  1. They did an incredible job casting these movies, every actor is perfect, and they look amazing. Wish they had been a little more like Trek and a little less like action movies. But I like them overall. Looks good in 4K, right?
  2. Thanks. I was curious about Demeter as well, will probably just skip it, at least for a while. I think my next Dracula movie will be Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu, which I’m really excited about. I love his stuff.
  3. Showed up Monday, just picked it up. Love that they included the marriage portrait. Some of the extras on here actually look very cool, if you’re a fan of the Coens. May have been on earlier releases but the only copy of this one that I may or may not have owned, it may or may not have been copied from a DVD that I may or may not have received in the mail from Netflix. Were I to have been guilty of such an act, I would probably have only copied the movie and not the extras.
  4. I feel like John Wick 2 was on your list, maybe? I had read somewhere that it’s reference quality and after watching the 4K I absolutely agree with that assessment. The colors of the cars at the beginning really pop, along with the entire city. Really great looking movie.
  5. Thanks! But the forward facing ones won’t stand up straight because of the shelf design and it drives me crazy. I need to add some kind of panel that goes across the bottom of each shelf. For the price I’m really happy with those shelves, just a slight design hiccup for the particular display function I want. They’re perfect for my books.
  6. Not for nothing: Amazon currently has that Evil Dead Groovy collection on sale for 40 bucks. It’s a nice set, comes with the movies and Ash vs Evil Dead (which I haven’t seen yet).
  7. There’s a TV to the right of the rightmost shelf, and that’s where video games are played! The blu ray shelf is behind where the pics were taken. A couple of bean bags in the floor for me and the kiddo to sit on while playing games. Movies are watched on the big screen in the living room.
  8. Yeah, I’ve been thinking about the cards too. When I get time I’d actually like to pick some favorites and buy some small frames for them. I’d honestly like to frame the favorite posters but it gets expensive. I will eventually post pics. I needed a ton of shelving, all of my old wooden shelves were just in terrible shape. To get what I needed to cover movies AND books (I have a ton and bookshelves are going all the way around the inside of the garage for those), I bought a bunch of these cheap guys: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0BXXK6JF5?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title Takes me about 2 hours to put one together. The bottom of each cube is 4 metal bars with a sheet of fiber pulled across it. And they’re fine if you put books or movies on them the way you traditionally would. If you try to put something on the front facing out it sits funny, because it’s not a solid shelf all the way across, really. Hard to explain. Screw it, here’s an early, messy half attempt That’s just 4K stuff, plain Jane content behind the (hopefully) cooler stuff facing out, leaving some room for additions. Have another shelf for blu ray, was really just buying movies and nothing premium before I got to 4K. An individual steelbook won’t stand on its own, have looked at stands for them but have the same weight distribution problem on the front. Anyway, I know this is way too much information and I’m probably overthinking things but that’s the current status.
  9. Weather here for the next week: This . . . does not make me happy. I’ve lived all over the eastern half of the US and I moved out of the northern part to get away from this madness! Cool movie note: Willem Dafoe finally gets his well deserved star! Hard to think of anyone who’s been in more good movies over the course of the last 40 years.
  10. I have shelves up, alphabetized everything, kind of displaying all the movies. I have pics but given some of the glorious stuff that gets shown off around here, I would be embarrassed to post them. I still need to put up posters. Being an unwise person who plays with his toys and doesn’t worry about resale value, I’ve pulled all of the posters from movie sets that came with posters so that I can make a decision about which ones to post. The room is so small that it will only be a few. Also, the Prestige Blufans set is on the way and I’m almost positive that I want to put up the Great Danton poster that comes with it. So many posters, very tough decisions. Especially since it’s also the room that my son plays video games in, a friend gave us a light to put in there that actually looks pretty cool. Once the posters go up, I actually will post the pathetic pics of the whole thing
  11. Is Dark Knight available yet? Don’t see it anywhere, may have overlooked it.
  12. I picked up the Columbia Classics set this is in a while back but never got around to watching it. I threw it in a couple of weeks ago because I remembered the controversy about blood color (either the studio or ratings board made Scorsese change the color of the blood in the final shootout, to make it look realistic) and wanted to see what the color looked like in 4K. The blood looks pretty realistic now! This movie really holds up. Awkward and hard to watch at times while still being compelling all the way through.
  13. Is this a list of movies that you already have or that you want to watch?
  14. Welcome back! I’m sorry you had such a hard time but it’s great to see you here again!
  15. This is the part where I ask a dumb question: UHDC?
  16. Yeah, I’m aware, sincere thanks for looking out though. I don’t have a strong enough relationship to this movie to justify spending a lot, but that lunchbox and thermos have some nostalgia value for an 80s kid. You make me miss Zavvi all over again. When I first started collecting last spring I bought all kinds of cool stuff from them and now they won’t ship to the US
  17. If I were in your position, I don’t know if I would watch some of the earlier versions or go in fresh. Tough call. The Werner Herzog version with Klaus Kinski is amazing. Coppola’s Bram Stoker’s Dracula looks beautiful and tells the story in a pretty straightforward way, outside of Keanu (who doesn’t stick out as much as he used to) the performances are outstanding. I’ve never seen the original silent film.
  18. Every time I see the 4K E.T. set that comes with lunchbox and thermos, I talk myself out of it. Now here it is on Amazon for $30. *sigh* Just realizing that the all region player you guys helped me pick out means I can finally get Rififi on blu ray! To the best of my knowledge, only available on DVD in North America (which I have). As for this very moment, may not finish it, but I have The Northman on in the living room. So gorgeous. Can’t wait to see what Robert Eggers has done with Nosferatu later this year.
  19. Really enjoyed it. Howerton is riveting in it, fun to watch, though he’s an aggressive sociopath.
  20. Understood. These guys are handling this better than I would, but Amazon is now the only place I can find any type of optical cable, ever since all the Radio Shacks closed. Walmart, Target etc don’t seem to carry any, at least whenever I’ve thought to look. It sucks when you’re in a hurry. Same with the RCA converters. Never thought I’d miss Radio Shack; don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone.
  21. This is exciting. Big decision: what’s the first movie you watch on the new television to see how great it looks?
  22. Well they have that “What’s in the box” edition that looks pretty great. I ordered as soon as it was available on Amazon UK, worried it would sell out. Then, because I had a bad experience with them overselling and not having my order recently, I ordered one from Grindhouse once they became available there. Oddly, was selling for around $100 (converted) from Amazon UK, same at Grindhouse (now on hiatus but still shipping pre-orders), but Amazon US is selling it for $150. Anyway, here it is, pretty cool: I like this movie enough that I would probably get other premium sets that become available, but this one looks pretty sweet.
  23. So Amazon in both the US and UK show the Seven 4K release happening 1/12. While that would be awesome, I never believed it. Digital Bits is now reported the first week of May, which sounds much more likely.
  24. Seems like lots of new members today, I wonder which eye candy brought them in.
  25. Kudos to you; I can’t even imagine having enough willpower to keep from opening that BR 2049 set. So wait, what’s the challenge idea?
