This and That (Where Great Conversations Are Happening)
Heywoodmoutaw replied to Masterblaster's topic in English
Man that’s amazing. That must have felt incredible. I just drug the boxes of my comics out when we moved, haven’t put them in the attic, which is where they were in the previous house. Heavy on mid-80s to early 90s Marvel, though there’s a lot of other stuff. Going to go through it with my son, who is a Marvel fan now, especially Spider Man (unfortunately my collection is too old to have any Miles Morales). I really want him to sample The Last Hunt with Kraven, for instance. See if he has any taste for William Blake -
This may have been reported here already, but it looks like the next Face/Off movie may be a sequel instead of a reboot, and Travolta and Cage may be returning for it. https://cityonfire.com/paramount-to-reboot-john-woos-1997-actioner-face-off/ Crazy.

Looks like Viggo Mortenson is pulling a Costner, writing, directing and starring in his own western. https://people.com/viggo-mortensen-directs-stars-the-dead-dont-hurt-trailer-exclusive-8619347?utm_source=rejoiner&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Shout+Main+Newsletter+-+April+2024&utm_content=Shout+Main+Newsletter+-+April+2024&rjnrid=Y7JP2Eq

Now seeing it available for preorder on Zavvi, UK & US. May be available in other places too, but definitely there. -

Outdoors, it’s like a delicious looking mushroom that turns out to be poisonous. Beautiful, sunny, 45 degrees. Been spoiled lately, we had highs in the low 80s for most of the week. -
Interesting. I rarely have a problem, but my player won’t display the menu options on Point Break 4K, or play it. I only see the background of the menu screen. I haven’t watched it yet, but it will only play on my PS5 and will have to watch it there.

Curious to see what you think. I love the idea of a good pirate show, if it is that. Watched the 4th episode of Shogun tonight. The show isn’t getting enough credit for being hilarious. And last night I finished the first season of: Solid show, 7/10. Regularly made me laugh, loved a lot of the design. Will definitely check out the 2nd season. You could put Walton Goggins and Kyle MacLachlan in almost anything and I’d watch it.

Yes! Our local Regal theaters are having a showing on 5/19. They had a Chinatown showing about 2 weeks before that 4K disc was made available for pre-order, was already thinking the same might happen here. -
Multi Retailer The Departed (4K UHD Steelbook) [USA]

Yeah, I ordered it too but was never thrilled with the look even before I knew it was matte. I just hope the movie looks good, makes the upgrade worthwhile. -
This is exciting:

I had pre-ordered the Paramount Presents version of the upcoming Once Upon a Time In The Old West 4K, found a much cooler version today and it’s only $8 more. Same thing with Chinatown. I’d been wondering if anyone was going to do that. I really like most of the movies that Paramount has chosen for that series, but often wished for a slightly cooler physical presentation. The films themselves look great. Hustle & Flow in particular was a huge upgrade. -

That’s awesome, you’ve got me thinking of looking for old projectors now. I think I’d only draw the line at collecting celluloid, strictly due to the fire risk (otherwise I’d probably try it). I actually have an old discman from back before you could get a CD player mounted in your car. The kid loves that. And we once took a small boombox in the car so he could continue listening to my old They Might Be Giants Flood cassette in the car (which was too new to have ever dreamt of a cassette deck). -

My son, now 13, just instinctively loves physical media. Especially vinyl, but discs as well. He goes further than I do; ever since he found my copies of the original Star Wars trilogy on VHS, that’s how he wants to watch them. I even try to talk him out of it! No dice. -

Had to cancel my Seven 4K pre-orders this morning. *Sigh*, see you in 2025, Seven. -

Anyone here watching Fallout yet? I’ve never played the game but I’m hearing good things about the show, and Walton Goggins is money in the bank as far as I’m concerned. -
Have watched three episodes: Really enjoying it. Will take a while to get through it, watching with a friend and am sworn to hold off until we can watch together.

I hate to give Criterion all of my disposable income for July, but sometimes you gotta say “what the f***”.
-
Total nostalgia purchase. I must have watched it 10 times between the ages of 6 and 8, haven’t seen it since:
-
Possibly even cooler: I have an irrational amount of love for this movie.
