A Taste of Armageddon, yeah baby!

Never ever will I say

nacho libre get that corn outta my face GIF

when it comes to Kirk, Spock and Bones!

2. The Next Generation

My 2nd favorite of the bunch, it has just about everything you'd ever want from Star Trek, the exception being really good action.

3. Deep Space Nine

My absolute favorite Trek, it's like TNG but with really good action! Praise the Prophets baby!

4. Voyager

Voyager is getting a lot of love in the new shows, and for good reason. Janeway is awesome, and I'm glad she's on Prodigy, my favorite of the new shows. Now if only The Doctor would show up...

5. Enterprise

It's been a long road, getting from there to here.
It's been a long time, but my time is finally near.
And I will see my dream come alive at last. I will touch the sky.
And they're not gonna hold me down no more, no they're not gonna change my mind.

Cause I've got faith of the heart.
I'm going where my heart will take me.
I've got faith to believe. I can do anything.
I've got strength of the soul. And no one's gonna bend or break me.
I can reach any star.
I've got faith.
I've got faith, faith of the heart.

Non-Trek Numero Uno: Mad Men

Mad Men is my absolute favorite show of all time, and I highly encourage every person here to watch it. Or else.

Driving Mad Men GIF

As for what I'd like to come to physical media? Not really sure. Off the top of my head, definitely the Disney+ stuff, like at least to finish my MCU steel collection.

Great challenge, @Catgirl!

Week 13 Challenge — TV shows 😁

Naturally this challenge comes up literally just a few days after I’ve boxed up a ton of TV content and stuck ‘em in storage to clear up some shelf space for movies… 🤣 Of course, I kept a few select series on-hand, such as…

The X-Files, The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, my small collection of new Star Trek shows, and Battlestar Galactica!

BBA2B5AE-1963-4B35-9E68-EF22821C3773.thumb.jpeg.c13b5876d2d77476e7281d09e75219fb.jpeg

For series that need a physical release, we definitely need Deep Space 9 remastered Blu-ray. I know TNG is out there and I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Santa to bring it to me in a few weeks. It’d be nice to Voyager get similar treatment, too. As far as any others… I think I have the ones I’d have wanted already or are in my cart already, like Better Call Saul. I haven’t really watched many TV shows and don’t have a list of any I’d like to see again that aren’t already out there. I certainly wouldn’t mind it if Netflix gets its act together and delivers on a Stranger Things Complete Series boxset once that show wraps. So, I guess that’s my three — DS9, VOY, and the complete Stranger Things!

Challenge 13 - What’s Good on TV?

Thanks to @Catgirl for a great challenge this week!  Of course I had many shows I consider my favorites on DVD that were lost when my whole DVD collection was claimed by Hurricane Sandy many years ago including X-Files, Sopranos, Shield and my favorite of all time The Wire.

Since then I’ve been slowly adding select shows to the collection when a new set is released so I didn’t have much to choose from but still found 5 of my favorites.

1 - Probably the very first TV show I fell in love with was The Six Million Dollar Man.  I remember forcing my mom to take me to a mall down in New Jersey just to wait on line and meet Lee Majors and helping me write a letter to ABC when the show was cancelled.    Needless to say the theme music/opening credits is permanently stored in my brain.

C8E2D523-55B5-4D69-8983-41BF105E07C1.thumb.jpeg.d6501361a8d1552ea8c3fc81abd044e2.jpeg

2.  Around that same time I discovered the original Star Trek in syndication and feel in love with it.  My lifelong obsession with Sci-fi was cemented between this, Star Wars and Six Million Dollar Man.

5FDC9A40-5DE3-4B9B-9CBD-A74E4096D562.thumb.jpeg.317a463fbff84e8067b31f149d9fc04d.jpeg

3.  In college I became obsessed with the first season of Twin Peaks (along with the rest of the world) and discovered how surreal, weird and wonderful TV - and some director named David Lynch - could be.

94051765-4769-4530-B4B2-8F96FC0A1E77.thumb.jpeg.4f5f763a75743bdaa4d9f53c480fd901.jpeg

4.  More recently one of the best shows I’ve ever seen and easily the best horror show was Mike Flannagan’s masterpiece for Netflix The Haunting Of Hill House.  Bravura filmmaking where every scare is earned - even the jumps - and rooted in deep meaningfully emotional characterizations.

8F5BD674-A14C-4551-BD81-107E12BE555D.thumb.jpeg.835b8c44bc2ea841a868beab3187cb09.jpeg

5.   Finally, while I do appreciate Zak Snyder’s take on my favorite graphic novel/comic ever he had to go and change the ending which I will never forgive.  Fortunately the recent HBO series keeps the giant squid and takes place in its aftermath.  Brilliantly told and acted with one of the best TV scores from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross I’ve ever heard.  Too bad we won’t get a continuation of this world.

42D9A84C-48C9-4872-A8CD-181481D8ABBF.thumb.jpeg.1a98fb5dd3496a7379ddec216e5e7033.jpeg

Bonus - I had to point out to my man @Pbsw23 that the amazing (and cancelled way too soon) HBO series Lovecraft Country  did, in fact, get a steelbook release here in the states.

878865E4-9C8A-4A6E-8442-8F9C8DF1CAC6.thumb.jpeg.4af4cf5a7cfd6efed8a469eed0ce749b.jpeg

As for three I’d love to see on disc - like everyone else a complete and premium set of Stranger Things is top of my list.  I’d also love a physical (4K) release of the recent horror anthology Cabinet of Curiosities and finally I’d also love to a physical release of Umbrella Academy.

1. Sergio Leone:

- brought biiiiig pictures to the world!

He understood the meaning of Cinemascope - and invented some shots, you've never seen before and the whole world started to use these shots in their own movies later!

Favourite movie:

Once Upon a Time in the West!

Perfect Western, with one of the prettiest woman of all time (next to Brigitte Bardot!), Claudia Cardinale!

2. John Woo:

- brought action in perfection to the cinematic world!

He invented the real "shootout-action-movies" - a combination of brutal violence with aesthetics and made it look like an opera with balett!

And some are saying, that he discovered Jackie Chan at the Peking opera!!!

Favourite movie:

Bullet in the head!

Still the best action movie ever made, so far!

3. Quentin Tarantino:

- every movie of him is a tribute, a biiig and deep bow to cinema itself!

Favourite movie:

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood!

The definition of the secret of acting!

Finally got around to joining Challenge 12: Directors.🙏 Thank you @bossjon for this idea!

Off the top of my head, Christopher Nolan and David Fincher are easily my favourite directors.

Nolan's time concepts and mind benders are so mesmerizing. Love the Dark Knight Trilogy as well, but I've got other choices for my top 3 Nolan films.

Fincher's cinematography, plot twists and psychological thrills are right up my alley. I'm not a sucker for horror, so the only one Fincher film I haven't watched yet is Alien 3, which Fincher himself basically disowned by stating in an interview, "No one hated it more than me." So I guess this is fine by me.😅

As for my third favourite, I would've gone for Spike Jonze (Her, Being John Malkovich, etc.), but unfortunately, I only collected Her, so I had to dig around my collection to see whose films I can scrape together at least 3 copies for, and the answer turned out to be the prolific Steven Spielberg.

Christopher Nolan:

TenetInception, The Prestige

David Fincher:

Gone Girl, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Social Network

Steven Spielberg:

Schindler's List, Minority Report, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

don’t forget the slow motion and a dove or two….love me some John Woo.  The Killer and Hard Boiled are perfection.  Really wish these would get quality 4K UHD restorations and the premium treatment.
