Gonna stick with the old BD on this one. Such a great movie though.

I'd be interested in hearing from you guys that got this. What did you think of the 4k? Did it blow your socks off into the neighbors house just ok or disappointing and we riot.

What? Where? How? 😜

I’m watching the 4K disc on my Sony 4K 48” OLED TV and my Sony UBP-x700 10 feet away and it looks fantastic to me! 😉

I went back and am currently finishing the rest of the movie on the 4K disc. For some reason I found this “AI remaster” approach to be much more tolerable on True Lies. I don’t think it works for Aliens.

It’s weird, some shots do look pretty striking, but overall, I think everyone looks like wax figures. It looks like your classic case of DNR and sharpening turned up to 11.

I also happen to think the grainier film stock suited the film perfectly, so it’s a shame to lose that visual style that worked so well.

@Veum I’m watching on a 77” Sony OLED from 7 feet away so it might be more apparent on my setup, but I’m glad you’re liking it though!

Thanks buddy! I really am glad you’re enjoying it. I adored the way the old Blu-ray looked, so I’m not too broken up about it, will go for that older disc in the future. Because for me:

I'm 50 minutes in. It's a mixed bag: Detail at times can be phenomenal: you can see the pores on Ripleys face, and ship and environment detail that wasn't clear before. Then 30 seconds later, things will look waxy and cloudy, for lack of a better term. I know some people are worried this is another T2 type of putrid transfer, but it's not. It's much better than T2, but I just wish more care had gone into it.  Alien on 4K is one of the best transfers on the format, proving if done right you will have something that enhances the original.

My 4K copy skipped and froze a couple of times later in the film, just needed to wipe the disc off I think/hope (I’ll start doing this more often before I start my films from now on! 😉). 😒

Also: I'm watching this on a 77in LG CX 4K OLED, sitting about 7ft from the screen.
