Great minds think alike.  I had Argento and Bava as two of mine in my submission yesterday.   Gialli are one of my favorite sub genres and I love Italian horror.   Have you watched much Fulci or Martino?

    Gary

Fulci, yes. I thought about doing a trifecta of Argento, Bava, and Fulci but decided against it.

Martino, no. The Case of the Scorpions Tail is on my list of movies/Arrow releases I need to check out but I dont know much of his work besides that one. Any recs?

Just to let you know that  "Four Flies on Grey Velvet and The Five Days"  Is out and available to purchase...  I did earlier today..    Great pics in directors also. I just got into Argento in the last year.

Yeah, I bit the bullet and bought them on Thursday night. Severin isn’t exactly transparent when it comes to some of their releases and I figured I would rather buy them now then to wait for their Halfway to Black Friday (or whatever Severin calls it) and possibly miss out.

  3. My top 3 directors are probably John Carpenter, Stanley Kubrick, and Quentin Tarantino but I chose 3 directors that I’m probably the most into right now or those that have most significantly impacted my movie watching and tastes over the past 5 years.

    1. Dario Argento: for the past couple of years I have really been getting into Giallos and then slashers, horror, and b movies in general. I’m excited for Severin’s recent announcements for Four Flies on Grey Velvet and The Five Days, though their pricing seems absurd. I need to upgrade my copies of phenomena and tenebrae but I pumped the brakes back when Arrow first started re-releasing his films in 4K. I don’t have a least favorite but I haven’t delved into his more recent films, I’m sure there are some stinkers in there though, lol.

    2. Mario Bava: can’t be into Giallo without the inventor of the genre himself. I branched off with some of his non-Gialli and I think the last of his filmography that I’m going to pick up is Hercules in a Haunted World which appears to be on sale on Amazon (just ordered it right now). Least favorite of the bunch was Barron Blood. Didn’t care for that one at all.

    3. Gaspar Noé: I only learned of his work recently. He wasn’t on my radar at all until Enter the Void and Lux Aeterna were announced for release earlier this year. I’ve been (slowly) going through his movies. Don’t have a least favorite yet.

Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back the perfect continuation to the original Star Wars, what a movie that also has greatest reveal in cinematic history 😲

Aliens also a perfect 2nd Movie in a Series. I love everything about it. The Aliens in this one are my favorite design of the creature.

Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Cameron is a master of action and with this and Aliens he surely created the 2 best action movies of all time. And the effects in T2 are simply revolutionary..

I was busy typing my response and now I see we share 3 of the same movies, ESB, T2, Aliens. They are just classics! I expect we will see a lot of these in this challenge!

@hal56 with T2 as well along with two other sequel masterpieces - The Dark Knight and Evil Dead 2.

  5. T2 - T1 is a great movie but T2 is a masterpiece. The action sequences, special effects, soundtrack and Arnold himself are all better than the original.

Aliens - another James Cameron entry. Alien is arguable a top 5 movie and Aliens is not a better movie but it does make for a better action movie! It’s hard to think of a movie that better encapsulates the 80s!

ESB - back to sequels that are better than the original. ESB is probably the best SW movie entry, ANH definitely has more sentimental value but ESB is better overall. If I had to give 1 reason why ESB is better, well…

    Boba Fett GIF

The Fly 2 - with apologies to Chris Walas but there is nothing this film does better than Cronenberg’s The Fly. I hadn’t actually seen this film until Scream put out their Fly boxset and I was actually surprised I liked it so much. I thought it was very entertaining and it’s certainly far from being a bad film. One thing better than the original…I love Geena Davis but seeing my Druish Princess Daphne Zuniga was pretty heart warming!

Last entry and back to sequels better than originals…Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo! First off, it’s the greatest movie title in the history of cinema. Ok, maybe it’s not better than the original but it does have my favorite scene of the franchise:

So now, forgotten or under appreciated movies that need a sequel. Constantine is the film I would like a sequel for most but it’s hard to say that’s forgotten or underappreciated. I think both Dredd and Solo fall into the under appreciated category. Dredd was an amazing film and they have plenty of source material. Would love to see Karl Urban in this role again. I actually loved Solo and would really like to see more of Enfys Nest, Q’ira, and young Han, Chewy, and Lando.

