You SHOULD be happy about it that’s one of the most impressive hauls I’ve ever seen. That kimchi fifth element with milla jovavich on the cover is a stunner.

Loving the transition on that death proof slip, I don’t think I’ve seen a forwards and backwards tilt lenticular before. They both look top notch though, nova have knocked this release out the park.

Oh ok!!... Thanks for explaining that... Now that I'm getting all these classics I'd like to have them in 4K...
yeah I’ve only a few so far, this, ghost in the shell, and millennium actress. Violet evergarden the movie got a 4k release in Japan so hopefully other territories get too.

Awesome!!...
What do you mean by this exactly??..
I’d read many reviews and comments from people who watched it that it had undergone a fair bit of artificial sharpening or noise reduction (dnr), as is preferred by the Japanese market. This can make older anime that’s shot on film look closer to modern anime that’s shot digitally, but can cause a loss of detail. However, these people did point out it wasn’t a particularly bad example and seemed quite happy overall (apart from the disc replacement that was needed).
when I watched it just now it looked very filmic to my eyes with lots of texture, so either the dnr hasn’t been applied too heavily, it’s a different encode, or I’m just not seeing the faults people were pointing out. It looked great to me.

Hi @LeGonze, my Buddy; 🙂
There's certainly no race to win in catching up with both nostalgic titles and new releases my friend.
You quite literally, have the rest of your life to do so, heh.
There are a few 'classics' that I would suggest are worth at least an initial viewing but the genres within Anime are so diverse that one person's trash is quite often another person's treasure.
The titles I've listed are important to me but I know that some of them don't quite scratch the itch for others.
One way that you can get a brief exposure to some without having to lay out coin is of course, courtesy of Youtube.
There are a few noteworthy Anime Vlogers that offer good info and often, humorous reviews of titles both old, new and forthcoming.
Were I to recommend, I suppose I'd include;
- Gigguk
- Mother's Basement
- Glass reflection, and
- Super Eye-patch Wolf
as worth starting with.
Just type any of those names in the search bar and it will list their feeds.
As for LotGH, that at least I can clarify for you.
Legend Of The Galactic Heroes;
Considered by many a true "Classic" Anime, it a sci-fi series that provides essentially a true War In Space, with neither side actually horrendous baddies, but two very different considerations as to how colonization of space should proceed.
Our good friend @extantsrevenge is whom I would consider a true "authority" on the series and were you to prod him, I suspect he could address any queries you may have.
I would suggest at least starting with the Wikipedia page for it though, so that you have a basis for your queries.
I believe the series either was or possibly is, available via streaming service however, since I do not prescribe to any, I cannot guide you with that.
Sadly, the VERY limited (and pricey) Limited Edition for the original series, offered from Sentai is long sold out and unfortunately, a standard edition was never released.
I say "original series' because there has been a reboot that many folks say is very good indeed, titled ;
- Legend of the Galactic Heroes: Die Neue These
I've purchased the Japanese release of S-1 but honestly, do not know how far this new series has progressed.
As for the Original, I can at least provide a pic of the lovely Collector's Set that was released;
🥰
It’s a shame lotgh never got a standard release but it’s showing on hi dive in the uk so I’m going to give it a watch there, im also going to try and locate battle of the planets on disc, the first anime I ever watched.
I’ve just watched akira in 4k, the Korean release from ive and it looked terrific, much more of a healthy grain field than I’d been led to believe, perhaps it was less dnr’d than the funimation release.
Next up - samurai champloo and the 3rd and forth evangelion rebuild movies.

@Grendel @LeGonze @Trianna @Mattrivers95 @Squeegie McGee and everyone else.
I waited so long for this to happen. This series is directed by Hayao Miyazaki and is nothing short but a masterpiece. It is the only completly directed series by Miyazaki.
Special Features and Technical Specs:
- BRAND NEW 4K RESTORATION OF THE COMPLETE TV SERIES
- Japanese and English audio tracks, with English subtitles
- All 26 episodes spread across four discs
- 4K Restoration Promo Trailer
- Exclusive 16-page booklet featuring character artwork
Honesly guys do yourself a favor and order this now. I already ordered 2 (1 copy for my brother as well). Amazon purchase link
The series has everything you would expect from Miyazaki.
I'm so happy right now. First Evangelion on BR and now this
I’ve heard so much about this over the years, I really hope ATA pick it up for distribution over here, aren’t gkids doing this for North America? If so it’ll be shout factory doing the blu ray and they region lock everything, although I could just use my computer I suppose. Also, Italy are getting a lovely box set of this but I can’t find the link.

