Thanks to  @R1s1ngs0n for creating this challenge #35. This one was a little bit tough for me but really well thought out! 👍 👍

"Family Business"

Here is my list of 5 movies that star 2 (or more) members of the same family.

1. The Departed: Mark Wahlberg and Robert Wahlberg (brothers)

2. Eyes Wide Shut: Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman (they were married when this movie was released in 1999 but later on divorced each other in 2001)

3. Blown Away: Jeff Bridges (son) and Lloyd Bridges (father)

4. The Godfather Part III: Francis Ford Coppola (director-father) and Sofia Coppola (daughter)

5. Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith : George Lucas (director-father) and Jett Lucas (son)

IMG_6538.thumb.jpg.a63b277ea6194e2615447103af61b244.jpg

My favorite off screen/on screen couple would have to be Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes.

CHALLENGE #32: The Sticky End

Thank you, @Scary Hair

20230529-001604.jpg

Among the baddies who have had the death they deserved, you can find several familiar ones; I'm a peaceful guy, and I don't have that many in my collection.

In fact, I've noticed that in some cases when baddies do have the end they deserved, cruel and even bloodthirsty, you like the baddie .... and with their death you don't know if he belongs to Type A or Type B here.  :D

Among those stickys endings, where someone gets what he or she deserves, obviously:

  • Once upon a time in... Hollywood
  • I saw the devil
  • Bullet Train

I don't think any of the three need any introduction. And in all three cases I enjoyed that scene. Maybe "Bullet Train" is the only one that hasn't been included in this Challenge before, I think, but I guess you know what I'm talking about. ;)

My three endings where the loss of one of the main characters was a blow...

  • Maggie
  • Lucky
  • The Diving Bell and the Butterfly

The first is an underrated (IMO) Schwarzenegger film, perhaps because it's so different from his usual work. The second is a great film directed by John Carrol Lynch, yes, the actor; starring in his last role a nonagenarian Harry Dean Staton, and with David Lynch making a cameo; a very good film, and very vitalistic; one of those times when you know where the plot is going, but it's worth it. The third, is a great film directed by Julian Schnabel, which although it may seem sad, it is not; in fact it is a film that instils a zest for life.

And my additional "special" is.... "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", and yes, I know the main character doesn't die, but... come on, he's as dead. Not only is he no longer him, but he's been reduced to a vegetable. The first time I saw it I was deeply saddened.

CHALLENGE #33: INTERMISSION

Thank you, @ethnosax

20230529-003132.jpg

  • 1900 (Bertolucci) 5 hours 16 minutes
  • La comuna (=La Commune - Paris, 1871) (Peter Watkins) 5 hours 45 minutes
  • Nymphomaniac (Von Trier) 5 hours 25 minutes
  • Hamlet (Brannagh) 4 hours 2 minutes
  • La puerta del Cielo (=Heaven’s Gate) (Cimino)  3 hours 36 minutes

In this case, I have to say that the director's cuts of these films are worthwhile.

Especially "Heaven's Gate" and "Nymphomaniac", which make them better films.

CHALLENGE #34: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST!!?

Thank you, @jwhitm3

20230529-012641.jpg

  • 2001: A Space Odyssey (Kubrick) -  1968/2001
  • Blade Runner (Ridley Scott) - 1982/2019
  • Días extraños (=Strange Days) (Bigelow) - 1995/1999

It's always a good time to revisit any of these three films, and incidentally, to involve my OC from 2001, my first OC. 😍😍😍

CHALLENGE #35: FAMILY BUSINESS

Thank you @R1s1ngs0n

20230529-004948.jpg

  • Eyes Wide Shut (Kubrick). The director wanted it to be a real marriage to give more authenticity to the scenes...
  • Senderos de gloria (=Paths of Glory) (Kubrick). Here the master met his wife Christianne...
  • La Strada (Fellini). Fellini directing his wife, the brilliant Giulietta Massina, in a beautiful great movie.
  • Mr. & Mrs. Smith (Liman). I've always found it a very funny film. And it's a pity they don't make a sequel now, with the good relationship they have...
  • Duck Soup, or any other of the Marx Bros. I think explaining the family business here is a bit of an oversimplification, isn't it?