  6. Here’s my entry

Helicopter blade sword from Edge of Tomorrow

    Hammer from Drive

    Sword of Crum from Conan

    Quintessential 80s Rambo knife

Quintessential 80s horror weapons of Jason’s machete and Freddy’s knife hand thing.

I guess my favorite weapons would be lightsabers, favorite hero saber would be Luke/Anakin/Rey’s blue lightsaber and favorite villain would be Vaders red lightsaber. I own replicas of both so I guess they are clearly my favorites! Runners up (ones that I have thought about buying) would be Conan’s Crum sword and the pulse rifle from Aliens. Runner up villain weapon would probably the Jason and Freddy weapons.

Oh my god, seeing your posts, there are so many awesome vinyl records. Too bad I don't have a record player anymore.

Get the records first, worry about the player second!

I forgot about all of those LEs! I’m always like “cool, cd soundtrack!” but I never listen to them.

@extantsrevenge I love movie soundtracks, but usually download the digital version. One you posted, Conan the Barbarian, is one I love and have listened to many times! The Riddle of Steel is my favorite track! But the physical can be tough to find. Also, if you love James Horner, you should check out the soundtrack for my favorite movie: Krull! It's excellent! Also, Star Trek 2: Wrath of Khan is him, and very similar!

I have this, it's awesome. I used to break it out for roadtrips when we left early in the morning. Amped me up listening to it and watching the sunrise. Wife wouldnt have the same reaction and would roll her eyes and go back to sleep, lol! A lot of the soundtracks are super expensive (relatively). There is usually a vendor at major ComicCons selling them and the prices just make them a bit cost prohibitive except for absolute favorites (Conan and Big Trouble in Little China).

  10. Week 9 Challenge, all of the LPs are from Mondo.

    Big Lebowski

    Jaws (love the LP artwork)

They Live (I think I hate the new 4K Shout steelbook)

Big Trouble in Little China (great artwork as well but the soundtrack lacks some of the musical interludes/segments that I like the most)

    B463A4B5-1D1D-4366-B086-87F896F35B8E.thumb.jpeg.8a5d4be92cc60a236187045aaeb5a2d1.jpeg

Bonus 6 entry is my favorite. Recently released and remastered Rancho Deluxe and the freakin sealed cassette tape I found at my local record store last week for $2. I love the Big Lebowski and this film definitely has early shades of it. I’m surprised more people didn’t enjoy this rerelease with how big of a cult following Big Lebowski has.

I’m not the biggest soundtrack fan honestly. A lot of the scores are more compelling with the movie/visuals and I don’t really listen to soundtracks on their own. I suppose my favorite composer would be Ennio Marriconne (sorry for the horrible spelling, and sorry John Williams) and my favorite score of his would be The Great Silence.

I wish I could say my first soundtrack was something cool like Purple Rain but it was probably Young Guns 2 cause of Bon Jovi. I honestly don’t remember my first soundtrack.

    Orange-Easy Rider

    Yellow-The Professional

    Green-Nausicaa of the Four Winds

    L. Blue-Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard

    D.Blue- Jaws 3

    Purple-Only Yesterday

    Pink-Pretty in Pink

My collection...Here goes: I sort left to right, top to bottom; first is box sets, in alphabetical, then Marvel, in order of release, then Mondo, since they are a set, by number, then Studio Ghibli, in alpha order, then premiums, in alpha order, then regular steels, in alpha order, although sequels go with their movies, e.g. 2 Fast 2 Furious is after The Fast and the Furious, not with the number titles, then my Criterion blus, by set number, then my Amrays, in alpha order. It's a lot @Trianna but you asked. 🙂. Thanks for the challenge! Here's what that system looks like in practice, basically a physical manifestation of my OCD:

Look at all them Criterions...wait, is that two copies of Bruce Lee?!? What/who is your favorite release in the collection and favorite director?
