Wasn't here yesterday cause I was on my way to a little camping trip and had to concentrate not to puke in the car 😂

@Basil this time it was just travel sickness 😂 the toilet had to endure my puking the evening before though. But even though nobody I tell believes: I never once in my life had a hangover

Yeah I took pills, too when I was younger. Now I just plug in my earphones and listen to music somehow that's enough for me and after getting breakfast on the road I was okay. 😊 just won't participate in small talk on longer trips

I read a lot of chat about movies being locked to a region. I went and bought a multi regional player with the bells and whistles. I did this because I enjoy collecting any copy I really like so I have a mixture of American releases with German mediabooks, I love 88films so I buy from them, and so on...

Am I screwing myself in the long run by doing this? I’m asking because I’m wondering why everyone doesn’t just do this, worried there’s something I’m overlooking.

PS - I love you.

Also wanna say how great it’s been finding MP, it’s allowed me to delete Reddit because I can come here to talk about movies now. Reddit’s environment has devolved into extremist levels of politics and I’m really happy to be away from them. Thank you MP!

You left one mad house for another.

Just kidding. xD

Welcome to MP, mate.

And to answer your previous question, I've been using a software package that I bought a couple of years ago that allows me to play both DVDs and Blu-Rays across all regions on my PC (I have a DVD/Blu-Ray player installed on it as well). Like you, I have quite a few films from various regions, including releases from 88 Films (great selections there, especially for an action/martial arts junkie like myself), so it's great to be able to watch them as well.

@Nickyboy

I haven’t done it yet, but from film fans that I already know that have already taken the steps always tell me a region free player is the way to go. I haven’t heard anything bad from doing so, & I believe the reason most film fans don’t go this route is because they don’t have to, because they mostly buy in state, & a lot of us didn’t realize the option was available.

Welcome aboard Nickyboy you have definitely came to the right neighborhood. We have all kinds of different film fans here, who very much enjoy having healthy conversations about films. We can all agree & disagree & still be friends afterwards.

As you comb through the neighborhood you will see all kinds of different banter. We get pretty silly here almost all the time, any reason to embrace the Psycho title we definitely indulge 😂. Welcome & always feel comfortable stopping by the English Room to chat about whatever.

I don’t know if you’ve been on Zavvi lately but 88 is releasing a nice trilogy of I Know What You Did Last Summer if you’re into 90’s slashers. Definitely picking one up. I’m not sure why it’s only through Zavvi as I can’t locate it on their central site.

no far from it, i bought a very specific high end 4k player that i wanted and with the new chips in them including the hdr10+ etc in mine they cannot modified, a company that does them in the uk cannot now do the top 3 panasonic's and make them region free with modified chips inside. like they do with older players but this is specifically panasonic im referring to.

when i get the choice i always go for a 4k copy for the very reason higher quality picture and sound plus they are not region locked.

there are companies that sell region free machines its all down to what brand of machine you want, unfortunately for me i wanted the best imho that i could afford when i got mine it dropped from £599 down to £300 as it was the last of the production as the new dp-ub9000 had just come out at £1000 which was out my price range.

so i bit the bullet on my machine at that price.

but i would always say find a region free machine and pay the extra few quid to the specialists companies that modify them with extra chips inside or modified firmware.

its finding what your happy with at a price point your happy with, my only point to remember you will be stuck with whatever machine for years so take time and get it right👍

all the best, hope this has helped

🥤@Nickyboy,

there is a couple online companies I would recommend you check into...

I've bought several from them (220 electronics) & been very satisfied 😊

remember also if you want all regions you'll need to add this w/your purchase of a blu-ray player with this company:

Region A, B & C Blu Ray: Region ABC plays Any Region Blu-ray from any country guaranteed. +$40.00

220 electronics region-free 4K/blu-ray players

*I've never bought from bombay, so I do not know if they are modified & if it is in the price or not (seems to be though, need to call them most likely)!

Yeah, I'm always keeping an eye on new releases from Zavvi and am slowly, but surely working my way through the list of films I want to buy. xD

I'm hoping they release something akin to the French set of 35th anniversary release of the Back to the Future trilogy on 4K/Blu-Ray:
