  1. News from Birnenblatt

    Quote

And for you English guys my translation:

    Quote

There could be a slight delay regarding the "Get Out" Mediabooks (we are delivering a bit later than planned).

Covers B and C are still available at Media Markt and Saturn. To protect the units, we are currently repacking them for both shops.

Not sure what to make of it - to me it seems that they misstrust the shipping of MediaMarkt/Saturn? We'll see when it finally gets here. They also included a new picture of the Mediabooks. Enjoy:

Hi mate if your referring to the dawn of rhe dead boxset this is packed in a box ready to ship to thomas once i can send out of the uk. at the moment shipping out isnt very good so as soon as i can ship and given the green light i will be sending to thomas

Yes, I was referring to that release. I was just irritated because I also didn't get a invoice or anything, yet. So I wasn't sure if I first needed to do something. Nice to hear that it is already save and waiting to be sent out. I have no problem waiting for it, we all know there are some hard times now, and of course I also know that shipping to and from UK is impossible right now. But knowing you already have it ready to sent: Perfect.

What I am now wondering though: That means you already paid for it and are now sitting on the costs, am I right? If I can already pay for it (partially? without the shipping? etc.), please let me know. I don't know the exact processes, but I also don't want anybody else putting up so much money upfront not knowing when to expect it.

  3. Hey you guys, and hey  @blu.steel33 and @ukade2327 (you should be tagged for any question, right?)

I just wanted to ask the status of my order - not to pressure you or anything, but for me to make sure, I did everything right up to now, as I've been only doing FAC GBs with forenhase the entire time here :D

I've placed my order a month ago (for an in-stock item), and haven't heard back since. I've just seen that I've been added to the list. My question is: I shouldn't have gotten active yet, or should I? Up to now I've been waiting for a PM or something of sorts telling me what to do next (i.e. where to send my hard earned cash to). That is right, isn't it?

Thanks in advance for all the effort and time you put in, and for making it possible for me to get something I otherwise couldn't!

Sorry only Steelbooks @pygospa No Digi or Mediabooks allowed! 😡

Seriously though that looks to be the best release for this movie. It is really really awesome just from the pictures. We don't get anything much like that in the USA. I am sure in person it is very impressive. I'd trade the ML OC for that anyday.

Yes, I think so, too. Even the most stunning Steelbook has a hard time comapring to this. But that's just for now - let's see what Manalab will do with the one click and how it will look in hand. I have great confidence in what they do, so let's see....

Oh, but of course - I'll never post a non-Steelbook never again. I'll promise 😇😈😇

Hahahahaha i also wanted to have it after seeing pictures of somebody else. Was not aware at all it existed 😄

Was already OOS when i bought it for 120eur, but now the prices are way too high on ebay

And THAT is why I post these :D I so often overlook editions and never know what exists. I'll of course always check those databases (we have the German bluray-disc.de one, plus of course the more extensive blu-ray.com) but they also don't show everything out there. So many times I get surprised by something I never even know existed.

And congrats to hunting it down for 120€. That was the original price of it. Just checked it in my Excel list, I paied 119,99€ when pre-ordering it on July 2017. So that was a really great deal you manage to get. It hardly ever happens, once things get OOS these days....

You seem easily offended and a tad aggressive...

I wouldn't say I am - I was just irritated and was wondering, what you intended to say. Most people also don't collect Hammers, or prefer Amarays, still we've also seen people share their replicate Drive Hammers and Amarays of the movie in this thread. I just wanted to chime in with the release I find most attractive because it's something different (as is the OC which I also mentioned). Just if anyone is interested and loves to see what else is out there, that's all. So I found it rather aggressive to get an answer in "telegram style" saying "no steelbook. but that's what we collect". But maybe I've misread or misjudged your intention. I just love seeing pictures of other peoples collections and love sharing mine. If I had more time, I'd probably had just opened a separate thread but seeing how the discussion here also already included pictures of other releases, I just joined in ;) And yes, I know what the majority of this site likes most, I've been rather actively reading and posting this forum for the last three years now - still no one ever before groused about something not being a Steelbook, which is why I didn't get what you wanted to say (i.e. just because it's not a steelbook you think I shouldn't post it?!)

