CHALLENGE 18: MERCHANDI$ING

Tough decisions here, because I own several Star Trek Eaglemoss models and I love them all. Decided to go with the Strange New Worlds USS Enterprise NCC-1701 XL edition. I love the modern reimagining of the original 1701, it's a real beauty.

IMG_9469.thumb.JPG.9e9013acb41515533358b254dcee966a.JPG

Next we have D-0 from Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker. Reason for choosing: I like Star Wars, and the detail on this droid is amazing. This was a truly stellar MP 2022 Secret Santa gift I received from @deckard99. You can actually drive the droid around using an app, it's self-balancing, it's pretty wild. My dog hates it.

IMG_9475.thumb.JPG.2cb068798d12cc6311f624c269bb126b.JPG

My absolute favorite Christmas ornament is from one of my all-time favorite movies, Alien. Behold, the Xenomorph, from Hallmark. This one's wild because it harkens back to the original Xenomorph designs where you can actually see the skull underneath. I like hiding this ornament deep in the Christmas tree because it blends in with the branches really well—it's actually mildly startling when you first spot it. A testament to the great H.R. Giger's design.

IMG_9473.thumb.JPG.57e2046fb689143811313c0948fe669a.JPG

Interstellar is another all-time favorite of mine (should probably get myself a Premium one of these days). Here we have the amazing Media Psychos TARS figurine, which is absolutely incredible in its design and weight. Love that you can articulate it however you like too. We also have the exact model of Hamilton watch that Cooper wears in the film. This was a wedding gift from my wife, and as it's much dressier than my Apple Watch, I still wear it frequently. I cherish this timepiece for so many reasons.

IMG_9471.thumb.JPG.c2afd7e280152406c43269f6c074cb0b.JPG

Hot Wheels DeLorean Time Machine! This was a gift from a coworker of mine, over a decade ago now. He had quite the collection of Hot Wheels in his office. He gifted this to me, knowing I was a sci-fi fan. Please pardon the crappy picture quality.

IMG_9468.thumb.JPG.62d256550083a348c1eace3b5125d508.JPG

BONUS FEATURE, because I love bonus features: Lego Saturn V, Apollo 11. It's not really FROM a movie, so I'm including it here as a bonus. Huge fan of the film First Man, it's so well done and I really love the 1960's space race era. Apollo 13 is one of my top 5 all-time's as well. Anyway, this Lego set is extraordinary. It took me a few days to complete. Each stage actually separates, so you can display it several different ways. The internal structure of this Lego set is way more complex than you'd think. The attention to detail is outstanding, even down to the part count: 1969 Lego pieces, in honor of the first Moon landing.

WHAT SHOULD HAVE WON BEST PICTURE?

The obvious answer to this is Saving Private Ryan; in no universe should Shakespeare in Love beat Spielberg's WW2 masterpiece. I'm going to go another route though. 2001: A Space Odyssey should've been nominated, let alone won. Obviously, I'm making that assessment through a modern lens, as 2001 wasn't as critically well-received back in 1968. The fact that it didn't even get a Best Cinematography nomination is just astounding to me.

Also, more recently... I'd have given La La Land Best Picture over Moonlight (though, I didn't dislike Moonlight). Also probably would've given A Star Is Born the award over Green Book. Actually, now that I'm looking at the full list of winners & noms, there's lot of arguably questionable Best Picture winners in there.

CHALLENGE 27: VIGILANTE OR REVENGE

The Dark Knight series (vigilante)

Unhinged (revenge)

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (revenge)

The Revenant (revenge)

John Wick (vigilante)

This challenge (thanks @Veum!) made me realize I didn't have one of my favorite revenge films: The Count of Monte Cristo. Gonna have to rectify that.

CHALLENGE 34: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

Found so many that I had a hard time whittling down the list. I'm going to try and skip some of my obvious favorites like 2001, Blade Runner, T2, etc.

Soylent Green (released in 1973, set in 2022)

IMG_9507.thumb.JPG.67b4917368486b522dd390fe23a32458.JPG

Escape from New York (released in 1981, set in 1997)

IMG_9510.thumb.JPG.9e4b01cae75f1321457040aa688a44f6.JPG

2010: The Year We Make Contact (released in 1984, set in 2010)

IMG_9509.thumb.JPG.3e9b0cdf7abf95ff83eae9e284fe1485.JPG

Bonus Feature: Johnny Mnemonic (released in 1995, set in 2021)

CHALLENGE 26: WOMEN IN FILM

The obvious one I would choose: the great Sigourney Weaver, in Alien.

1990.jpg.5321796395adfd41a2fadcab1f541072.jpgIMG_9522.thumb.JPG.1c35a596077336cc09600b8f00474676.JPG

Lady Gaga for her performance in A Star is Born. She has been fantastic in everything I've seen her in though, American Horror Story also comes to mind.

IMG_9527.thumb.JPG.de3f2b3e27812c3ea0923d9307d90ce4.JPG

I'm a huge fan of Rebecca Ferguson. Her role in Doctor Sleep is scene stealing. She's an incredibly talented actress, imho. Silo this year was fantastic.

Jamie Lee Curtis, amazing in everything:

...and so many more. I'm going to go overboard on this one, because I can't close this post out without mentioning some incredible women behind the camera as well.

