Too many scalpers buying up “stock” and flooding the for sale market, too many releases of the same movies over and over again, and too many streaming services killing the desire for physical media. I honestly think the next generation are quite simply not interested in “things”. 
 

If you are after a particular title right now, THIS is the time to go and get it.

To be serious for a second what you’re describing from my experience is the normal ups & downs in the collecting world. Some items value go up, & stay up, while some go up to eventually return back down, & everything else in between.

 

I believe for the most part our hobby is in a healthy place. My hypothesis though is that our hobby isn’t beginning to wobble but more so it’s not as geared toward the veteran collector at the moment.
 

It seems to be a pretty exciting time for new collectors joining the hobby because like you said a lot of titles are being recycled. That’s not very appealing to a seasoned collector because we have been there done that so to speak.
 

It’s also no surprise to me that the market seems to be full of scalpers. With more & more people turning to online to earn extra money I figured our hobby would be effected to some degree.