    13 minutes ago, Konan said:

that said, guess what, i am not a steelbook person at all ! I am more into digipacks, digibooks, mediabooks and special limited editions.

I love collecting all different kind of releases. A Steelbook can be absolutely stunning and beautiful, but focussing on collecting  just one package type makes a collection rather dull and uninteresting. Some of my favorite editions are Steelbooks, but I also love Fullslips (regardless if with Steelbook or Scanavo Keepcases), Digipacs, Digibooks, obviously also Mediabooks, and anything that is special in any way. And I love seeing others share their editions with us as well. At least for me that's what forums have always been all about: Sharing the beauty of editions and the passions we have in collecting them. That's all what I've been doing the past years and that's all I wanted to do in here as well.

So I shouldn't post about anything else, or what are you planing to say?

I just shared my opinion on this release. I am not too excited about the Steelbook, at least from the renderings it is not my favorite. Since today I haven't seen a Steelbook that is better than the one Mondo X did. Which is why I wasn't too excited about this title. Then I saw the Fullslip and thought to myself: "Wow. That's something I've never seen - I want that one!". And now, I'll rather have the OC, if I could get one. If I can't, well, that's live. And there are releases that I'd rather get, that I think provide more "value" for me ;)

  7. Reading about this I actually wasn't too psyched, as I already own three copies of the movie, plus there is still one version I am on the lookout for (the Mondo X one), and though the movie is really good it is not my favorite movie, where I need every copy ever made. So, when seeing the first pictures, I decided to go with the Full Slip, as this is something really stunning, and something never seen. BUT reading about the OC, I now changed my plans 🙈 I'll try my luck in getting the One Click via the website (I usually always buy directly, and seen that you are already contemplating if you actually can secure enough copies, I guess you'll be happy that I don't add on your burdens :D ). I always order directly wherever possible just because then it's less of a hassle, fewer points where something could go wrong and if something does, I can solve it directly without involving third parties. But that's just me :)

Anyways, I digress. What I actually wanted to share with you, is why I believe that I already own the best of the best you could get for this film: It's the One-Click box from Birnenblatt, it has 3 different Mediabooks, all with never before seen artwork, the Box itself is stunning, and the star inside is the padded Mediabook - the first and only padded Mediabook I absolutely love and where I think padding makes sense.

Oh, and it also includes the Soundtrack on CD, which is another plus for this release :)

That being said I’m not actually enthused on getting into another label like BILDSTÖRUNG because (& no offense) of their non-English booklets...

None taken! I totally get that, and I guess I'd feel the same in your position. Let's put it like this: I also often buy Asian releases, and when there's a booklet that's just in the native language I am also a bit disappointed. However, those editions normally make up for any insufficiency (i.e. exclusive and stunning steelbook artworks, beautifully designed fullslips, cards, etc.). I don't care at all if it's English, as I can understand it, and I'd also be intrigued if it was en francais, quoique mon francais est tres mal. Y tambien hablo un poco espanol. But yeah. If the edition was so great that I'd love having it, I'd go for it and scan it, run text recognition on it and feed it to Google, I guess. But if the text is important to you, then these are definately not the best releases to get, as the rest of the package is not as special compared to something like the above mentioned asian releases.

So I totally get where you are coming from!

  9. I've been a bit more quiet the last weeks, mainly due to the typical seasonal stress (I did some photos though, but never got around posting them, from all my updates from December), and this year I am working on a new project and putting lots of my free time and energy into it, so I'll have to slow down a bit on presenting you editions. But I feel for the vast majority this won't be such a loss anyways, I know there are some fans of the Wicked and Anolis releases and I'll happily keep you up to date on anything new in that regards. But most of my other posts are rather overlooked anyways - which is of course fine - I am aware that I am talking about a nieche and I am doing it in a forum that mostly accomodates people collecting current mainstream titles of blockbusters that get released in 5-10 different premium releases :D So no hard feelings, or anything. It's just, that I feel like it's a waste of time, if I put that much effort into titles that hardly anyone is interested anyways. So, I'll try out something new :D

1.) I wont post too many news anymore, just the ones I know that other people are excited about, or the ones that I am really excited about. It's a bit different to what I did before, which was trying (and the emphasis is on trying) to present every premium edition that I would be getting. That's what I was trying to do with all my posts in the Mediabook, Special Edition, Steelbook, etc. sections, if they weren't already posted by someone else (which for most of the super duper Filmarena/MantaLab/NovaMedia/etc. is hardly ever the case, but as not many people collect the Mediabooks and other special packages, I always had more than enough time spent in those forums). And maybe I'll also shorten the format, though I really love having all the information in one place (both, about the release [including info about all the bonuses and how the release compares to other international releases], as well as the movie, and why it's worth a watch), but looking these up, getting all the trailers, plus the information on different releases and translating all the info we got from the label plus including links to the shops and also find and add high res cover artworks - it just takes ages to compile.

2.) I also won't post all my updates anymore, in this place. I used to in the old German forum, and I tried to do so here, in the beginning as well as with a bit more focus last year. But again, it just takes too much time, and I already shortened the format here, but that also still takes too much time. So sorry for anyone who is seriously following my posts in this thread - but again, just judging from the reaction, it's not more than ~5 people anyways, so probably for the vast majority no loss.

And I can really put this freed up time into good use for my new projects (and just in case you are wondering: (1) I need some me time :D  Yeah, that sound's cheesy, I know, but having been to hospitals or doctors the last half of a year at least once a month, you start evaluating things, and start putting your focus on different things, like living healthier, loosing weight, and (2) I have a HUGE list of things I always wanted to try out and/or learn, but never "got around to doing", so for this year I've decided I want to focus more on these things and the first thing I am trying out is YouTube [however it is not movie related, but rather a "me losing weight and sharing my wisdom vlog" (and in German)]).

HOWEVER, movies are my passion, and collecting things is my passion, and so naturally collecting movie editions and talking about them in great detail is something that my heart still beats for, so I won't be gone ore anything, it will just be more concentrated on fewer things. And for this post to finally get back to movies, I am going to talk about a label that I've already discovered years ago, that does some really awesome editions, but that hasn't been talked on this forum to this day! And I think it's a shame, so I am changing this, because today I received another order from them including four movies - normally I would open up a thread for each movie and pull out all the information on the release, the other releases, the movie, etc. plus add all the information on the label and what to expect - I am not doing this, but rather just present you the label here, tell you what makes them special, and list the movies (plus pictures) that I bought.

So let's stop the wining and get to it, then: BILDSTÖRUNG is a German label that was founded in the last decade, and had their first release (if I am not mistaken) in 2008. From their first release on they started with a mission, which was to not concentrate on the mainstream, but to look at the movies on the edge, movies that where told differently, that experimented, that tried to develop new styles and that had their own vision of what film could be and what film is capable of. These movies, in the definition of the label, disturbed the homogeneous picture of mainstream that just presented things that the majority wanted to see, which is why Bildstörung chose it's name - it can be translated as "image interference".

In their catalogue, that in the past 12 years grew to 37 releases, they totally concentrated on these movies, movies that where ahead of their time, and that - by sheer existence - even sometimes managed to direct the mainstream into a different direction. Or so they say ;)

