Total nostalgia purchase. I must have watched it 10 times between the ages of 6 and 8, haven’t seen it since:
-
Possibly even cooler: I have an irrational amount of love for this movie.

Multi Retailer Snake Eyes (4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray) (Kino Lorber) [USA]

Always had a soft spot for this one. Only heard about the originally planned ending somewhat recently, think they should’ve stuck with it. Fun movie regardless, fun hammy Cage before that was a meme. -
I hadn’t seen this since the early 90s and now realize I had forgotten almost all of it: That was fun! Checking out some of the extras, the fight to include/eliminate footage between Raimi and executives is hilarious. There’s got to be a 150 minute cut somewhere.

Was it any good? I love Chinatown and, having watched that again recently, I’ve considered (again) checking this out.

Are you near the beach or is it a significant journey? -
From awesome effects artist Phil Tippett, finally made his own film. I’ve seen nothing like it, though I’m sure it’s not for everyone. Highly detailed stop animation, dialogue-free, violent and gory as hell. All kind of strange creations, most of them at least a little creepy. I was fully engrossed the entire time.

So my sister hooked me up last week at Walmart; they received 2 of each of these Mondo titles and she immediately snatched up one of each: This is my favorite, love this classic comic art style: This one too, rare one that I’m not opening because I caved and bought a copy on eBay a while back: This one showed up 2 weeks early, props to Shout! Putting this on now:

Always loved this one, hard to go wrong with those two actors. Have you seen The Hunted, with Tommy Lee Jones and Benicio del Toro (directed by William Friedkin)? A lot of similarities between the two. As soon as I get the kiddo to bed I’m throwing in Rolling Thunder, in which Tommy Lee plays the pal who will help you whenever you need to kill folks.

Hard to believe anyone is surprised by this. I’m still looking forward to seeing what he’s been trying to put together for so many years.

Happy eclipse day, everyone. -
Man that’s a lot of Chuck Norris. Kind of making me wish I had MGM+. Took my mom out for her birthday, saw this at the theater at her request: Just a really well done movie, the studio system at its best. Two two hour chunks, with an intermission right in the middle. Neither piece feels 2 hours long. Really great performances from everyone involved. Actually enjoyed it though it drags a bit for me after the baby is born.

Go Boilermakers! More of an anti-UConn push than pro-Purdue, but I hope you won’t mind having me on the bandwagon for a night. -
One more time . . . Watched the 2nd season finale last night and am now prepared to say that the 2nd season is at least *almost* as good as season 1, which is very good indeed. The finale would do fine as a series finale but I hope it isn’t. There are some very interesting things that could happen next from here, they’ve changed the Tokyo crime landscape with the happenings of the finale. Very good show.

I’m really excited for nuclear war! Wait a minute . . .

Starting my car, on my way. Had a bowl of Cocoa Pebbles this morning. So within a week of a brief Chinatown showing in theaters, the 4K disc was announced. My local anniversary showing of North by Northwest is on 5/19, hopefully they’ll announce the disc shortly thereafter. -
Multi Retailer Ferrari (4K UHD/2D Blu-ray Steelbook) [Italy]
Heywoodmoutaw replied to ShadowWarrior's topic in Multi Retailer
I saw this at the theater closest to my house, which I normally avoid because they don’t seem to care much about how well a film is displayed. They delivered to my expectations when I saw this one, unfortunately, though I still enjoyed the movie. Anyway, I popped in the 4K this weekend and had failed to notice what a gorgeous movie it is, just visually. All that Italian countryside, beautiful structures and cars. I have a higher opinion of it now than I did leaving the theater. Driver and, especially, Cruz were outstanding as well, in my humble opinion. -

The cover/poster art is excellent at least.

So, I often listen to the Rewatchables. I’ve pretty much always seen the movie they’re discussing, just something to listen to for a laugh on the way to work, though sometimes it makes we want to, well, rewatch the movie. I listen to Filmspotting, though not as often as I used to. Good mix of covering what’s currently popular at the theater and also smaller, less well known films. I enjoy their March Madness brackets every year, would probably be worthwhile to go back and listen to those for a new listener. I sometimes listen to Unspooled, particularly going back through the AFI best-of list. Listened to their Chinatown episode after I rewatched it in the theater last week. For Hollywood/film history, I really enjoy You Must Remember This. The host will have 8 or so episodes around some theme from Hollywood history. Weirdly enough, her Manson & Hollywood series is one of the best Manson resources I’ve listened to or read. I like Blank Check as well, usually go back through their archives and pick some film that I particularly like.
