Good afternoon, everyone.

 

Today I couldn't connect and greet you in the morning for a very simple reason. I'm going to tell you about a T-shirt.

"Fariña", known internationally as "Cocaine Coast", is a TV series that we have already talked about in the English thread.

 

It's the true and realistic story of how the Galician coast in Spain became the main gateway for Colombian cocaine into Europe in the 1980s, until early 1990s, with illiterate local fishermen becoming major drug lords. But in its own way: it doesn't have the glamour of "Narcos", it's less cool, because they were ruder people, and at the same time more authentic, simpler, and also more comic. And the series -even in that- is more realistic, like when they came up with the clumsy idea of hiding hundreds of millions in a water container... until it started to rain.

 

Many of the real characters are still alive. One has recently re-entered prison. He's still in business.

 

The series was a total success in Spain, and I know it has been successful on Netflix in several countries. And among the merchandising of the series, there was this T-shirt.

 

The legend refers to the reflection of the sons of those illiterate fishermen, when in order not to have to go fishing like their parents, and also earn more money, they turned to the drug business even if they didn't like it: "O que teño que facer para non ter que ir ao mar", or what is the same: "What I have to do to not go to the sea".

 

In fact, underneath the shirt letters there is a boat, and how they passed the drug to a car or a van, before it was distributed throughout Europe.

 

And that's what I had to do today.
