To be completely honest, I keep forgetting about it entirely so hopefully that will help as I’ve given very little thought in terms of expectations 😄

I’m equally not expecting huge things from Guardians 3 either. I know these have something of a cult following now, especially with those who perhaps weren’t big Marvel fans before the MCU, but both Vol 1 & 2 took time to grow on me. There are moments where I find Chris Pratts portrayal highly amusing, but there are also moments I find him super frustrating feel he is just over acting and being a general C*ck.

I am looking forward to Quantumania but mostly to see Johnathan Majors bring it. And I am actually really looking forward to Secret Wars on Disney+ without trying to get too far ahead of myself. I have a feeling this is going set up some exciting questions. 🤞🏼

Spiderverse is one of my favorite films. I initially wasn't interested in it at all but I have a subscription to the local theater and decided to give it a shot one night and I was blown away. It's a really hard act to follow in my opinion.

As for the formal MCU, I'm so far behind on shows that I don't have any real expectations in terms of moving the phase forward. I think I'll like Ant-man because I don't walk in with high expectations for that franchise. I agree re: Majors ; he's one of my favorite actors right now.

So I’ve decided that my choice for next week will be William Freidkin’s Sorcerer.

    image.jpeg.e013f58aadd66875311096eb2abf9f79.jpeg

It’s adapted from the same source material as Clouzot’s masterpiece Wages Of Fear so it’s not, strictly speaking, a remake as much as another adaptation.   For my money, it’s just as good, but I’m curious what you all think.  Of course we don’t start till next week, but wanted to give you all a head’s up.  There aren’t any real premium’s out there, but the blu-ray is easy enough to find and it’s available for rent from the usual sources.

I was inspired to choose this since I’m awaiting receipt of the only quasi-premium edition I’ve ever seen for this movie thanks to @Fortis93.   Of course, I had to ask one of my French friends to help my with getting it, since the seller wouldn’t ship to the states.

I still need to watch The Way Back but this looks interesting. I love exploring some of these "older" films because it's not something I would do on my own.

Really expanding my horizons this last week… “Foodie Films”?! Never even considered such a thing. It a Whole New World! 😄👍🏼

"Foodie Films" is the technical term. They are also often found under the category of "Chewing Viewings" and, more colloquially, "Twix Flicks".

The adventure is just beginning my friend...

Yeah, I did.  It was pretty good, it's been a while though.  The social media component for some reason rubbed me wrong back then.  Don't remember why, that's my vague memory.  I imagine now I'd feel differently about it.  The food truck road trip was cool.

Maybe I misunderstood @GuyIncognit0, I thought he meant those more historical light dramas.  Maybe he did just mean food movies.  Anyway, Chef is a nice watch too.

    Chef is great.

I meant both, really. They're all good to me.

Sorry bud, I wish.  There is a nice little hook at the end that I wasn't expecting, not necessarily a twist, just a nice "historical" tie in. We really enjoyed it.  But again, it feels a bit like a palate cleanser, a pretty light but smart movie for in between two heavier or challenging films.

    (for the lurkers - Delicious (2021) )

I might move it to near the top of my list because I could really go for something like this. The foodie films are always so relaxing for me. The Hundred-Foot Journey is usually watched at least once a year in this house.

Oh this is fun, here's my list of walkouts:

    • Lucky You (2007)
    • Cats (2019)

My wife and I very nearly walked out of Ad Astra. Could not STAND that movie in theaters. Upon rewatch at home I've developed an appreciation for the moods it evokes, but it's utterly nonsensical in terms of plot.

I have since come to like Avatar quite a bit, but when I first saw it in 2009, I almost fell asleep in theaters.

I forgot about Ad Astra. I came VERY close to walking out of that one.

I honestly blame the marketing though. It was marketed as a completely different film.

  7. And I just realized I missed an entire page 🤦‍♂️

I think I've only walked out of two films...Basic Instinct 2 and The Green Knight. The latter I could have pushed through but my wife texted me with a family emergency. That being said, I was not sad to leave.

