CHALLENGE 33: INTERMISSION

Seth Meyers Lol GIF by Late Night with Seth Meyers

Settle in and get ready for the long haul. This week's challenge is all about the movies that keep us sitting still for a looong time. For this challenge, show us five movies (any format) that are each at least three hours long.

As an optional extra feature (as if this challenge weren't already long enough), tell us about a time you left a movie to use the bathroom or grab a snack, and when you returned you found that you'd missed something really important.

Thank you @ethnosax for bringing us CHALLENGE 33: INTERMISSION

Here's my submission:

1. World on a Wire (204 min)

2. Schindler's List (195 min)

3. The Wolf of Wall Street (180 min)

4. The Last Emperor (218 min, extended version)

5. The Godfather Part II (202 min)

Awards

nice challenge, @ethnosax

first of all (so i would not forget in the end...) - i have never fallen asleep in the cinema. at home? this is entirely different story 😄 but at home i am able to get back to the film the next day, right?

and to the challenge. there are plenty of movies that are long but are between 2 hours 45 minutes and 3 hours long. so not good. when i checked some films, i found out one strange thing that might have negative effect on other psychos... wolf of wall street was shown the time 180 minutes. BUT when i put it to the player, the lenght was only 2:59:30!! this time should be rounded to 180 minutes (= 3 hours) but technically it is NOT longer than 3 hours. sorry to everybody 😄

so i checked all films in my selection to check the correct lenght and i ended up with these:

  • zack snyders justice league - somehow my xbox refused to play disc 1 (and i watched it couple of months ago...) so i dont know the exact time, but it should be like 4:02:00
  • jfk - 3:25:49
  • hobbit 1 - 3:02:30
  • hobbit 2 - 3:06:35
  • bruce springsteen and the e street band - live in new york city - 3:14:12

While I applaud your commitment to this challenge by spending literally 15+ hours verifying your selections, I only have one thing to say to you regarding The Wolf of Wall Street...

challenge#33

1. Lawrence of Arabia

2. King Kong - Extended Version

3. Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King - Extended Version

4. Troy - Director's Cut

5. The Hobbit - The Desolation of Smaug - Extended Version

I've never missed anything from a movie, because of leaving unplanned.

When I left a movie, it was with the intention, to not watch it any further, in conclusion, I didn't missed anything important! ;)

This didn't happened very often, because I always finished a movie, unless it was reeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaly bad, like "Lola rennt..." f.e. - it was such a boring and bad movie. 😂🤦

But here is one thought, for leaving a movie to grab some snacks:

If you ever left a movie, because of grabbing snacks - well, this movie must have been pretty bad and quite boring, so anything you might have missed, wasn't worth seeing it in the first place. (for you!) ;)

So it seems you either have your own time-travel machine or you live in a totally different dimension... which would explain a lot.

Thank you @jwhitm3 for this great Challenge. I think we will see Terminator, BttF a few times so I choose the following movies:

- Blade Runner (1982) takes place in 2019

- Akira (1988) also takes place in 2019

- The Running Man (1987) take splace between 2017 and 2019

- The Road Warrior (1981) takes place at the end of the 80s

- 2001 A Space Odyssey (1968) takes place in 2001

- I Am Legend (2007) takes place in 2012

Seems that 2019 was a real popular year for to use in the 80s for the future. It is kinda strange that we reached it so fast and that most of the futuristic stuff we see in these movies did not happen.

I would have really liked flying cars (like the police car from Blade Runner), and I would also have loved to see space more developed like we saw in 2001. I mean it is over 20 years later now and we are not even close to what we could experience in this Sci-Fi Classic. Kinda depressing.

A cool gadget would be the Point of View Gun from Hitchhiker´s Guide to the Galaxy. Would have saved me countless hours of debates with the missus😄