What's interesting about this label is that from the beginning on, they understood how different they where and tried to portrait this individuality in their releases, not only by collecting some of the most outstanding movies from around the world, but also by how they presented them. The releases in their collection are called "Drop Out", and bear a spine number, each Release comes in a Fullslip-like thin slipcase, but even in 2008 they already understood what collectors like, so the slipcases themselves come with something that can be best described by "dust jackets" like you have them with books. These dust jackets have all the nastiness like the blue stripe you'd had to have, or the FSK logo, amongst other things, while the Fullslip remains absolutely clean in artwork, and looks stunningly beautiful. In GERMANY! As soon as 2008!!! While others where printing the FSK seals on their slipcovers!!! But that's not all: These Slipcases open in the wrong direction, i.e. when you face the front cover upwards, the opening is on the left. If you know Blufans, it's exactly the same thing. Inside you always get a clear transparent DVD-sized Amaray. G1, from the beginning, up till now. The Coverartwork inside is often a large scenary image, or some portraits, etc. and just that, no text, or anything. Therefore if you open those up, you ALWAYS get a booklet that makes up for the missing text on the Amaray cover. And it's always (as far as I know) a dual disk set, sometimes even three disks, but always the second disk is a bonus disk, sometimes even a Soundtrack.

After their first 10 movies (Tras el Cristal, Bad Boy Bubby, Marquis, ¿Quien Puede Matar a un Nino?, La Bête, Possession, Overlord, Valerie, Arrebato, De bruit et de fureur) they switched to Blu-ray, with their first release in 2011: "Clean, Shaven". They conntinued their line as if nothing happened, only that now you could choose between a DVD or BD-release, that basically look identical with the only difference being the Discs (of course) as well as the dust jacket design to distinguish them. Two of their old releases have gotten a BD-release as well (La Bête and Possession), the others we don't know if it'll ever happen. However if the release sells out, Bildstörung (in the past) has released so called "budget" versions, that would just include the Amaray with the main movie disk, without the extras for a much cheaper price (10€ vs. 20€ for the first pressing) with a reversible cover (without all the nasties on it). Oh and one more thing: If you order with them directly, you'd usually also get some goodies (as long as they have them on stock): High quality photo-postcards, or poster artwork postcards, sometimes even foto-quality high-gloss cards.

And as you maybe have already seen: Their movies come from all around the world. You'd get movies from Czech, Russia, Hungary, France, Germany, Brazil, Mexico, Greece, Belgium, Italy, India, Serbia, the Soviet Union - yes, even countries that do not longer exist.

There are of course a lot of movies that look totally strange, so I never got into digging in on everything they have, but I found some movies that had some great recommendations in their catalogue, and so I placed two orderes with them and also collected some other titles from local retailers when they where on sale, or cheap used copies.

Here is what came in today, and I took some photos of them with the dust jacket, without the dust jacket (some have a list of titles they already released on the back side), as well as every edition in detail. I also took the time to get out all the other titles I own to make a group picture, however I did not do any detailed pictures. My current order included:

    • Drop Out 019: Henry - Portrait of a Serial Killer
    • Drop Out 035: The Wild Boys
    • Drop Out 036: Baby Blood
    • Drop Out 037: Komm und Sieh

And I already had those titles in my collection:

    • Drop Out 006: Possession
    • Drop Out 024: Coherence
    • Drop Out 025: Es ist Schwer, Ein Gott zu Sein
    • Drop Out 029: The Eyes of my Mother
    • Drop Out 033: The Friendly Beast
    • Drop Out 034: Luz

Before I post the pictures, if you've read so far, let me know what you think! I feel like it is one of the very few labels that could compete with all the wonderful boutique labels out there (like Criterion, pH Indicator, Eureka, etc.), and I could imagine, that there is a similar fanbase, i.e. people who like those labels could easily be won for this label. Do you like the releases? Something you might even consider getting? And out of their 37 releases, which one would the first movies be, that you'd get, i.e. what are your top x picks, regarding the lineup?

    And now, without further redue:

  10. You're welcome, and thanks for the reply. It's always nice to hear that the work one puts into creating all these pictures and collecting all that information gets appreciated! Sometimes it feels like you put a lot of work into these posts and forums and no one really cares... So thank you very much! :) I am always happy if I can create some value for some fellow collectors out there!

