First off, two great menu screens.  Beautiful art on Lone Star.  The city kind of moves on the Mean Streets menu.

Btw, this is a sight that pretty much always makes me happy:

There was a conversation a while back about the Mean Streets transfer; it looks great!  This movie was always known for using reds well, and the first few shots in the bar look amazing.

I did successfully make it back to Lone Star, watched about 30 minutes, fell asleep.  Going to try to finish it here shortly, though I can’t wait too much longer before popping into work.

Those look amazing! I still need to get my hands on the 4K for Mean Streets.

Anyone here ever seen a Coffin Joe movie?  I guess it’s Brazilian horror.  Just curious; Arrow has a Coffin Joe set that looks amazing, and I have to admit that I had never even heard of these until today.

I haven't seen them yet, but ordered the Arrow Set. Coffin Joe is the the equivalent to the Boogeyman, and has been called Brazil's Freddy Krueger from what I read.

Yeah @Heywoodmoutaw @nathan_s82 it was definitely a heartbreaker as I think the Lions lost this themselves, but something good did come out of it as the 49ers are my second fav in all the teams that were left, they have a tremendous team…

GO 49ers!! 🏈

Should be a great Super Bowl as the Chiefs are an excellent team! 😑

This is a nice list.

I think it's an interesting challenge to lose the last 4 letters of the Gangster . . . Gang . . . what are your top Gang movies?  This opens it up to a lot more movies.  Gangs of New York, West Side Story, Donnie Brasco, Shottas, Set it Off, The Wild One, Snatch, Reservoir Dogs, on and on.  Much harder, there are a lot more gang movies than gangster movies.

Yeah, I was pulling hard for the Lions.  I really like the way that team plays.  I hope they dominate the NFC north for a while.

I'll be pulling for the 49ers.  It's a once in a lifetime chance to get a Taylor Swift heartbreak song about her man losing a Super Bowl.  I heard she started writing it right after the game last night. 🤣

(I considered this for my gangster movies but it didn’t seem quite right and didn’t make the cut).

Blood In Blood Out is a favourite of mine.

Would love to see the Director's Cut on blu-ray or 4K some day.

Sure did!

Short answer:

The Godfather > The Godfather Part II

Long answer:

Epic sequel, truly. Personally, I enjoyed the first one better, but absolutely loved Part II. My goodness it sure was a tragedy though.

Spoilers:

Spoiler

Watching the deconstruction of Michael's family unit because of a life he didn't necessarily want for himself was heartbreaking. I hated seeing how his kids were scared of him, how he treated Kay, and was absolutely wrecked that he had Fredo killed. I wanted to yell at him "stop! You're making the wrong decisions!"

It was so well done. Seeing DeNiro as a young Vito Corleone was a pleasant surprise! He nailed that role, I never once thought he wasn't the same character we saw in the first film. It was really interesting seeing how he made a name for himself, it added so much context to the character that I think rewatching the first film will be even more rewarding next time.

Minor complaint—I don't think the 4K discs are as good as they should be. I saw a lot of compression artifacts in Part II, the grain structure should've been much more solid than it was, and I feel like the HDR treatment is a little heavy-handed. I'd be curious to go back and check out the BD's that Robert Harris helped restore.

Good morning, all!

I am so stoked, as my 4K's for "Kindergarten Cop" and "Super Mario Bros." (1993) come in today. I am so pumped to see how well the transfers were handled!

there's a 4k for kindergarten cop? hits me right in the feels. my mom took me to see that movie when I was 5. idolized Schwarzenegger in my younger days. back in the 90's you could sit in the theater and wait for the next showing without being pushed out so we watched it twice. did the same for rocketeer.
