In fact, as an absolute Steelbook enthusiast, I'm not an overly big fan of the mostly significantly overpriced Mediabooks.

However, it is a popular way for retailers in Germany to squeeze as much money as possible from buyers of physical media with comparatively little production effort.

Moreover in many cases it is the only way to get a German dubbing, which only a few international releases include.

 

However, some media books are at least nicely designed, which in my opinion applies to Hellboy II

as well as to the following one of a non-high budget, but fine film:
