  1. Friday is good news/bad news. The bad news is, I’m working all weekend so Friday doesn’t mean much. The good news? I’m working Saturday, Sunday, Monday and then I’m off work until 12/27 (I had a lot of unused vacation time). Three more days after today.
  2. Are rights issues the problem with Grand Illusion? I’ve wondered before why you don’t see a decent disc for a movie that’s pretty much universally acclaimed as one of the greats.
  3. This is one that I was trying to keep myself from buying, I told myself “Self, you already have the Criterion blu ray, you don’t need this” but then I caved because . . . A 4K restoration supervised and approved by Terence Malick! Who or what could resist such a prospect? Certainly not me, or my wallet.
  4. *Sigh*, fingers crossed here: I’m paranoid now, after I ordered the UK version of Oppenheimer from Amazon UK only to be told, when the release date arrived, that they didn’t have enough copies. If I get the opportunity I’ll probably order a second Seven box just as insurance.
  5. Same and same. One of the best talents on film in my humble opinion. If I’d just seen the trailer without knowing, would never have guessed this was a Garland project. I’m wondering if, with a movie like this one, we could get a Garland release on IMAX screens.
  6. “Only on Netflix”. I’m going to be odd man out, but I wish Netflix would put more of their big releases in theaters. I would love to have seen The Killer in theaters, but the closest one showing it was 4 hours away. And I’m not in the middle of Montana or anything, I’m in Nashville. We had Oppenheimer in 70mm IMAX! Again, I realize most people would rather have something on streaming right away but I wish more event movies would get releases like Oppenheimer and Killers of the Flower Moon did. Make it an event for people to share at the theater, give it some urgency. I still love the theater experience and I don’t want it to die for everything but Marvel movies. Having said all that, this very much has a Maverick feel (also got a theater run!) and I’m optimistic.
  7. So tempted to watch 4K digital releases of the Cameron drops, but trying to make myself wait for the discs.
  8. Digital Bits says that’s a placeholder and that it’s probably coming much sooner. When I ordered on Amazon UK, it said to expect it by 1/14. Not sure how much that really means. But I don’t think it’s going to be December.
  9. That Maltese Falcon steelbook really is beautiful. I can practically feel the window texture just looking at it.
  10. So now I feel like an idiot. The pic in the Digital Bits article was a link to it on Amazon UK. It’s telling me I just pre-ordered it. Afraid to get too excited; I pre-ordered Oppenheimer through them only to get a message after the release date telling me that they didn’t have enough copies to fill my order. Never happened to me before on a pre-order. Looks like I pre-ordered the What’s In The Box edition, hopefully minus Gwyneth. Again, afraid to get excited, but um, I’m excited.
  11. Thanks so much, that would be amazing. Sorry to be a bother. Man I love this movie. Fincher is the #1 director whose work I want in 4K.
  12. Thank you so much, but could I trouble you for a link? I can’t find it. And I’ve ordered from them in the past, very familiar, but coming up empty on search.
  13. According to Digital Bits, a Seven 4K set has gone up on Amazon UK and Zavvi. I can’t find it on Amazon UK; can’t bring myself to look at Zavvi because I was so heartbroken when they stopped shipping to the US. Curious if anyone else can see it available. Box set looks amazing on DB.
  14. I do, but I’m almost never thinking of making money from them later in any way. There are a few exceptions. I want to play with my toys Also, almost all of them look better with the plastic off, along with whatever descriptions and/or promotional material are on the back. I’m currently in process of putting together a media room and 1) They just display better with the stuff I mentioned removed 2) I’m planning to put up my favorites among the posters that have come with sets 3) I want to display, in small frames or something, some of the best picture cards I’ve gotten with sets 4) We have put some of the lenticular magnets on our refrigerator. If I get more, we’ll be doing so again There are things I can’t bring myself to do. The Warriors set came with some gang stickers, and I can’t imagine peeling them off and putting them on things. But all that’s just me. I feel like it would be wiser not to open these things, but I’m in it for the fun and plan on keeping these sets for the rest of my days. I admire the restraint and maturity of people who are keeping them sealed.
  15. Once I got it down to 6 it was hard to choose 3, but I’ll go with this: Pics don’t do those last 2 in particular justice (at least not my pics). Beautiful in hand.
  16. I don’t think I realized there was another edition, unless you mean just the plain disc? I got this same edition from Arrow. I only popped it in for a few minutes last night, very good transfer. Like a lot of them, just ok during the credits (still a significant bump), excellent after that. I hope to watch the entire movie tonight, was too sleepy last night by the time if the kiddo to bed.
  17. Props to Grindhouse. If they get something early, they send it. Helps I’m sure that they’re location is like a 2 hour drive from me. I actually ordered a 2nd set of this one to keep unopened (which I rarely do but I love this movie) from Arrow, don’t have any notification from them yet.
  18. Ok, this is an exciting day. Can’t tell you how much I loved this movie as a kid in the 80s: Can youuuu dig iiiiiit??? So glad they included both versions. The comic version has been the only one you can find since they released it almost 20 years ago. It’s really grown on me but I can’t wait to watch the theatrical version again. Both in 4K. Reversible cover. I really like the new one; original obviously a classic: Love love love the gang stickers: 2 great poster options. Love the Baseball Fury postcard (they’re all great). So awesome.
  19. All rewatches here. So we finished this last night; again, the transfer looks amazing. I love it when I can see every detail of a car’s interior in a movie from the 70s or 80s. Still a great movie. Then I rewatched this: Always played to me as much like a horror movie as a war movie, reminds me of something like Don’t Breathe. Near constant tension once it gets going. This is what Ridley Scott can do when he gets the right material.
  20. We may have talked about this already, but I take it you’ve watched Justified?
  21. I thought the Best Buy Angel Heart steelbook was one of the cooler looking ones they made, and this one is pretty great also.
  22. Thanks. I can’t complain too much, it’s sort of the epitome of what the kids call a first world problem. Just an annoyance.
