Hey Guys! I appreciate the warm welcome! I stumbled upon this forum looking for some blu-ray releases for a particular movie. I am a mainly a music memorabilia collector, but am now expanding to movies. eBay has been my main source for purchasing limited releases, but it looks like I am missing out on a brand new concept that I just discovered, which is group buys! The idea is still fairly new. I would appreciate any guide or assistance on how I can properly participate on it.

As I'm fairly new to movie collecting, I am still trying to grasp the idea of different releases, under the section Steelbook groupbuys, it looks like there's BB, bluecats, bluefans, etc. Are those the different retailers? Is that the main list of possible editions/releases for a movie?

As I continue to follow more releases for the steelbooks, I am very much excited to participate in this forum and meet new people! Thanks again everyone!

All very good questions @Mark!!

So first off, in regards to group buys, I would very much recommend reading the tutorial and rule posts at the following link: HERE

That will get you off to a good start. If you're more of a visual learner, like myself, then I would highly recommend @romeroland's video guide that I'll link below.

To answer your question regarding Blufans, bluecats, etc....Those are all companies essentially that release premium movie editions that we collect here. You mentioned that you really only used eBay previously for purchasing limited releases, but you were most likely paying a hefty price over retail for those as a lot of scalpers (though some sellers are legitimate and are selling the product for what its going for in the third party market which is fine obviously) will purchase multiple copies and sell at an increased price on there. Where as joining a group buy like you will find on this site will allow you to obtain premium releases at retail price (or sometimes only a little above depending on fees, shipping costs, or if you want extra insurance etc. Even with those though you usually will end up paying much less than you would on eBay.

Not all of those companies will release EVERY movie as a premium edition. Some release older movies, some have pre-orders out for movies that are still in theaters and haven't been released yet, some do both. It's best to just browse through each companies group buy section and see what they have available. I would just say to be careful and only join Group Buy's that you are SURE you want to own and participate in. Backing out of a Group Buy after signing up for it is highly frowned upon due to the amount of work that goes into putting them together behind the scenes. New members are required to purchase a deposit which won't be refunded if the GB is backed out of, but will be refunded after the group buy is completed. There is more information on that in the rules and tutorials I linked above though which I recommend reading through thoroughly.

Let us know if you have any further questions and I or any other member of the forum will be happy to answer!
