So I found this on Amazon for $25.  I’ve read really good things about it, it’s usually $40 or $50, so I snapped it up.

Wow, that book looks so cool! Thanks for sharing. I need to pick that up ASAP. I'm a huge fan of Kubrick and his work. A few years back, I visited the Kubrick Exhibit in London and it was full of props, scripts, etc. from his films, same kind of thing, here's a few photos below (click for bigger sizes)

Editing table used to cut Full Metal Jacket:

Damn, that’s amazing!  Is that a war room miniature?  I didn’t even know this place existed (not that I get to London all that often).  You took the perfect picture, imitating Heywood Floyd as he familiarizes himself with interstellar pooping.

Yeah, war room miniature! They had lots more cool stuff on display too, way more than I can share here. It was in London for a few months when I was there, so thankfully the stars aligned, but it's a touring exhibition. I don't know where it is currently, I imagine it's still traveling the globe though

Looks like no one knows where it’s showing up next.  Currently can’t be booked (assuming this is it):

I see lots of people asking on Reddit when I do a Google search now, but no one seems to know where it’s going next.

Blast! Well hopefully it'll come back soon. It's well worth the price of admission. My poor wife, I spent like 4 hours in there and she was so patient with me as I explored 😆

Yeah, I’d hate to take anyone other than a couple of close friends who are also Kubrick fans.  Sadly, most people seem bored and/or puzzled by our movie dork-dom.

Happy Hump Day All! That is an awesome Kubrick exhibit @hansreinhardt! I hope they would come to the States with it as well some day. It would be a great Media Psychos Convention (what do you think @Heywoodmoutaw).

I think this is a great idea, I would definitely travel to see that.

Need to see if we can find any contacts for people who work with the traveling exhibit.  See what they’ve got in mind to do next, if anything.

My bucket list includes visiting the beautiful England countryside, i.e, the Cotwolds, Dorset, the Lake District, etc. and looking at the beautiful stone architecture, etc.❣️ 🙏

Good afternoon everybody.

Yes, the weather is crazy. After the cold came mild temperatures, then too cold, and today we are at 17ºC (=62.6ºF), and rising. No one can understand it.

Yesterday I watched my soccer team play in the quarterfinals of the Kings cup, and they lost. Eliminated.

The people were very excited, and welcomed the players to cheer them up when they arrived at the stadium:

2024012409064464761.jpg

The team is coming from a bad period, and the fans wanted a moment of joy, at least one, but it was not to be. The funny thing is the extent to which people are passionate, and how today a city can be depressed by this. From the sky to the ground in just a few hours.

How adults can change their moods because of soccer. And yes, last night at the end I didn't want to talk about soccer.

I was disappointed with the game. We played very badly. And I think our coach got it wrong.

I hope your teams are doing better than mine  ;)

To be honest, the way it was described (and given the usual cost), I was expecting something the size of a coffee table book. But for comparison:

IMG_0466.thumb.jpeg.5b6b4609df6c0291f43fb15715f75b7c.jpeg

Nevertheless, it appears to be as cool as advertised.  Lots of great photos, anecdotes, early script edits, etc.

So, in lieu of a coffee table, our coffee table books go on my ottoman.  I like to pick up these books, read a chapter about a particular movie, then set them aside for a while.  Welcome to our ottoman, Mr. Kubrick.

Congratulations! That Taschen book is magnificent.

Well, all Taschen books are.

I have the XL version of that book, not the XXL, which I missed at the time.  I also have the XL version of the book about Kubrick's "Napoleon". The pity is not having more money to buy the really big editions, for very very very very collectors. But they can be very expensive. Sometimes they have some at 1500€, besides selling signed paintings by Christiane Kubrick.

I was there too! It was a magnificent, memorable moment. I was coming back from a work trip, and I chose to stop over in London and not in another capital in order to go. I remember not being able to leave the exposition, I loved it, but I was going to miss my plane, and in the end I left with an interesting merchandising purchase under my arm.

Two years ago, on another trip, I was in Triste (Italy), and next to the office where I rented a car there was an exhibition of photographs taken by Kubrick. I went there without hesitation.

Those were good times. Great coincidences.

But I think that those of us who, like you and me, were able to see that exhibition, can consider ourselves lucky. I had in front of me some sculptures of "Clockwork Orange", or the napkin that Fidelio puts in "Eyes wide shut", as well as thousands of objects of all kinds, private or from his films. An impressive exhibition, and a wonderful morning. ❤️

Maybe we were there at the same time! I'm glad you got a chance to go too, it really was a magical experience wasn't it? There's something about those items from these masterpieces of cinema actually being right in front of you, being real, tangible, it connects you to the film in a whole new way.

I didn’t realize there were 3 sizes of this book, thought it was only 2.  I may have confused prices between the one I got and the XL.   I was aware of the enormous one; it’s beautiful, wish I could afford it.