  11. Out of all the announcements that I have seen this year for 2021, this is the by far most exciting news I have read, and I am absolutey happy about it. You cannot believe it. I started screaming, when I read it, and my girlfriend came running because she was wondering, what had happened. If you've read my other posts, you might already know, that I am an excited and passionate collector of the Anolis Hammer series, since I bought my first release end of 2015 (The Brides of Dracula). I was late to the party, so to speak, but over time I managed to get all their releases together, preordering everything that was new, as well as having an eye out for all the releases that I've missed. Believe it or not, I had them complete by half a year - with three exceptions: the very first three: TWINS OF EVIL, CURSE OF THE WEREWOLF and QUATERMASS AND THE PIT. I had them on every search alert possible, I've been annoying all the groups and forums etc. with search inquires, and I already lost hope, when in 2019 I finally got the two easier titles: TWINS OF EVIL and CURSE OF THE WEREWOLF for 40€ each. That was an absolute bargain, which I hadn't expected (my absolute maximum for these Mediabooks is 50€ a piece). QUATERMASS AND THE PIT, however, which was the highest demand on my list, I couldn't get up to now, 5 years of intensive searching.

So this feels like a huge and massive relieve :D FINALLY! I would have preferred the Cover A, to be quite honest, and I'll still keep an eye out. But finally, I have them ALL TOGETHER. Plus, I can watch all the Quatermass movies in chronological order :D

This is the absolute best news for me!

  12. Release: Feb. 2021

    Link: ???

    Price: ???€

On Dec. 20th, 2013, a year after promising three titles for that year on Dec. 24th, 2012, Anolis finally released their very first title: QUATERMASS AND THE PIT. Being their very first release, they've decided to bring this release in a quite small limitation, only one cover artwork (in a rare artwork). Given that they've already released this title on DVD, Anolis was probably not prepared for how fast this would sell out: It was gone on Jan. 7th, 2014, just 17 days later, out of which in Germany 5 are national Holidays (Dec. 24th - 26th, and Dec./Jan. 31st and 1st) and 6 days where weekends. Anolis rethought their strategy and started releasing two cover artworks instead of one (especially as they already realized the really high demand for their next title, TWINS OF EVIL, plus a rather vivid discussion regarding their first cover artwork, that did not meet everyones taste), and they upped the limitation. Unfortunately, for understandable reasons, Anolis never reveals how high the limitation actually is, but it was no secret, that QUATERMASS AND THE PIT has probably by far the lowest number of units in all the Hammer releases Anolis did. And so, this DigiBook is probably one of the most sought after releases, with prices usually never below 200€ (e.g. right now, there is just one offer on eBay for a sealed copy with bidding starting at 220€ or a buy now option for 310€, and on Amazon there are two sealed copies for 218€ and 270€, as well as one used copy for 221€).

When finally finishing the Quatermass Trilogy this year with the last missing film QUATERMASS 2, a couple of people asked for a re-release of QUATERMASS AND THE PIT, and now finally, Anolis gave in. This is the first time in the history of Anolis that they are doing a second edition of one of their collectors releases, and they are justifying it with the small limitation the original release came with. To not anger anyone, this second release will come in a different cover artwork, and count as the Cover B of our No. 1 release. The artwork is btw. nothing new (remember the rare one was the first release), but was actually already used by Anolis when they had this title released in their "Hammer Edition" series on DVD:

    das-gruene-blut-der-daemonen.thumb.jpeg.22d3a7df14a7fe806608618a1d1702eb.jpeg

However, if you look carefully, it is a bit different. The DVD cover was more zoomed in (see the arm on the left, where it's cut of right after then hand, or the breast on the right that is nearly touching the corner), and a few details are different, e.g. when you look at the two men on the left, you have different buildings. And of course the most evident: The devilish shadow in the background. I do think the cover is a much greater improvement, especially also the color of the title that is in blue and thus in tone with the artwork.