Good Afternoon @Mattrivers95; 🙂
Sorry I'm late responding. Without a flag, your post went unnoticed.
I'm happy to hear you were able to view NGE prior to plunking down cash for the new releases. It can certainly help in the decision making process of which ed to purchase.
I'm of the opinion you will probably be satisfied with the Standard ed however only you are in a position to judge, my friend.
As to your queries;
"Death(True)2" is a real mix-mash of edits and re-edits of the series and was essentially provided as a re-cap.
"Rebirth" was essentially a, "preview' of "End of Evangelion" which extends the final story into a proper fleshed out episode, to assuage the anger of some fans with the way the original show ended.
Neither "Death" nor "Rebirth" I would consider essential but "End of" I suggest, is. 😉
Hi thanks for responding. I’ve just finished watching it all all including rebirth. I can see why that ending was controversial, it’s very abstract isn’t it? I enjoyed rebirth quite a bit more but my dvd presents it in a windowed mode so I’m keen to watch it again on Blu ray. I’ve opted for the ce blu ray as this contains the adv dub/subs, I’m not too keen on the Netflix versions and I’ve grown quite attached already to the old voice actors. I’m now watching the rebuild series on Amazon and enjoying that too, once that’s finished I’ll watch both again with subtitles.

Got my hub delivery today, thanks @blu.steel33. It’s a shame about the writing on the back of the Akira slip but whatever, I missed out on the previous release so this is still the next best thing. Much better than the funimation release and no disc replacement needed.

I’d never seen NGE before either so I purchased a used set of dvds of eBay for about £80 and I’m loving it so far. Still debating whether I need the blu ray in standard or collectors edition, I have the adv dubs/subs and soundtrack on the dvd so I might plump for the standard edition with just the newer Netflix subs/dubs. Also, the set came with the films “death and rebirth “ as well as “end of evangelion“, am I right in assuming the first two are recaps and the other is the new ending?
Also managed to snag the samurai champloo steelbook for £15 in the Zavvi sale but it’s sold out now, I went back to get the bunny girl senpai ce too but that had sold out too unfortunately so I might just get the standard edition, I watched the first episode on Netflix and like it so far.

I can’t make my mind up with this one, I got the full slip with itmfl but I’m leaning towards the lenticular here.

Hi @Mattrivers95 just go into the GB form (green button) like normal and fill it out to confirm your choice.
Thanks, I filled the form about an hour ago, I got an internet connection error message but it looks like I’m on the main gb thread, I didn’t want to fill it out again in case I’m creating a duplicate.
-
hi I’ve forgotten how the early bird registration works, do I simply fill out the gb form like normal or do you need additional confirmation? Thanks.

I got mine today as well. Luckily I cancelled my order from Amazon and went with wowhd instead, they had the good sense to send it in a box so it arrived undamaged. That being said the box that houses the steel books is still very cheaply designed, the dividers have come loose and it doesn’t quite match the avatar box. I’ve taken the steel books out of both boxes and put them on the shelf without them instead, although the spines of both sets don’t quite match either and the korra titles don’t align properly. Oh well I’m still looking forward to watching korra for the first time.

I missed out on the first release so I’m glad this is being released, gone with the A1 slip for now but I quite fancy the lenticular too. Do we know if the lenticular will be an o-ring or a normal full slip? I wasn’t sure if that’s something kimchi always do or just certain titles.

Good Evening @ksosk; (and other friends) 🙂
I would be very interested to know, if Diskino has any plans for releasing a CE of Jiang Ziya, the follow-up to Ne Zha ?
I very much enjoyed Ne Zha and have ordered the amaray ed of the new film but would most assuredly be interested in a spec ed of it as well.
Should you hear word, I feel confident that there's a few of us that would order.
Ta! 😀
Seconded.

The artwork choices are good here, especially the one with the eye, but I wish they wouldn’t use o-rings for the inner contents instead of a slip cover, that one in the clip looks very loosely fitted. Also, I wonder why they didn’t use that classic poster design for the outer wooden box, or even the unicorn one, instead of that drab image that was used for the steelbook.
Ok I’m done nitpicking now.

I reeeaaaally like the full slip, and the effect has grown on me too. Less keen on the SL, I think the booklet front would have made a nice slipcover, it looks like something plain archive would do. Steelbook back cover looks great too.

hi can I change my edition from lenticular to the new A1 full slip now that it’s officially changed? Thanks, my position is #42.

Yeah I prefer this out of all of them, it’s odd they’re not making this the lenticular though given the art repetition.

That’s the spirit, I did the same thing with wcl Wild At Heart. I thought everyone did this but it’s quite controversial in some parts. I’ll be doing the same thing with Novas mulholland drive when studio canal put out a steelbook.
