Update: Looks like I posted this in the wrong thread. Head here instead:

Original post: Whoa. The Digital Bits is reporting that Sony will be taking over Disney's physical media production. Should be good news, I think? Sony's discs are usually pretty excellent, and hopefully we'll see some stuff finally get pulled from the vault (looking at you, Fox titles)

Just came here to post this.  Surely we don’t have to worry about WB writing this one off for tax purposes?  I kid, I hope.

“The new January 2025 release date also allows “Mickey 17” to open in IMAX, which wouldn’t have been possible any earlier because all those dates were previously committed to other titles.”

I hope this means they’re convinced it’s going to kill in IMAX.  But March 2024 to January 2025 is a huge bump.

I mean that all sounds nice but I'd be lying if I said I had any real faith the ship can be turned around. I guess one can only hope things get fixed but I don't think Disney can get out of its own way. Deadpool 3 is the only one I have good expectations for but again fingers crossed.

I feel like I'm a smidge more optimistic about this, but only just. I hope Fiege can turn things around and get the MCU back on-track and focus on quality over quantity. Going back to two or three good films and shows a year is far more exciting to me than five+ subpar projects a year. I'm excited as hell for Deadpool 3, and it's been a long time since I could say that about a Marvel movie.

I bought The Marvels disc, just to have it in the collection, but have yet to muster up the enthusiasm to actually watch it. It took me quite a while to watch Ant-Man 3 and Guardians of the Galaxy 3, just because I was so fatigued on Marvel stuff. Ditto all the Disney+ Star Wars stuff, too. I spent years and years and years eating well on this stuff, but now I just feel stuffed and bloated and have no appetite for it anymore. (That said, I did recently rewatch Infinity War and Endgame just to have on while working out, and damn, those have held up nicely and blow the current crop of movies waaay out of the water it's ridiculous.)

Deadpool 3 and Fantastic Four have piqued my curiosity for sure, but the latter could go the other way depending on what they do with it and how they do it. Otherwise, it's just been too much to keep up with it for me and these projects haven't felt like they're even meeting me even halfway when I finally muster up the effort to give it a go.

Thunderbolts, Agatha and reshoots, featuring a lot of characters that most people aren’t familiar with, it doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence.  But I hope they pull it off.

well said man. couldn't have put it better myself. after endgame it took me a while to watch anything else marvel however slowly but surely I did so to play catch up and I'm sitting there watching these shows and movies especially the Disney+ offerings thinking to myself the criticism and concerns are valid. guardians was cool ant man was ok but I can see why people are saying the prior mcu installments were superior. Then you hear all the issues being had with the scripts when it comes to daredevil blade and Captain America all we can do is hope brother.

yup heard about that I want them to do well too but like you said doesn't inspire confidence. I'm open to a pleasant surprise though for sure

The massive retooling Daredevil under went gives a lot of hope. Karen and Foggy are back, and it sounds like D'Onfrio is much happier with the new direction. Apparently Bernthal turned down the offer to return as The Punisher based on the prior direction, but the revamp convinced him to come back, too. Sounds like they have a lot of the Netflix talent back on board this time around... makes you wonder why they weren't smart enough to do that the first time around, though. Hopefully that's a big lesson learned for moving forward.

I am definitely curious to see what they do with the Avengers flicks now, post-Jonathan Majors conviction. It's an easy role to recast given the very nature of the Kang character, so it strikes me as odd that they'd want to move away from their original plans. I'm still hoping for a Secret Wars flick with Toby and Andrew's Spider-men alongside Holland and Jackman's Wolverine and some 20th Century Fox X-Men someway, somehow. Guess we'll find out in a few years.

yeah how about that why not just keep the original writers for the netflix show but yes now that they are back hopefully they are given the freedom to be great. as you said them not recasting for Kang I thought maybe too much bad juju with the name being connected to Majors but then you hear rumors that perhaps Doom might be the next villain they move towards which if so man it better be right. I've been a Doom stand for years.

I certainly wouldn't turn away Doom. And goddamn, if Secret Wars is his introductory threat to the MCU, what the hell's he gonna do next?! 🤣

Kang was really intriguing in Loki, but they kind of screwed it up in Quantumania, pew-pew fisticuffs shouldn’t be a temporal master’s bag, in my opinion.  Though the comics kind of tended to do the same thing with him.

Really intrigued by an A24 Alex Garland war film.  Can’t wait to hear more.

James Brolin is one of those actors who just has great taste in projects and partners.  I’ve enjoyed practically everything he’s been in.

Julia Fox in Uncut Gems . . . oh my.  Really cool to see a combo of her, Poole and horror.