Anolis did not tell anything about the release itself, but given that it is a second edition that will not do anything different than the first (except for the cover artwork), we already know what we can expect:

The audio will be German (2.0 Mono) and English (2.0 Stereo DTS HD Master Audio) with optional German subtitles. We'll also get a couple of extras:

    • Audio commentary with Roy Ward Barker and Nigel Kneale
    • Audio commentary with Dr. Rolf Giesen (German)
    • Interviews with Judith Kerr, Julian Glover, Joe Dante, Markus Gatiss, Kim Newman and Markus Hearn
    • Super-8 version
    • Trailer, TV-Spots, movie program and picture gallery.

In addition there is a 28-paged booklet by Dr. Rolf Giesen and Uwe Sommerlad (also just in German).

And because this might be relevant to some: As this is the 2013 release (which is the earliest this got released on Blu-ray) it is probably the original HD master that was done of this release (and as far as I can tell that's a 2K scan). It was released in the same year in Italy and in Australia (as part of the "Hammer Horror: The Blu-ray Collection", as well as a single Blu-ray+DVD combo release), and two years earlier in the UK (Optimum Home Entertainment) - all Amarays, the Italian version with no extras, the UK variant with the same audio commentary and interviews, plus additionally the "World of Hammer Sci-Fi Episode" that this release misses, and the Australian edition with just the audio commentary and the interviews. Regarding these releases, the Anolis version was a good competitor.

However, over the years, there have been more releases, like a Steelbook by Zavvi in 2016 (no information on extras), and a Canadian and US release by Shout Factory. I could not find out anything regarding the master, but knowing that company, it could actually be that that one has a new master. Only thing I could find, is that it is also a 2K-scan, so maybe it's the same master (as Shout Factory would have probably gone for 4K if they already decided to do a new master, wouldn't they?). If anybody knows something about this, please add it to the discussion, it is definately highly appreciated. It does however come with two new audio commentaries, one with film historian Bruce G. Hallenbeck, and one with Constatine Nasr and Steve Haberman, and it also includes the old audio commentary, the Interviews and the formally only in the UK released "World of Hammer" extra. So if you don't care about the package and are more keen on extras, than that Shout Factories Amaray-release is the better choice - given you have a Region A player at hand ;) And regarding the cover, it actually features the exact same as this release will:

Enough about the edition, let's loose some lines on the movie (if you don't know it already): QUATERMASS AND THE PIT (in the US better known as FIVE MILLION YEARS TO EARTH) is a 1967 british sci-fi horror, and the final part of a trilogy that started with THE QUATERMASS XPERIMENT (1995) and QUATERMASS 2 (1957). All three movies are based on a BBC Television serial of the same name as the movies, focussing on the professor Bernard Quatermass, a pioneer of the British space program, who in his quest of bringing men into space finds himself facing evil aliens that threaten humanity. This last movie of the trilogy is the first movie that was not filmed in black and white but in color, and it is also the first of the three movies, that features another actor (Andrew Keir) as Bernard Quatermass (instead of Brina Donlevy). The plot stays true to the serial it is remaking: During extensions of the London Underground, a mysterious object is found next to pre-human remains that can be dated back to five million years. Quatermass identifies this object as a martian spacecraft and deduces that aliens might have influenced human evolution. But there is another danger lurking within this spacecraft.....

Let me close with not one, but two movie trailers, just because this is the second edition :D The first one is the original UK trailer, the second one the later US trailer (which is a bit more spoilerish, but also has the far better quality.

  13. First they had only two Mediabooks, then they revealed a third. Now, something really rare happend: Anolis is announcing yet another artwork, making Frankenstein the first non-Dracula-Cofin release that will actually come with four cover artworks. Here is the last one.

What do you think? I am torn between the third one and this fourth one. Probably will go with the fourth, I guess, because it looks a bit cleaner than the third.

