  1. There’s a typo here, not that it really matters: plasma was purchased in 2010. Not sure anyone was even still selling them in 2020.
  2. Had to look it up; it’s a Samsung - 65” Class CU7000 Crystal UHD 4K Smart Tizen TV. Bought it for my son (mostly) to play video games in our spare room that I turned into a “media room”. It’s where my movie shelves are, but video games are played. Kind of entry level 4K, but big so he stops trying to use the living room TV (which is for movies, naturally) . Got it from Best Buy, where I had also just had to buy one for my bedroom. Had a plasma that I bought in 2020 finally have so many overheating problems that I had to replace it. Went ahead and looked it up while I was at Best Buy, that one’s a Toshiba - 55" Class C350 Series LED 4K UHD Smart Fire TV. Got it a couple of months ago, very happy with it so far.
  3. Party at Veum’s house! Just a heads up, folks: I would discourage anyone from ordering a TV from Sam’s Club. Just a bad experience all the way around; not just the TV showing up cracked, but the ordeal of getting it returned, the way they don’t give you a heads up on delivery OR pickup. After I finally got someone to have it picked up, they gave me no idea when to expect someone. FedEx guy showed up completely unprepared for something that large (I’ll let you insert your own jokes here). Thank goodness I was on vacation and home for several consecutive days, which pretty much never happens. Sorry, didn’t mean to make it about me. Party at Veum’s house! Seriously, congrats, that’s going to be fun.
  4. Congratulations! No idea what kind of pitch, obviously, but good for you.
  5. Got mine today and it’s glorious. There’s no doing it justice with pics; embossments on nearly every surface, etc. Just a beautiful set. Take one beautiful layer off, find another under it. Great pics, mine would never have looked this good
  6. Was it good? Noticed last night that it’s on one of my streaming services l.
  7. If I had that it would go on my wall, no question. Outstanding.
  8. What does it mean to get a post approved? Most of mine go right through but I’ve had a couple of notifications that posts were approved. That Sexual Chocolate poster is amazing, did it come with a movie?
  9. I haven’t tried this method yet, but I’m going to (starting with a poster that I’m not super worried about losing, because I’m bad with irons 😞 All of the recommendations are pretty similar: https://www.hunker.com/12276829/how-to-get-rid-of-fold-marks-on-a-poster
  10. I’ve mostly finished my media room (a glorified space for playing video games and storing movies), one task left. Since I don’t usually think about value, I’ve removed all of the posters from the sets/discs that came with them. Or thought I had. Now, I have to decide which of the 30 or so posters to put up. I’m holding off, because I’m pretty positive I want to put up the Great Danton poster that comes with The Prestige Blufans set. So I’m not making the final decision until that set shows up (I hope soon!). Anyway, before spring of this year, I pretty much bought movies for the movie itself, some Criterion discs in the mix. I only started getting any other kind of premium product in April. So when I pulled posters I didn’t even look at my blu ray collection. Today I broke out my Andrei Rublev Criterion, thinking about watching it, found this: Pretty cool! Completely forgot it was there. I realize I’m probably the only person who thinks this is very cool and I’m sorry to have made you read all that
  11. This probably isn’t the place to do this, but here goes. I usually don’t love Criterion digipacks; too easily damaged. Then you look at the boring cover of this one: I ordered it anyway because I liked the movie enough to want the Criterion 4K. So then you open that bad boy up, and it’s beautiful (more so if you’ve seen the movie): Love it. Just felt a lot more creative than what Criterion normally does with physical content that accompanies the movie. Off topic, sorry. This one doesn’t make my 3 best, but I thought of it and it deserves honorable mention. Would be nice to inspire Criterion to do more of this, less of whatever decision making process led to the outside packaging
  12. Is this from the same set? Like I said, just started collecting this year, bought this off eBay. Impossible to do the lenticular (especially the one on the back) justice with a photo.
  13. Yeah, I thought I was going to be the first to mention it, then was barely beaten to the punch. It’s beautiful, and they did an incredible job on the movie itself, also beautiful.
  14. Darnit, now one of mine is mentioned in the post just above mine; it’s like we wore the same prom dress I really just started collecting premium sets this year, so a lot of my favorites from this year didn’t come out this year. But these 3 did and yeah, that Picnic at Hanging Rock set is gorgeous and the extras are outstanding. Every movie that is based on a book/story should come with a copy of the book/story (shouts to the Sleepy Hollow steelbook here). Anyway: The one in the center (and I realize most people here probably know this already) is Wicker Man, as it looks sitting on my shelf. Over on this left is the WeET Spider Man: Homecoming set (thanks MP!). Wicker Man’s steelbook made my best of list for steelbooks, great work all around on that movie. Looks like the BR 2049 set is showing up on Wednesday; 3 days late for the competition, it’s just going to have to see what kind of challengers show up in 2024. My early money is on the What’s In The Box edition of Seven.
  15. Happy new year everyone! Thanks for putting up with me, look forward to talking about more movies in 2024.
  16. Amazon US has the Seven box now. Just like the UK, they’re showing a release date a couple of weeks from now. Grindhouse was showing April, which sounds a bit more realistic. It’s weird to me that there’s no official news about this. Another weird thing: Amazon UK’s price converted to just over 100 American dollars, Grindhouse charged $101. It’s going for $150 on Amazon US.
  17. Pour one out for Tom Wilkinson. So many great movies. Hard to disagree with the budding consensus that Michael Clayton and In The Bedroom are his best. Can’t recommend Bedroom enough, probably not on a lot of people’s radar anymore. Also played the best Benjamin Franklin on film in John Adams, along with a hundred other great supporting roles.
  18. Already had the 4K, was feeling foolish for buying this, but really love the look of it in hand. Inspired me to drag out one of my prize possessions, set up a Dracula double feature.
  19. I took a week off work and totally forgot how to be good at my job. Worth it.
  20. That’s ridiculous. Britain, you officially have a censorship problem.
  21. Just left Ferrari about an hour ago. I think it’s a solid double. It’s not top tier Michael Mann, but I think it’s the best thing he’s done since Collateral. Worth seeing in the theater if you have an opportunity.
  22. We’re only giving gifts to the kids this year (something we’ve talked about doing for years), so I bought myself a gift: tickets to see Ferrari on Tuesday afternoon. Michael Mann is a deity, and I predict this movie is going to be even better than what we just got from the other old guys (Scorsese & Ridley Scott).
  23. That bottom one should be the cover for the 4K release of the movie Wake In Fright (too obscure?)