Kathryn Bigelow, director of amazing films such as the classic Point Break (my Dad's favorite movie):

Mary Harron, director of American Psycho:

Lana Wachowski, legend:

Gale Anne Hurd, who has produced some absolutely monumental films, such as The Terminator, Aliens, Armageddon, and one of my all-time favorites, The Abyss:

CHALLENGE 15: LET IT SNOW

Let's talk Christmas in July, shall we? My wife and I most look forward to watching Home Alone, Bad Santa, Christmas Vacation, Elf, and Love Actually.

Fun fact: Bad Santa is one of the only movies that reliably makes me cry with laughter.

IMG_9537.thumb.JPG.296827105dde9fffc39b09b6ec0cb72f.JPGIMG_9536.thumb.JPG.2295a585cf456d3c57ee21ce55df66bc.JPGIMG_9532.thumb.JPG.09434fadc3586cf90648fddcb14f1fc9.JPGIMG_9531.thumb.JPG.877d766fad511a6dc0c823f8f4c52928.JPGIMG_9533.thumb.JPG.3d0fc4555173a282821acffe5db54477.JPGIMG_9535.thumb.JPG.a9badadbf3dfac10d7929873434789eb.JPG

CHALLENGE 20: STILL MISSING! FORGOTTEN TREASURES

Here we go! Whether or not these are treasures are up to you, but they've certainly been forgotten. The Abyss & True Lies is the obvious answer here, but I'll find some different films. Part 1 of the challenge as follows...

  • Solaris: Anyone who participated in Films Unearthed knows I'm a fan of Steven Soderbergh's Solaris remake. I still can't fathom how that hasn't been released on Blu-ray. The visuals alone should make it a given.
  • Pirates of Silicon Valley is a fun look at early Steve Jobs/Bill Gates rivalry, not the greatest film but fun nonetheless.
  • Down Periscope, stupid comedy that I first saw as a kid and loved. Still enjoy it.
  • S1m0ne, I don't remember this movie at all. Liked it when I was a kid, still have the VHS despite not having a VCR. Seems relevant right now though, given the plot about an AI actress.
  • 2010 is a favorite of mine. This would be an incredible 4K upgrade! 2010 boasts a significant amount of film grain and shadow, and I think it would translate really well to UHD.

IMG_9748.thumb.JPG.5d2b99e71fda361ac16b5d5de3e293db.JPGIMG_9749.thumb.JPG.77ff21acc4e801d4f009b8312394861a.JPGIMG_9750.thumb.JPG.179a0c2ee3ef7bc638d62fcf204c99b8.JPGIMG_9751.thumb.JPG.761f7dcf552fab47554e37c1a588e4fb.JPGIMG_9752.thumb.JPG.6894c4a07bafa434f312c5e652dcb378.JPG

PART II: STEELBOOK WISHES

I feel like these could potentially all have unique and interesting cover art designs for a steelbook. Not necessarily using the amaray artwork, but maybe something more special. Time Machine original and remake would make for an awesome steelbook double feature.

It’s been a busy few months for me so I haven’t taken part in any challenges however I had some free time today so I thought I’d take part in some challenges which I can do.

First off Week 27: Vigilante or Revenge

John Wick (FAC)

Wind River (FAC)

The Revenant (Manta Lab)

Nobody (Zavvi)

The Dark Knight Rises

image.thumb.jpeg.6fa42c63a443fc9aed8343e989ee12a3.jpeg

As for what is my favourite type of movie for this genre it’s most definitely John Wick 1. I’ve been a fan of it since it’s release and have seen it multiple of times.

Week 34: Days of Future Past

Back to the Future Part II

Edge of Tomorrow (HDzeta)

Blade Runner (Manta Lab)

image.thumb.jpeg.e12c60780a68752a0af576d3f79cf6a4.jpeg

My favourite movie prediction is most definitely from Back to the Future Part II where they showcased the beautiful Nike Air MAG. These shoes were eventually released in 2011 however they were not self tying as they were in the movie. The self tying version were not released until 2016. As much as I want them the current market value is just at a extortion price.

Thanks to @Pbsw23 for creating this challenge #7.  Also thank you to @extantsrevenge for allowing us to do older challenge's.

Here is my submission of 5 movies that are 'Creepin' It Reel'

1. A Nightmare On Elm Street (Horror)

2. Halloween Kills (Halloween Themed)

3. The Lost Boys (Vampires)

4. End of Days (Horror)

5. Hellraiser (Horror)

The first time I remember getting creeped out by a movie was Hellraiser Part 1. The way Pinhead would torture his "victims" was undeniably horrible!

Awards

Thanks to @Blu Magic Ray for creating this challenge #21. Also thank you to @extantsrevenge for allowing us to do older challenges.

Here is my submission of 5 movies for couples romantically involved on the front.

"Love is in the Air"

1. Mr. & Mrs. Smith

2. Silver Linings Playbook

3. The Specialist

4. Edward Scissorhands

5. There's Something About Mary

My favorite romantic movie would have to be Silver Linings Playbook. I'm a big fan of Jennifer Lawrence and I just think her acting skills are up there. I would put her in the top 10 best female actresses in my opinion.

And @extantsrevenge, if I'm not mistaken. This would be my 25th submission!

it was a stocking stuffer one year from my wife. it’s a nice steel imho!

Blu-ray+DVD copy, not sure if I can mention the site so give it a quick google and you’re golden. I need to buy the 4k and pop the disc in there one of these days.
