  1. Dear @extantsrevenge I would like to humbly apply for this award. I’m not sure I can link directly to my posts, but I have a bunch of stuff on this page: https://mediapsychos.com/topic/604-show-us-all-your-latest-group-buy-or-other-receptions-steelbookdigibook-digipack-collectors/page/609/ 3 or 4 on this page: https://mediapsychos.com/topic/604-show-us-all-your-latest-group-buy-or-other-receptions-steelbookdigibook-digipack-collectors/page/605/ 1 on this page: https://mediapsychos.com/topic/604-show-us-all-your-latest-group-buy-or-other-receptions-steelbookdigibook-digipack-collectors/page/606/ 1 on this page: https://mediapsychos.com/topic/604-show-us-all-your-latest-group-buy-or-other-receptions-steelbookdigibook-digipack-collectors/page/607/ I think I have more but unless I misunderstand the rules, that’s enough? Anyway, hope I’m doing this right, thanks for your attention!
  2. Pretty good piece on The Exorcist (there’s a link to James Baldwin writing about the movie, which I wasn’t aware of): https://www.theringer.com/movies/2023/10/5/23903327/the-exorcist-50th-anniversary
  3. Man, I fell into it again. Big stack of 4K movies from the last few months that I want to see, but The Exorcist must be watched! So I’m watching it for at least the 10th time in my life. There are fuzzy moments but overall it looks incredible in 4K so far (I’ve taken a pause after the section where the movie is being filmed). Closeups on Von Sydow’s hands, and they really look like the hands of a guy who’s been working dirt for months. Incredible. Barry Lyndon looks amazing, I think the way Kubrick insisted on natural light really works. But I’ve currently got it on a list of movies that I love (with PTA’s stuff, Coen brothers movies) that I’m not going to watch again until 4K drops. I’m stupid excited over Fargo dropping in November, ordered the Shout Factory edition that comes with a snow globe
  4. I don’t recognize that one but just FYI, there’s a Gremlins steelbook dropping next week. Think I ordered it from Zavvi.
  5. Ok, so I’m just reading up on the awards. I’m pathetic and not eligible for most, but I think I’ve dropped more than enough stuff to be available for the Everything New Is Shiny Award! To whom do I appeal? It’s not that I crave recognition, just feel kind of pathetic with completely empty space under my name
  6. I wouldn’t put it in the top tier with Sopranos, Breaking Bad, but just below those. I don’t watch a lot of series anymore either, mostly movies. For much of the first season, it feels like episodic, independent stories, then it finds its footing and takes off in the last few episodes of season 1. Walton Goggins is excellent, the best thing in the show. After the show becomes more about the conflict between his character and Timothy Olyphant’s character, it gets great. Probably goes without saying, but if you have any kind of taste for Elmore Leonard (originally based on a story of his, and kind of has that spirit throughout), or that kind of crime fiction generally then you’ll probably love it.
  7. I thought she was very good in Justified as well. Very convincing as a Kentuckian (I’m originally from there).
  8. Meant to say “with his grandparents”; clearly I’m his parent. You know, I’m pretty sure; haven’t had a paternity test but I feel like I’m on solid ground.
  9. Days after Wicker Man viewing, still have this song stuck in my head. Sneaky great music work in that movie, in terms of enhancing the film.
  10. I’m saving this one to watch with my 12 year old, seems ok for that age. He’s spending fall break with his parents so we’ll probably get to it next week.
  11. I can say this now that you’ve seen half. We speak of it as a horror movie, and it certainly is, but it spends most of its time being about a nightmarish experience for any parent, not necessarily in a stereotypically “scary” way. Something terribly wrong with your child, and no one has any answers. All of that medical stuff is almost as terrifying as the devil especially, again, for a parent. People forget, but the devil doesn’t fully take over the girl *or* the movie until the halfway point or later.
  12. Please stop releasing things that I must own! I’m closing on a house, Christmas is coming up, and my wallet is making noises like Dustin Hoffman in the dentist’s chair in Marathon Man! I will buy this, in the finest edition available, as soon as it’s possible to do so. Maybe I’ll change it to George Kaplan.
  13. Not directly a response to this (I’ve only ordered a few steels from Amazon and I’ve been lucky), but suspect you or someone may know the answer to this: why did Zavvi UK stop shipping to the US? I only started collecting 4K earlier this year, immediately ordered several things from them. Now it seems I can’t because they don’t ship to the US? Very frustrating. I may just be doing something wrong, of course (I’ve left a trail of stupid questions all over MP, as evidence of my penchant for not knowing how to do things properly ).
  14. Is that gif from a movie? Looks almost familiar but I can’t place it.
  15. Snapshot from IMDb. The 1997 and 2002 ones have almost identical plot descriptions. Actually looks interesting.
  16. Humor, especially based in culture as opposed to, say, slapstick just doesn’t travel well across cultures sometimes. I haven’t even seen Barbie yet but it looks like not just a pure product of American culture but something that’s ironic in its approach to that very specific thing, which puts it at even more of a remove in terms of people from other cultures getting the joke. If that makes sense.
  17. Oh, and I guess I’m careful of the tastes of the person that I’m recommending it to, but: if a person has enough of a taste for Cronenberg that they enjoyed Dead Ringers and Crash, I recommend Crimes of the Future as a good October choice. Not a horror movie, I guess, but there’s horror *in* it.
  18. You led me to look up Perfect Blue on IMDb and now I’m wondering: which version did you already see? The Lynch mention has me wanting to watch Lost Highway as an October option. Picked up the Criterion 4K when it came out, as a movie I loved when it originally released, but never made my way to watching it. I think it’s time.
  19. I’m envious. I wish I could experience The Exorcist for the first time again. Not just a great horror movie, a great movie full stop.
  20. Hadn’t noticed this thread! I reviewed Wicker Man in the wrong place; lesson learned Now I have all these reviews to catch up on.
  21. I’m hoping to get home today and find some Film Vault goodies from the UK, to post pictures of in the other thread . So good, at the moment, while I’m still hopeful about finding loot later.
  22. My mother took my son to see it and they both love it. I’m trying to settle for a steelbook to keep myself from spending a fortune. For once.
  23. I’m expecting a huge reaction for Oppenheimer. Hoping for a set that includes replicas of Fat Man and Little Boy
