  1. I’m just glad they didn’t try to top the greatest theme song of all time:
  2. Wow! What are the odds?? Yeah, that always scared the crap out of me. In a weird way, Bowling Green is Haddonfield.
  3. You’ve seen what Americans look like; EVERY day is food day in America!
  4. We watched Halloween 3 and Halloween 1 in the nights leading up to Halloween. 3 just because I thought my son would like it more and he didn’t know anything about it; he knows all about Michael Myers. Fun fact: I am from the town where John Carpenter grew up; Bowling Green, Kentucky. All of the names of streets and nearby towns in Halloween 1 & 2 (except for the name of Haddonfield itself) are from the area. So all these movies were especially scary to me when I saw them on tv in the early 80s as a kid. At one point in Halloween 2 they mention a Michael Myers sighting on the street where I lived at the time (Bryant Way). They also mention nearby towns like Russellville and Franklin. Remember Michael escaping from Smiths Grove - Warren County Sanitarium? Both Bowling Green and Smiths Grove are in Warren County, Kentucky.
  5. As you can see at bottom right of the 2nd photo, these discs were manufactured by our good friends in Deutschland! So I’m hearing that they’ve decided to change the name of the next M:I movie, they’re not going to call it Part 2 of Dead Reckoning. Which leads me to believe that eventually this title will be retconned (a la Live. Die. Repeat). If so, the discs with Part One on them may be worth a little extra money; who knows? Anyway, fun movie, nice looking steelbook (oh and I’m not sure I’ve ever seen the Certified Fresh tag placed on outer plastic before):
  6. I am fortunate to have a very nice home theater setup but there’s still something about the theater. Some directors clearly design the sight and sound of the movie to use the large space (I’m thinking of Robert Eggers here among many others). It also forces my attention and keeps me in the movie. At home, even when I commit to putting away the phone and not taking breaks, my son ends up needing my attention or something. I’m actually really upset at the mommy that I can’t see Fincher’s The Killer in a theater. The closest showing is almost 4 hours away. Nashville, where I am, is large enough that we get even obscure movies. Had the opportunity to see Oppenheimer in 70mm IMAX. But Netflix, foolishly, is doing a very limited theater release before sending the work of one of our best visual artists to television. Anyway, I got to see Killers of the Flower Moon (they’re translating it there as “Killers of the Moon”?) in IMAX. I loved the tension and atmosphere, but feel like the movie oddly got less tense when the FBI showed up. Still, glad I got to see a new Scorsese movie on the largest possible screen.
  7. It was fun. I had wanted to see it for a long time because I always loved Gambler and especially Testament, had to get my hands on region free player first. I didn’t enjoy it as much as Testament, but it’s worth seeing if you love tales of criminal masterminds.
  8. Still awake in Nashville TN, I should go to bed! Must finish watching a movie of course.
  9. Ordered! Thanks guys! That makes 2, this and the Best Buy. Have a feeling I will end up owning at least 3 copies of this movie after someone puts iut a nice set. Will never be as good as it was in 70mm IMAX, but close enough.
  10. That show is so huge, I bet this the closest thing a younger generation has to the first Beatle dying.
  11. “FullSlip of "The Master"” I just looked that up, and it’s gorgeous. I was buying movies back then but not seeking out nice sets like I do now. That edition makes me wish I had been.
  12. I think so, hope so. I just read one notice that said it was a bit too teal, similar to some other Criterion releases. Probably nothing. I’ve been really happy with Scorsese 4K upgrades with one exception, Goodfellas, which has never had a spectacular release and I think is just never going to look great. Casino looks mind-blowingly good, Wolf of Wall Street is probably just as nice. Raging Bull and Taxi Driver both look pretty great. Hate to admit it, but I picked up a cheap copy of Shutter Island and haven’t even looked at it yet.
  13. I wish Jonathan Demme and George Armitage had been able to film the whole series of books by Charles Willeford based on his character Hoke Mosely (played by Fred Ward, and impersonated by Alec Baldwin). Fun, dark comedy that must have been impossible to market. Fred Ward should have had two franchises, this and Remo Williams.
  14. I have this and like it a lot, but there is also a steelbook coming to Best Buy, available for pre-order. I forget the date.
  15. Ok, so there aren’t many awards here that I can qualify for, but hadn’t noticed this one until I was assembling movies for the 90s award. This one’s easy. So many excellent collections on this page, by the way. As usual I take too many pictures, and of poor quality I also always throw in a few extra in case I got something wrong. The silver and black boxes with no title are Halloween 2 & 3. Fun fact: John Carpenter grew up in my hometown and all of the place names mentioned in Halloween 1 & 2 (except for Haddonfield) are taken from there. Smith’s Grove, Warren County, etc. Side note, award suggestion: I think Noir or Detective would make a very good award category. @extantsrevenge, please review at your leisure, and thank you.
  16. Really wish I felt like they’re going to adapt for some of the complaints I’m hearing about the transfer but that seems unlikely. I love this movie enough that I’m going to buy some version of it, not sure this is worth the extra money if it has the same transfer as the Criterion.
  17. Agreed. I’m glad the movie looks good, though. I want to get something more than just the regular plastic case, but haven’t found the right wow/price combination online yet.
  18. A fellow Peaks fan! I wish for the series in 4K. But I have to say, the bluray presentation of The Return is so beautiful that I don’t know if it’s possible to upgrade it.
  19. Is that Starship Troopers a steelbook? It’s excellent regardless.
  20. So I tried to restrict myself to the 4K shelf, but there were a few recent bluray acquisitions lying out so I threw those in (hi Radiance!). Sorry for so many separate photos, I started out with themes then just kind of began throwing everything together. Btw, Casino and Ronin aren’t together *only* because of DeNiro; those are both beautiful 4K transfers, upgrades at their best. I don’t expect Carlito to count twice, I just couldn’t decide between the steelbook and the Arrow release, they’re both beautiful Also, apologies for the janky card, I promise I’ll print a nicer one at work soon. When GBs start showing up, I wonder if there’s an official MP card in my future? Would be awesome. I was 15 when the 90s started and 25 when they ended so these are pretty important film years to me (though I was digging deep into movies from other decades). Had I gone to the Blu shelf, I could’ve put up Wilt Chamberlain numbers out here (basketball stats, not his sexual stats; no one has that many movies). Anyway, thanks for doing this @extantsrevenge and @Pbsw23, enjoyed having an excuse for digging through these movies.
