I’m so torn on it. Some of it looks epic and grand.
 

Some of it looks “too perfect”. What I mean is that the characters look like models or cosplayers. There’s no ruggedness you’d expect to see from people living in Middle Earth. I’m hoping I’m totally wrong though.

I completely agree. Some scenes really looked epic, and others far too polished like straight out of a soap opera. I hope this doesn't end up feeling like a show on The CW.

Exactly! What’s crazy is the budget is so huge. I feel like they could’ve found time to develop more realistic looking characters that actually look like they live and breathe in that world. I’m not opposed to them using good looking actors, but at least give them a rugged appearance. Viggo was a handsome dude, but looked very believable as a Ranger. So did Elijah as Frodo, etc. I’m just not buying it with these actors. The world looks great though. Like I said, I hope I’m wrong.

We are getting a closer look at the lives of the elves which are the more beautiful "fairer" race I suppose... so I can shrug off the model-esque casting for now. I just want a more believable dark and medieval fantasy world, not a romance novel. I have to say I've rewatched it a few times now and felt better about it each time. Hopefully that's not just some kind of Stockholm syndrome at play 😅

I'm not sure, but this does not scream $1 Billion dollar budget to me. Game of Thrones was about $10 million per episode, roughly $100 million per season, and it looked SIGNIFICANTLY better than this. Maybe it's just me, but the integration of effects and practical variables just look off to me. As much of a LOTR fanatic I may be, I'm not too excited about this anymore.
