Well it’s okay that these particular movies aren’t your cup of tea, every film can’t & won’t appeal to everyone. I do though have to give you some push back in your criticism of the films. Are the storylines deep? Not particularly. Is the action over the top & unrealistic? Yes, but in this franchises defense these criticisms can be applied to most action movies. Damn near all of them have simple plots & unrealistic action. Are these fair criticisms considering the genre these movies fall into?
 

Also you mentioned “rehashed formula”, this right here isn’t even an accurate criticisms of the films. Each film does have some of the same ingredients, but they are all uniquely different from one another which is one reason why they have been able to stick around & have continued success. Unlike most franchises of any genre this franchise has managed to keep some ingredients from the original & mix them with fresh ingredients creating new dishes that fans enjoy, & keep coming back for.

 

I could be way off base, but I believe the root of your reasoning for not liking these movies go beyond just weak storylines, & unrealistic action. I think even though you liked the first film, you didn’t connect to the characters strong enough to be interested in what happened to them pass the first movie, & there isn’t anything wrong with that. If you had really connected with the characters & the culture I believe you would have had more fun watching the sequels, & it would be easier to forgive those movies flaws.
