  1. Challenge #25 The multilangual Psycho

Thank you @R1s1ngs0n for a great challenge.

Will anyone be keeping score as to what countries show up the most frequently? I would guess Japanese would be number 1 but after that I don’t know. Indonesian is coming up a lot thanks to the Raid!

Anyways, here are my 5 which I selected based on the relative scarcity of these languages in my movie collection.

Amharic, Harari, Oromo - Fayadayi. I lived in Ethiopia for about 4 months and will generally buy/support anything from Ethiopia. It’s a very beautiful country with many different and wonderful people. I’m really sad to hear about what’s going on now in that country. I have been lucky enough to travel a fair amount and be to some pretty atypical places. I always tell people, if you have a desire to visit a place, go now as you don’t know what the future holds. Ethiopia seemed perfectly safe and stable when I visited.

Belarussian - Come and See. This film hits hard…

Benagli - The Apu Trilogy. For a country that really loves its movies, I have no other Indian films. Seems a bit tragic. Mondo Macabro is releasing a Bollywood horror boxset that I want to check out.

Nigerian dialects - Who Killed Captain Alex and Bad Black. This is listed as English language and the VJ speaks mostly English but the actors are mostly speaking some form of pidgin English.

Persian - Taste of Cherry. Talk about a country that I would love to visit! Maybe one day. But I do need more Iranian, and middle Eastern films, in my movie collection in general.

Romanian - Delta Space Mission. Not my favorite movie but it’s an interesting journey and it is very rare to get releases for older foreign language cartoons. I will be getting Deaf Crocodile’s the Son of the Stars at some point

Edit - forgot to include what films need a premium release. Crouching Tiger deserves a better releases, something from WCL or UHD club. And of course The Killer and Hard Boiled need upgrades and premium treatment.

  2. Thanks @Gary K for the challenge. I chose to stick to Best Picture for my selections.

    Parasite (2020)

    Return of the King (2004)

    Forrest Gump (1995)

    The Godfather II (1975)

    The Godfather (1973)

My own Best Picture pick…Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon should’ve won best picture in 2001. Yes, Gladiator is a great film but Crouching Tiger is a better overall picture. Likewise, Forrest Gump was probably the THIRD best movie of 1995 behind Shawshank Redemption and Pulp Fiction. Forrest Gump and Gladiator are both great pictures but they were both outdone in their year for Best Picture.

(I know we got a lot of Gladiator fans, don’t stone me!)

    🥤🤠 🎬 📺 Thank you @Fortis93 for this excellent challenge my friend! :) 👍 😎

    WEEKLY CHALLENGE #23

    BEST OF THE BEST

I bet you can not figure out my fav genre , huh 😂 😆 😛

When I was a wee lad I was mesmerized by what I was watching on the boobtube … the gunfights, the masked man with his sidekick, the beautiful women and landscapes… just kept me interested till this day❣️

My fav genre is the mighty WESTERNS 🤠

    image.jpeg.6b5ca09b12d9f3ec9ba67bcaa79063ff.jpeg

The Lone Ranger/The Big Valley TV shows got me started along with what in our area was called Coffee Cup theatre that had many Westerns shows through the week 📺

    image.jpeg.95cc5d00d836aad5b6c2798d55832750.jpeg

Some of my 5 fav are:

    - The Big Valley (TV)

    - The Outlaw Josey Wales

    - Hang ‘Em High

    - Jesse James (1939)

    - The Lone Ranger (TV)

My dad got me into westerns and Hang em High was one we watched a lot together. It’s one that doesn’t get talked about as often as other Clint Eastwood movies, let alone the western genre, but I’ll always love it because of those early memories with my dad.

  4. I think this is the best I can do. I did some digging and found a copy of Alice in Wonderland that I didn’t remember I had. Couldn’t find my copy of LOTR though.

My favorite adaption is either Shawshank Redemption or Alice. It seems like there’s few times when the movie is better than the book (or short story), but Shawashank Redemption is definitely better than the Stephen King story. Alice is such a unique movie and interpretation of the source material. Jan Svankmeyer (sp) is amazing.

  5. Thank you @Blu Magic Ray for what has been the most difficult challenge for me to complete. Much like @Veum I was scratching my head this morning wondering if I would have 5. I knew that some of the titles I could think of wouldn’t count as there isn’t a couple on the front of my copies (the already mentioned titles of Her and Wong Kar Wai films). So here are my 5:

    -Weathering with You

    -Your Name

    -Adoration

    -Jeremy

and my all time favorite romantic movie

    -Overboard

Sure, Overboard’s premise is disturbing but it’s just a movie. Kurt Russell is my favorite actor and Goldie playing the love interest is perfect!

I don’t think I own any other rom-coms or romance movies and most of the ones I do own don’t have a happy ending, lol.

  6. Thanks @extantsrevenge for a challenging entry! I tried my best to abide by the rules…I think I’m not missing any Blu-ray or steelbook releases though there may be a foreign Blu-ray release here and there.

Part 1: these are the movies that I most want an upgraded version of. Dogma has a rare Blu-ray release that needs a 4K upgrade. I think Pi has a foreign Blu-ray release but I don’t know about the transfer. The Killer and Hardboiled have Blu-ray releases but they are just from the dvds and not remastered. Gleaming the Cube and Krush Groove definitely have no Blu-ray release.

Part 2: I have a lot of discs that I honestly wouldn’t double dip on for a steelbook release. There are plenty of criterion, vinegar syndrome, arrow releases etc that I could’ve used but in all honesty probably wouldn’t double dip with a steelbook on. So here are a couple movies that neither have a steelbook release or a premium release that I would upgrade…I’ll probably just pick up Tropic Thunder 4K in the future. Castle of Cagliostro I probably won’t upgrade to the standard Blu-ray that came out but would love a steelbook for to go with other Ghibli/Miyazaki steels. Dark City, The Cell, and The Rundown are all movies that I love and wish I had a premium or steelbook version of. Would really like to see The Cell in 4K as well!

  7. Thank you @lunazero for the week 19 challenge. Here is my submission

    1920s - Haxan

    1930s - Love and Duty

1940s - I have no physical media for any 1940s movie!?!

    1950 - Apu Trilogy

1960s - Big Time Gambling Boss

    1970s - The Brood

    1980s - Girlfriend from Hell

    1990s - Jack be Nimble

    2000s - Mulholland Drive

    2010s - Hateful 8

    2020s - Tar

I chose each for the same reason, they are my most recent pick ups in each decade!

1980s would be my most favorite decade, so many great action movies that I grew up with. No ANH but at least got ESB and ROTJ! I probably started collecting VHS movies in the 90s when they finally became affordable.
