hi guys sorry to bother but could somebody explain what the difference (especially in price) is between hub shipping and direct shipping? I never participated in a GB before and am looking forward for the mantalab justice league one :) Is hub always cheaper but just takes a little longer? I live in Boston, MA. @DodgyDave @Masterblaster @Scary Hair @ukade2327

Welcome @cc112. I grew up in the Boston area myself. HUB is not cheaper because there is a shipping charge from the retailer to the HUB and a second from the HUB to you. HUB is mostly beneficial to those that may get hit with customs charges as they tend to be more costly to individuals. HUB can also sometimes circumvent problems with damaged items and sometimes bundle shipments that would otherwise be more costly to ship individually. When a direct option is available, it will be cheaper and it will be faster, but is not always the best choice for everyone for the reasons mentioned above. If you intend to participate in Group Buys, it's imperative that you read the Group Buy rules that explain more fully. In particular, you'll want to note that we are having to newly institute a deposit for new members until they've successfully completed 3 Group Buys. More details are in the rules linked above.

Thanks for that explanation! Yeah I saw the rules and the newly added modification, just didn't understand the hub concepts and it's benefits.

Is customs usually an issue from Hong Kong (mantalabs) into the US?

It used to be that everything was hub and people were able to do a lot of quality control on what was passing through, but with the very large GBa they get now it's difficult to scrutinize every item. I haven't had a problem with customs yet, but since I have a lot of items that are hub only anyways, I just send it all to our US HUB now. I can say that Manta has excellent customer service, so if you do have a problem with something you had shipped direct, they're your best bet at getting it resolved.

I personally thingk hub shipping would be best for stuff from Asia. I live in UK and have been hit every time with customs charges from any Asian country unfortunately, as an example a $50 steel (inc. shipping) becomes $65 after charges to UK :(

As you live in the USA you would not get Customs charges, unless you were importing a very large amount. 

Europe is the major problem where Customs charges are concerned, particularly Germany. 

There is always the possibility that customs will inspect your package, this is a problem for any Country. This can be more of a problem than any possible Customs charges. 

 

I would recommend Direct Shipping for you in the USA, but feel free to try Hub Shipping if you think it would be more advantageous to you.   ?