  14. As usually, I'll add a mention for @Grendel and @Mad-martigan who I know of that they are collecting these and like to be kept updated. Of course, feel free to add mentions to whomever you know who also collects these or might just be interested in this particular release. Btw. I have to say, I am pretty pleased with this release, as I think the cover artwork looks spectacular. And I am interested to finally get to watch this movie - I've heard good about it and know that some people are actually waiting for this one. :)

It's somewhat a tradition for Anolis to announce upcoming releases on or around Christmas, and this year is not different: Six titles where either revealed, or teased, or had some additional information, we didn't know (e.g. cover variants). The first of this list is the announcement that their "Curse of the Gallery of Horrors" series will be continued as the first release they'll have planned for us in 2021, release date being the end of January (Wicked already lists it as the first shop in Germany, and they estimate the release date for January 29th). And it'll be the long awaited "The Deadly Mantis", as no. 5 of the list:

    1. IT! Terror from Beyond Space
    2. Donovan's Brain
    3. The Angry Red Planet
    4. The Night Walker
    5. The Deadly Mantis

There is no other information on the release yet, their "main announcement" (as they call their announcements that come up a week before you can order them at all the stores), we only get the picture of the cover. But of course there will be some bonus features. And given the overall series, we already know it will be a G1 (i.e. DVD-sized) Amaray, with two discs, the second one being a DVD copy of the Blu-ray, a booklet and the design of the series including the spine image continuation.

The movie is directed by Nathan H. Juran (The Black Castle) and based on a story by producer William Alland (Creature from the Black Lagoon). It stars Craig Stevens, William Hopper and Alix Talton. It tells the story of a giant praying mantis, that was trapped in ice for millions of years, until the explosion of a volcano finally manages to melt the North Pole ice. And once defrosted, it turns out, that the creature is still alive...

To bring the monster alive, in this black and white movie they actually built a 61m by 12m long papier-maché mantis, with a 46m wingspan. It was moved by a complicated hydraulic system. But besides they also had miniature models of Buildings and Cars, etc. that could be used, and for some shops they even used real living paying mantis that climbs around miniature buildings. Even though they had so many special effects, the movie itself wasn't well received during it's time and therefore got buried in oblivion.

While there will be some more information, Anolis already released the cover and Wicked already added it to their store for preorder.

  16. Is it possible to somewhere post a group buy directly for second sight? Or is anyone from Britain willing to get me one from second sight and forward it to me? I actually wanted to get this via amazon.co.uk, but then I was in hospital and afterwards I totally forgot about this release -.- Checking the sites, it seems like everyone that was sending to Germany is not having this in stock anymore, and resellers are asking far too high prices (~150GBP). However, Second Sight still has this in stock for original price.

    Hallo Gemeinde,

Danke Dir, lieber @thomue1987 ❤️

  19. Release: ???

    Link: ???

    Price: ???€

THE VENGEANCE OF SHE  is one of the rare non-horror Hammer productions, a fantasy genre movie directed by Cliff Owen and starring John Richardson, Olga Schoberová (credited as Olinka Berova), Edward Judd, André Morell and Colin Blakely. It was released in 1968, and was intended as a loose sequel to their 1965 film SHE. SHE is based on a novel by H. Rider Haggard, called "She: A History of Adventure", and though it was adapted plenty of times already (1899 as The Pillar of Fire, 1908, 1911, 1916, 1925 and 1935 all titled SHE), the Hammer dramatization in 1965 became a smashing hit, making $1,7 million USD on a £323,778 budget, and becoming the first Hammer movie to feature a female lead. Different to its predecessor THE VENGEANCE OF SHE is only a lose adaptation of the novels sequel, plus it did also not feature any of the Hammer stars (like Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee who both had roles in SHE) and had to replace the heroin Ursula Andress with Olga Schoberová, and in the end it was a rather badly received movie that managed to only make a third of its budget (the budget being £350,000) back at the box office.

It thells the story of Carol, a woman that is suffering from headaches which somehow lead her to the ancient lost city of Kuma. There she finds out that she is supposed to be the reincarnation of Ayesha (the main character of SHE), a dead Goddess and ruler of Kuma.