PS: I think I have recovered some very recent challenges that I had lost. I still have one pending, the Golden Raspberry Award, you know, but I'm working on it. The challenge is to buy wonderful bad films. Or unfairly bashed at the time. I'll get there in time, but... it's the hardest challenge I've founded here. :D

In this one I forgot to mention one thing: as you can see in the picture, I also included two documentaries because in the documentary genre there are some really long documentaries, and these are two good examples:

  • Shoah (Lanzmann) - 9 hours 26 minutes
  • Spiritual voices (Sokurov) - 5 hours 28 minutes

anigif_sub-buzz-11005-1625614841-5.gif

Thanks @R1s1ngs0n for this original challenge, besides Miller's Crossing these are indeed all movies I would not have expected to see.

Great selection @hal56 @Chief_lookout @ethnosax @nerdist @Veum @Gary K @TechSpec924 (I was waiting for this combo Carrie Fisher & Billie Lourd (mother, daughter)), @Peter Manoukian @Casiusco @bossjon @CAYENNE-FAHRER

Really impressed that so many different titles have been shown already.

@Casiusco #32 and 33 are actually closed at the moment, but it is okay 😪. Anyway now I also have to allow @ShadowWarrior to post the other challenges too. @ShadowWarrior please go ahed and post the challenges again you did not yet get points for 😅.

@Casiusco from what I see on my list you are still missing 28 & 29, hope I did not forget to award a point if you aleady did one of these.

giphy.gif

After Challenge 35 is ending on sunday the Media Psychos Psycho Challenge will go into

giphy.gif

tumblr_mtyzo7XQyy1qedb29o1_500.gif

The last few weeks it was a little hard for me to find the time to organise a new challenge and also award points and stuff.

And during summer I need more time for my bicycle tours

9b4451a6e8ee1a9b69310f9277194833.gif

and I'm sure everyone else will also be busy. Hopefully many will continue to particpate when we are back and I also hope that more will join again (seems like we lost some players 😅).

During the break members can still submit for old challenges.

But first #35

CHALLENGE 35 - "FAMILY BUSINESS"

Post 5 editions of movies that star two (or more) members of the same family.

Besides acting partnerships I also accept filmmakers directing a family member (note: directing duos like the Coen brothers and the Wachowskis count as one family member).

The following family relationships are accepted:

Grandparents-parents-children-grandchildren.

Brothers-sisters.

Uncles-aunts-nephews-nieces-cousins.

Married couples (can be either before, during or after the film’s shooting, so divorced couples like Pitt-Jolie count as well).

In-laws and unmarried couples do not count.

An actor/filmmaker can appear in more than one movie as long as the other family member is a different person (ie. Francis Ford Coppola and daughter Sofia in Godfather III, plus Francis and sister Talia Shire in any of the other Godfather films).

And finally, name your favorite off-screen/on-screen couple.

20230530_130038.thumb.jpg.e542f52708660dd4412f3e5e8123d01b.jpg

Avengers: Endgame—Joe Russo and his daughter Ava

The Evil Dead—Sam Raimi and his brothers Ivan and Ted

I am Legend—Will Smith and his daughter Willow

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom—Steven Spielberg and his wife Kate Capshaw

Thor: Love and Thunder—Chris Hemsworth and his wife Elsa Pataky

Favorite couple? John Slattery and Talia Balsam, aka Roger and Mona Sterling

thanks@R1s1ngs0n , for this family challenge.

  • the curious case of benjamin button - brad pitt and his daughter shiloh jolie-pitt (2 years old at that time)
  • hot shots 2 - as i dont have "wall street", i chose this one that has short scene of charlie sheen with his father martin sheen ("i loved you in wall street" :-D)
  • a quiet place 2 - john krasinski as the director and actor, his wife emily blunt as the actress
  • corpse bride - tim burton as director, his wife helena bonham carter as actress (you could chose form many films from these two)
  • gone baby gone - ben affleck is directing his brother casey affleck

there are many great on-screen/off-screen couples and each day i would probably choose somebody else.

anyway, the couple that is quite fascinating are celine (julie delpy) and jesse (ethan hawke) from "before sunrise" trilogy) as their relationship develops over 3 films and many years.
