Great pick up, great movie.  That November 50% off is hard to resist.  Every time someone posts a 4k Criterion I have to winge about all the spines that don't even have Blu-Ray releases.  My collection will probably always be stuck with a DVD of Grand Illusion due to lapsed licenses.

Are rights issues the problem with Grand Illusion?  I’ve wondered before why you don’t see a decent disc for a movie that’s pretty much universally acclaimed as one of the greats.

Finally, I could not resist this offering from Walmart as I love the movie. As others have mentioned, the lenticular effect of the trucks headlights are really nice.

 Got me some great Gundam Universal Century Libraries Editions from Japan on Black Friday. I already have the Gundam Series but sadly the releases ouside of Japan have some problems. The Original Series is not including Episode 15 outside of Japan and Mobile Suit Gundam Z is not including the Original Opening and Ending Songs because of licence issues outside of Japan, but issues I absolutely hated. Thankfully with the U.C. Libraries Series we finally got a Japan release that has english subtitles. These came out a while ago, but somehow they slipped my mind. Anyway it is perfekt timing since MSG is celebration its 45th Anniversary next year and now I can watch it in all its glory 😍

 

 

Also received these 4 new Mediabooks for Train to Busan, very nice releases with great artwork from a new German retailer.

Although not a real fan of Mediabooks, I like the clean look of this padded book with a pleasing glossy effect on both the letters and the protagonist.

I know some of this has been posted already but I’m going through the whole thing.

 

I think VS oversold the EXistenZ slip having a skin-like texture.  It’s a cool texture, but don’t know that it’s skin-like.  The first essay in the acccompanying book is excellent, referencing Neal Stephenson always wins me over.

 

Which brings me to The Prophecy.  No book, just the admittedly cool packaging.  Call me old fashioned but I appreciate reading material with my discs.  
 

I haven’t seen Prophecy or EXistenZ since the early 2000s, haven’t seen Prophecy 2 & 3 at all, looking forward to checking those out.

The complete Universal Century is available in these type of Sets. ZZ, V, 8th MS Team, 0080, Stardust Memory, Char, F91, Z Movies, Original Movie Trilogy. But these also have great US or UK releases, so no need to get them. Of course they would look great together in the same packaging type 😅.

 

I even read that the quality is supposed to look even better on the Japanese releases 😲. They do have more Discs. I will test that for sure.

 

Anyway I'm so happy to finally have both 0079 and Zeta UNCUT in the original versions in an english friendly release 🤩
