When the first Avatar was released in the theaters, the wife and I looked at each other around the 1 hour mark and without a word or a gesture we both in unison stood up and walked out. To this day, it’s the only time that has happened.
It would be great to hear what movies everyone walked out of.
I have only walked out of one film, ever, and I am going to get a big 'ole clapback from many members here who love the film I left.

I also get the criticisms, but for me it was just pure cinematic fun.
Yep. Didn't hate it, let myself go and exist in that world for the 16 hour run time, and am happy to experience the new one, whatever it offers.

but good for Cameron for crafting such a crowd-pleaser and raking in the dough.
Absolutely right, and thanks for adding that in. I am NOT a hater, that's not my thing, and am glad he is doing what he has earned the right to do. I hope he uses that money to make something awesome. Maybe he'll give some to Coppola to finish his movie.

I'm still getting to know your tastes buddy, so curious if you like it. We liked it a lot because we watched it after The Marksman & The Electrical Life of Louis Wain. So I needed to have a peaceful movie that was chill but interesting and took me some place (France 1789) that was distant and dreamy. And Sophie is French and a fantastic cook, so we got that going too.

When I saw the first "Avatar" I was surprised by its simplicity; not because James Cameron is a director of twisted stills, but because, in my opinion, it lowered the tone of the target audience beyond the usual on him. That point at which the film bifurcates from being a sci-fi/action film to being a very Disney film -before it was even bought by Disney- was something I didn't expect.
I didn't think it was a great film, rather weak, entertaining up to a certain level, and forgettable -beyond the innovative 3D- after that.
I agree 100% and have been thrashed by my boys for not getting as swept away as everyone was. It's an achievement, no doubt, it flexed the technical side of filmmaking, which is incredibly important, but as a movie, as a film "document", I don't think it was even close to on par with other Cameron films from a storytelling/character standpoint. Well said @Casiusco.
I'm going to see the new one in NYC at the iMax in a couple weeks.

If you want a "foodie" movie that is super relaxed and a well crafted watch, try Delicious. It's an easy going pre-French revolution story about a chef to a Duke. More subtitles, more reading, more grey cell flexing @Reagh! It's a nice palette cleanser.

Very nice. Congrats. I really enjoyed zooming in and looking around. Is that a miniature Palais Garnier opera house? It doesn't quite look like it from that angle.

Thanks @Fortis93 for the great recommendation! This was not on my radar at all. I'm looking forward to diving in to this. I am big sucker for a sports movie. Hoosiers meets The Basketball Diaries meets Gigli? I'm in.
btw . . . this is how I imagine an MP open gym would look.

Good morning to all.
I have read this article, which tries to badmouth Coppola and his new film, and instead of hurting him, it has made me even more eager to see "Megalopolis".
Is the filming in chaos? I don't know, maybe.
Is he spending too much money? I don't know, maybe.
Have you had to change some of the crew? I don't know, maybe.
All I know is that the last time Coppola went through something like this.... he gave us a masterpiece, "Apocalypse Now", widely criticised for its crazy shooting before it was released; and the other time he went bankrupt, he gave us "One from the heart", a great, delicate and tuly wonderful film.
Let's hope it follows the same path now.
Yes, maybe the filming is "the horror, the horror" again...
A wonderful horror that I want to feel again.
"Megalopolis" is already on my agenda.
Have a good day everyone!
I certainly hope you're right and will try to join you in your optimism. But . . . an 83 year old using his own money on a film, when he's never directed something as technically difficult as this, I'm skeptical this will end well. I welcome being wrong.

If we worry about what is readily available for everyone we will never fully step out of our comfort zone. The point of the club is to experience films that our buddies from around the world want to share with other members. Personally I’m going to blind buy millionaire’s express. If one of us picks something that isn’t readily available that’s a good thing in my opinion. Everything great requires effort. Those that can rent have that as a option or Amazon delivers in 2 days or you can just sit out a week. I just don’t like the idea of someone not picking a movie they really want to share just because it’s not free on a streaming service.

I was actually surprised at the limits of availability of many titles online. Subconsciously I have always thought "everything is out there" somewhere. Nope, not true. Renting is fine.

At first I was like ‘what the hell is this lunatic talking about?’
Took a few seconds for the penny to drop 😆
@Reagh spotted a sliver of Shawshank Redemption out of focus in the background of a BS of another release, nothing gets by this dude.

@cypheria078 2012 made it to my state's post office but an alert popped in the tracking saying Insufficient Address. I called the post office within 15 min of the alert and the guy said that the package was already put on a truck back to china and he couldn't do anything. He said that the address was smeared and was illegible to read.
That is a huge bummer. Three words I don't want to hear in this hobby "back to china".

This has languished on my watchlist for far too long, my anti-western prejudice getting the better of me.
So glad on a sick day I decided to give this a try. Credit maestro Leone and watching his For A Few Dollars More a few days ago for whetting my appetite.
This was truly an actors showcase, but with the type of high octane action you expect from Mangold. Makes me cautiously optimistic for the Raiders this summer.4/5
I loved this movie. As you note, those two together, so many great moments. I've already decided next time I teach, I'm going to use this movie. Particularly the crafting of the scene in the hotel room before they make the run for the train. Holy schnikey. Elevated Christian Bale even a notch higher in my eyes.
Agreed on Raiders. I love that franchise so much, I'm willing it to be amazing. As you and I discussed a few months back, the casting of Fleabag, friggin' genius. It would be interesting if she becomes the new "Indy", unlikely, but what a great 21st century spin that would be. Dial of Destiny? Terrible name.
Hope you're on the upswing buddy. Sucks to be sick.

I'd be more afraid of the Tickler from GoT tbh.
A group of my long time friends use that phrase as a tension breaker. If someone says something super deep, or philosophical, or personal and there is an awkward silence of some kind, someone always says "I go to the dump to shot rats" and we all fall out laughing.

Yeah, you and @Gary K have convinced me. I'll wait to see it when I go to NYC at the end of the month.