As far as turning off at home, Jungle Cruise and Spring Breakers are the two that immediately pop in my mind. I was surprised by Jungle Cruise considering the cast but my wife and I essentially did what you all described and agreed to turn it off. It wasn't grabbing us at all. Spring Breakers was just terrible. I turned it off but others convinced me to see it through a couple days later. I wish I just left it off.

  8. Wow, there is a lot going on in here right now.

@Casiusco Thanks for your detailed thoughts as always. I'm still wrapping my head around Avatar (having seen it twice) and agree with your point...to an extent. I need some time to completely formulate my thoughts and it's hard right now with my 4 year old constantly trying to talk to me.

@Reagh I'm glad I'm not the only one who found that film a bit overrated. I found it entertaining and loved the performances but it was a bit too predictable for me to rate it highly. I put it at a solid 3/5.

@BreakBeatDJ That sounds like a film I would really enjoy. Is there an American foodie film you can compare it to? Either way, I'm adding it to my list.

I don’t think there’s much in this trailer that you don’t already know from the first one and general knowledge of where the franchise is headed.

Well then maybe I'll take a little peek... 👀

'Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse': First Poster Arrives in this Multiverse

It's how you wear the mask that matters

Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar-winning Spider-Verse saga, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and now a brand new poster for the upcoming film has arrived. Take a peek at it above, featuring a bevy of Spideys — it's how you wear the mask that matters.

After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. But when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.

The film is directed by Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson, from a screenplay by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller, and David Callaham. The film is produced by Avi Arad. Amy Pascal, Phil Lord. Christopher Miller, and Christina Steinberg, with executive producers Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, Rodney Rothman, Aditya Sood, Rebecca Karch, and Brian Bendis.

The cast includes Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Jake Johnson. Issa Rae, Daniel Kaluuya. Jason Schwartzman, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez. Greta Lee. Rachel Dratch, Jorma Taccone. Shea Whigham and Oscar Isaac.

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse swings into theaters (and the Multiverse) on June 2, 2023.

I'm concerned at how much I'm looking forward to this film. I feel like I'm setting myself up for disappointment.

  10. I thought I just had a chance to see M3gan but had to turn around before I got there 🙁. Hopefully next week.

I quite liked this when I first saw it.  I’m sure it has t aged well.

This was my first viewing. I'm just not a Seth Rogen or Apatow fan. The 40 Year Old Virgin is probably my favorite of his but I think it has a lot more to do with Steve Carell than anything else.

There was a time when I enjoyed some of these comedies but I really grew tired of them after the Will Ferrell period (even during). They're all pretty much the same film. Rogen's films are a step lower in my mind since he so heavily relies on raunchiness and shock. I know I'm in the minority but I just find them boring.

  11. I need to catch up...

    • Stop drinking soda. If you must, drink Cheerwine.
    • @Reagh never post that bratwurst gif again
    • @BreakBeatDJ see Avatar in the best and largest format possible. I don't think anything is pushing it out of IMAX until Ant-man but it's something to look into.
    • Fabelman's is great. The last scene/shot is my favorite in the whole film.
    • @BreakBeatDJ you need a new hobby

    There. Is that everything?

  12. Challenge #15: Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it Snow

These are just some of the movie we like to watch every year...

    1 - The Grinch (2018)

    2 - Christmas Vacation

    3 - A Christmas Story

    4 - Home Alone

    5 - It's a Wonderful Life

    VsFy3wY.jpg

It's a Wonderful Life has been a Christmas Eve tradition for many years now so of course we watched it again this year. Christmas Vacation is another one and I look forward to my parents' hysterical laughing during the squirrel scene. Miracle on 34th St and White Christmas are two other that we watch every year.

All were planned and all were watched 😉

I'll try to get to challenge #16 later in the week 👍

For Jimmy Smith, Jr. (Eminem), life is a daily fight just to keep hope alive. Feeding his dreams in Detroit's vibrant music scene, Jimmy wages an extraordinary personal struggle to find his own voice—and earn a place in a world where rhymes rule, legends are born and every moment...is another chance. An excellent story that proves you can do it when you have to fight for your daily life and have the talent no matter what anyone tells you!

It has been a long, long time since I watched this one. I remember being impressed with his performance - hopefully I'll get a chance to rewatch this year.