If you followed my postings, you might remember, that Anolis actually already released this movie as part of their 20 title series "Hammer Edition" on DVD. From todays standpoint maybe a rather odd collection of Hammer movies, that ranged from selected titles of many famous horror series like Dracula (PRINCE OF DARKNESS), Frankenstein (FRANKENSTEIN CREATED WOMAN, FRANKENSTEIN AND THE MONSTER), but also from sci-fi movies, like THE QUATERMASS XPERIMENT, adventure movies like THE VIKING QUEEN, fantasy movies like THE LOST CONTINENT and even comedy films like THE MEN OF SHERWOOD FORREST.

When Anolis announced their new Blu-ray series they first just called it "Hammer", and said that they'd release all their 20 titles again, as they still owned the licensing rights. Then everything changed, and after a long time with a redesign they came back and called this series "Hammer Horror". They have since released 13 of their previous titles, which are all predominantly horror movies. The only 7 of the DVD movies that where still missing where all the non-horror movies (THE VENGEANCE OF SHE, THE ABOMINABLE SNOWMAN, THE MEN OF SHERWOOD FORREST, A CHALLENGE FOR ROBIN HOOD, THE VIKING QUEEN, SLAVE GIRLS and THE LOST CONTINENT). It was so obvious that Anolis was tiptoeing around these clearly non-horror titles and only chose the horror titles, that people started wondering, if Anolis would only be concentrating on the horror movies (which makes sense, as they called their series "Hammer Horror"). And it is an interesting point, which we where even discussing in the forum, as this would mean that you could get the other movies from Indicator (for instance).

I guess this is the precedent case, where we have our first non-horror adventure movie: THE VENGEANCE OF SHE, implicating that Anolis is not backing away from non-horror titles, and also implicating that after already releasing a couple of non-Hammer Indicator titles in Germany as well, this could also be extended to movies such as THE SNORKEL, NEVER TAKE SWEETS FROM A STRANGER, CASH ON DEMAND, THE FULL TREATMENT, VISA TO CANTON, THE SCARLET BLADE, THE PIRATES OF BLOOD RIVER and many more. For me as a crazy completionist, that is a great outlook. As I of course love the Horror movies, I am still curious about the other genre films from which I've seen next to none. And given that there are 158 movies, and that since their first release, end of 2013, they only managed to release 31 movies, this will give them 35 more years to try and get them all to Blu-ray :D

As we don't know anything else yet, not even covers, I'll end this thread (for now) with a picture of their old artwork (they've regularly reused their old artwork from a DVD on their Blu-ray releases, so chances are that we'll see it on Blu-ray as well, and of course with the trailer for the movie. But I'll keep you posted!

Anolis plans just 2 Mediabooks, and a keep case. And as we can also see, no drawn covers, just two collages (which makes me really sad - I usually don't go for these covers and I also think they don't fit the rest of my Anolis Hammer collection at all - but well).

Uhm... Anolis? Are you here? Are you reading my posts? Anyhow, I am pretty happy, turning around the last cover card, I found this "updated" info on the next release:

    1599962513_20201219-145451-4763_200-4-1.7-21(copy).thumb.jpg.b37961440d44bd7cd965037197c4c011.jpg

The bad news, however: It won't be released this year (but that was somehow to be expected). Anolis postponed it to Febuary 2021. Hopefully they'll manage to keep the date.

  21. And a second set of pictures, this time from the separate mediabook I bought. The one that goes into the shelf with the others :)

Again it's a great mediabook, same design as all the others, but different to the edition that is included in the sarcophagus it comes with a cover card that has the FSK seal on it and a look at the edition up next: The Revenge of Frankenstein. Other than that, and the cover the inside should be totally identical. The booklet is really great once more, with a lot of different artworks and posters (from Catalan, France, Spain and the USA), lobby cards, behind the scenes photographs with autographs by the actors (2x Christopher Lee, as well as Suzan Farmer, Francis Matthews and Barbara Shelley -- that's a really neat thing), and if that's not enough, we get the British and the US Cut on different discs, with the GB edition having the British poster artwork and the US edition having the US poster artwork. That's some crazy attention for detail. The one I am really loving 😍

    Wonderful edition, through and through.
