I have yet to see Eyes Wide Shut but I would die for a Premium of Barry Lyndon.

 

I think WCL would be the best for Premium of Barry Lyndon, as they did a magnificent job for "2001 Space Odyssey" ... no need a steelbook.

Love this movie, would be an instant buy.  All of Kubrick's movies are instant buys, really.

 

A ridiculous story . . . We were at a Kubrick retrospective, and the last day, the final movie, the big enchilada, was Paths of Glory.  The theater was packed, we got there early, nice big screen at Anthology Film Archive, ready to go.

 

Everything's quiet, place goes dark, screen flickers and opening credits start rolling . . .

Wait . . . what?  For many many seconds I thought, I didn't remember that Meryl Streep was in Paths of Glory? Embarrassing to admit.

The distributer had sent the print for Sophie's Choice instead of Paths of Glory.  It was amazing how long it took everyone to realize what was going on.  

 

There was a theater full of cranky New Yorkers losing their sh!!t.

 

 

They said we could stay and watch Sophie's Choice if we wanted.  Okay, okay, might as well, we got our money back, free movie, right?

Half the people left.

 

They started Sophie's Choice again, only this time it stops about 2 minutes in.  They announce the AFA director shut it down, they didn't have the rights to show Sophie's Choice.

 

 

Grumble grumble, and everyone started to leave.  Now, we're still sitting there, laughing at the absurdity, and the projectionist yells out from behind us, we still have Barry Lyndon from yesterday, how about that?  Hella yeah, we'll watch that again.

 

It turned out to be one of my favorite film viewing experiences ever.  There were only about 20 of us left, bonded by the surreal nature of it all, huddled in the sweet spot of the theater.  It was amazing.  Barry Lyndon is like a sequence of beautiful images from an 18th coffee table book.   And in that environment it felt like every image was meant for us.  

 

To this day, I still, subconsciously, look for Meryl Streep's cameo when I watch Paths of Glory.

I'm avoiding buying a lot of the Kino Lorber 4Ks in the hopes that retailers like WCL or Plain Archive pick them up and give them a serious premium makeover.

Now that is why Manta is in my top 3 Premium retailers 😍

 

One can (quite reasonably) argue that WeET make the best slips but when it comes to WEA steelbooks, Manta is pretty much unbeatable, save on very few occasions.

That steel is absolute perfection and now sits firmly among my top 5 favourite steels along with Manta’s Inglourious Basterds, Kimchi’s Pan’s Labyrinth, PA’s The Handmaiden and Play.com’s Godfather Trilogy.

2 steelbooks Mondo Marvel , and the amazing artbook from the director Guillermo Del Toro "Pinocchio" .  Titanbooks is one of the best publisher for Artbook !

 

Steels are Zero Finish with Spot Gloss. Pet Slip is really nice for Iron Man 3 but a bit too basic for Civil War. Not easy to take on picture the back Civil War steel.

 

Artbook Cover, as usual, great cover with spot gloss on front & back. If you're big fan for this director, go for it ... it's a must, there is so many pictures & sketchs, drawings ... 😍
