  1. Ohhh, it's that Christopher Nolan—the one who directed the Dark Knight trilogy, Inception, and Dunkirk. Helpful info on the cover.
  2. I know! Believe me, I don't make that comment lightly. In this case, I think HDz went for a little too much, and it's all kind of indistinct. FAC went with the original poster, and there's not a lot of depth, but the lenticular adds a translucent effect that brings the poster to life. Also, the back of the HDz is (to me) really boring. On top of it all (literally), the FAC has the classic tagline. Winner.
  3. And in other classics, I uncovered this archival photo of an It's a Wonderful Life steelbook, circa 1947. Who knew! Will have to track this one down.
  4. HDz Jaws arrived yesterday. I think FA won this round—might even say they blew HDz out of the water, but that risks punning. Anyway, nice to get to see them both together. Thanks to MP for the HDz GB!
  5. He'll change it to whatever you want, and you can check it before he prints it. I had everything switched to English for the Baby Driver set I bought.
  6. There's a fair bit of this happening. for example, does really excellent work, and is happy to work with people to get just the right artwork (and language) on his editions. I have his edition of Baby Driver, and it's by far better than what the premium retailers did. What you lose with fan-made editions is the fancy texturing and depth lenticulars—so that's why I'm interested to see what @ksosk will put together here, since he's got skills. I agree, and it's why I think the Durieux poster is so good. It takes that classic image of Holly looking at the window and then adds Paul in the background, gazing, ready to love, but kept distant by Holly's daydreams of what she might be (and is she looking through the window, at the Tiffany's merchandise, or is she looking at the alternate Holly in the reflection? As her window reflection is then reflected back in her sunglasses, there seem to be unlimited alternate versions of her, keeping her from responding to the possibility of connection and love that are right there, if she'd just look.). For me, that image captures a stasis point in the story and the existential yearning that's at the heart of it all.
  7. If you need text for booklet articles, I can write something. That's what I do.
  8. Well, what you've got looks 1000x better than what WCL is doing, so congratulations! Tell me it'll fit a steelbook, and I'm in.
  9. Wow, you really got the rights to the Durieux art? That's amazing! While you're at it, you should see if you can print a run of posters that are normal-person price. It's one of my favorites, but way out of reach. This concept is looking a lot like the steelbook concept I did: I think having a border around the image, as on the original poster, sets it off nicely with a more finished look. Also, like you, I couldn't figure out what to do with the back. With front art that's that good, you kind of don't want to cheapen it with unrelated clipart. When I couldn't find anything that paired well with Durieux, I just went ultra-simple. One request: Any chance you could make the slip the right size to hold a steelbook? I'm sure there will be one eventually, and I'm sure it won't look great and so will need a beautiful slip like this. Thanks!
  10. I can't believe that's actually the artwork. 🤦‍♂️
  11. It's a wooden case for a sci-fi movie in which wood is a precious commodity. It's a case that looks like a book but holds a movie (and not a movie that was based on a book). The front and back covers of the case (that looks like a book) seem backwards from any book except manga (and the movie has nothing to do with manga or Japan). The cover of the case (that looks like a book) opens in a way not anything like what you expect, given how a book opens. It's a box that will be stored in another box (and likely in another box with another movie in a box in a box), containing more folders and boxes and (eventually) movie discs. Like it or don't like it, but you have to admit, it's unusual.
  12. Thanks for your kind reply. I was surprised that the steelbook seemed to be ready for production back in June and then the news completely shut off. Good to know I didn't miss an actual cancellation notice, and I do hope this edition will move forward!
  13. Sigh. Yes, yes. But other steelbooks have been produced during these months, and this one actually had a real mockup created already some months ago. That's why I asked.
  14. Thrilled to see WCL doing this one and Paris, Texas. Can't wait to see the designs! Any chance of an ongoing Wenders WCL series? I'd be interested in seeing Until the End of the World again—it's been a lot of years.
  15. I skipped this because Blufans had announced the WEA plus a WWA. I got the WEA, but now kind of wish I'd gotten this one for the WWA, too. My favorite SW movie.
  16. When I think "epic Mount Doom conclusion," I think "light blue, with snowflakes and sparkles." Good call, graphic designer.
  17. I didn't like it much at all the first time I saw it. Watched it again a week later and loved it. It'll never be as much a favorite for me as Inception, but it's quite interesting. I recommend listening to the soundtrack a few times before watching the film—the sound is immersive and kind of overwhelming, so I found it helpful to have some recognizable anchors throughout the movie.
  18. It makes sense to me not to commit an unknown amount of money for an unseen item. Sometimes I may miss out on something, but over the long run it feels like the best decision.
  19. The top one goes in the FAC orange slip. (kind of a boring edition overall, but everything matches nicely) Next one in HDZ single lenti. (second-favorite set) Third one is my least favorite. It's in the Kimchi lenti. It's one of the ones I'll sell (though the lenti is really good). Japan exclusive in the FAC double lenti. (top favorite set) Best Buy steel in the FAC edition that has the lenti magnet that matches the steel. Filmarena steel in the HDZ double lenti—teaser posters on the slip, main poster on the steel. (third-favorite set)
  20. I think I found it for sale on its own for a good price on ebay, back when it was pretty new. It was hard to find, which made it more special for me. I have all the steels and premiums for BR2049, mixed and matched to make really good complete editions. (Though I'm now thinking of downsizing and just keeping maybe the three sets I like best.)
  21. Yep—and I don't mean any criticism of your design work, @ksosk, which is always excellent. But since the studios do license alternate artwork (Mondo, Bottleneck, etc.), it seems like they could, if they wanted, broaden the licensing terms to be able to put all the art to any use. But: I know nothing about all the inner workings, so I'll be quiet now.
