So I'm seeing people say James Cameron used AI to remaster true lies.  I hope this is not what they did for the physical release

I've seen some recent screenshots of these transfers and it looks like The Abyss, Aliens & Titanic got similar treatment.

They seem to have heavily applied DNR and added artificial grain to give it a more "modern" and "digital" look.

It results in the same over-sharpened and waxy look that plagued the 4K release of T2.

Sometimes the AI has a hard time distinguishing between shadows, facial features, etc. which can result in a distorted and uncanny look in some shots.

The comparisons are here: https://slow.pics/c/ADsTMAbS

Like many, this and the Abyss are grails for me. We've waited for so bloody long! Even if the DNR is a bit heavy, I'm sure they'll still look substantially better than the last time they were available on disc. Huge audio upgrades on them too ❤️

So excited for these releases as they'll be huge upgrades on my original DVD's!

I hated the artwork on the Abyss release to start, but it is growing on me a little now.

Still, I hope to see a boutique release for all of James Cameron's 4k films at some point in the future.

I think they really underestimated the demand for all of JC’s 4k releases

I’m at least glad it’s not the other way around! Hopefully yours comes soon.

Kind of shocked I’m about to say this, but I love the way this disc looks. It certainly isn’t perfect, it does vary throughout, but it’s significantly better than I expected. I actually do see very fine grain here. Detail levels are incredible. It seems to be when focus is soft or outright missed that it looks the most post-processed.
