Just paid for them today, they allow you to wait to pay until they come in stock so did that.  Dvdstore.it packaging has been phenomenal, so they are my go to when purchasing a bunch of items.  Shipping is just too expensive for single items.  Anticipate they will be sent today, and will probably receive by Monday or Tuesday.

I'm assuming you mean DVD-Store.it?  dvdstore.it doesn't seem like the right site.

That is incredible to hear that you actually wrote and directed a Bond spoof!  I am just a fan and a collector, so can't imagine all of the work involved in that, definitely requires a creative mind.

The 2nd row of Bond films from Best Buy are all gloss finish.  So far I only have the Dr No steelbook from the new releases (rest I expect in next two weeks from dvdstore.it and I will post those when they arrive).  The Dr No new release is matte, but not a streaky matte almost a shimmery matte and doesn't look that bad.  The new releases are missing the 007 symbol on the front that the Best Buy ones had, the 007 on the spine is smaller on the new releases, the MGM logo is different, there is no Bluray emblem on the spine, and the artwork wraps around the spine.  Inside is pretty much the same, although UK bluray is just plain blue.  So as far as matching not great, but I guess we take what we can get.  Feel free to let me know if any other questions anytime.

Well, don't be too impressed, we used C list actors and shot in a studio in New York, with projected plates on a cyc wall.  We built some cool sets, though.  No exotic locations or Bond girls for me.  :(   But, it was a lot of fun and was a success for the client.

Thanks for breaking these down for me.  I looked on eBay for some of the Best Buy versions but there aren't many listed.

Did you receive any of your new Bonds from Dvdstore.it yet?   Well, I guess it's only been a few days, so probably not.  Just eager to hear your thoughts.

I decided to grab all the ones in stock at Zavvi.  Looks like there are 17 in this style total, if you include Dr. No 60th.  I'm excited to get them and see what they're like.  And to watch these films again.

Not too late at all!  Are you still NY based? I’m out on the east end of Long Island, but come into the city regularly.

Hey Gary!  No, I left NYC a few years ago.  I still have clients there and am back frequently, but the Shenandoah Valley was calling.  I miss the city, and can see myself moving back, but Covid made it an easy decision to hide out for a while.  Where in Long Island?  I used to go to Montauk and Amagansett in the summers a lot.

Prob don't want to derail the thread too much, feel free to PM me.

  4. Am I too late?  Late submissions allowed?

It's 1997, I was living in Gramercy Park in New York.  I walked down 3rd Avenue and went in to a store called Blockbuster.  There was this new thing called a DVD.  There were only about 30 of them in the bin.  I bought Amadeus.  I started collecting DVDs, at one point I believe I owned all that had been released in the US. (there weren't that many).  :)

    .  247704083_20221011AmadeusVideoIMG_1935.thumb.JPG.77ce374837e803f1fd8c1582e67e65a0.JPG

My DVD collection and my Blu-Ray collection grew.  When 4K came out and I thought about re-buying titles, I was like nah, I'm done.

I'm an obsessive vinyl collector, and have been largely focused on that for a long long time, so I never really noticed Steelbooks.

Then . . . a month ago (09/22), I walk in to Barnes and Noble and buy these.  Okay, I get it, these feel like endgame video collectibles.

I start researching and discover this community called Media Psychos.  Wow.  I am a firm believer in finding the experts and learning from them, no need to reinvent the wheel.  And that's what the MP community is: a group of helpful, friendly, experts.

I make my first Group Buy for Manta Lab ZSJL.

     This . . . . . . . . . . this is fun.

As a filmmaker I am often asked to shoot in 6k, or 8k.  It's sexy, it's fun to talk about, it gives you cache, and yes it's more flexible for cropping and editing, but . . . 4K as a deliverable is as good as I will ever need for viewing on a large TV from 8-20 feet in a living room.

4K Steelbooks and the art on these amazing premiums feel like the sweet spot for movie collecting.

Looking forward to becoming a part of the MP community.

It sounds good. Of course, if you have mountains nearby, or if you have time to go, it's a charming time. The woods usually get very pretty; and we can breathe, feel that fresh air, nature around; drink something hot tasty, and if you add some pleasant conversation to that, the best.

No, it's not the best for productivity. ;)

But Virginia sounds good. We should all go... :D

You are all invited!  The reason I came here from New York was the nature and the weather.  Pretty fantastic.   But there are many beautiful places in the world to be.

    Nice words!

I like autumn, but I don't like the first few weeks, because here in summer we have many hours of daylight, until 11pm, and in autumn the days are getting shorter, shorter, and the first sensation is that you no longer have time for nothing, that everything is work and then it's already night.

Having more daylight hours changes the/my perspective of many things, it's something that instills optimism. There is always another possibility.

Then coming to Christmas when I've gotten used to it, it's even pretty. But the landing... always requires an effort. ;):D

PS: The changes of the weather... these last years are not like before. It's cold, suddenly a strange delayed summer appears, suddenly it rains non-stop, or it never rains. You never know what to expect.

I never thought of that, that there would be this transition as the daylight fades, then you would get used to the new rhythm.  Makes sense when you write it out.

The last week here in Virginia has been absolutely gorgeous.  It has been a terrible time for my productivity!  I wake up, and head to the mountains with the dog.  The leaves are changing and the air is clean clean clean.  And coffee from my thermos tastes soooooooooooooooo much better than it did three weeks ago when it was 80 F.

  7. An MP etiquette question.

I bought and received the MantaLab ZS Justice League Full Slip from the GB.  Thanks MP team.   I like one of the lentis that is currently available in the MP store better than my full slip.

If I buy one of the ZSJL lentis from the MP store, and sell my full slip on eBay, would that be cool with this community?  Is there another venue for trading or selling this within the community?  We vinyl collectors hate flippers (those who buy only to sell).  Not sure how it is here in a situation like this.

I hope this is a valid question, I haven't really seen much convo about selling/trading GB purchases, but figured someone would let me know if there are unspoken (or spoken) rules here.  Since this was my first GB, wanna make sure I stay in bounds.  I know, I know, I should just buy both!!!!  I promised myself I wouldn't double dip.  :)

Also would probably be good for some other newbies to read the answers.

    Thanks!

Here are nearly all the official Bond steelbooks released (other than the new ones just released and some unusual dvd steelbooks from overseas in a different language that I have seen before):

    1st and 2nd  picture

-Top row: 2008-2009 Best Buy Bluray steelbooks

-2nd row: 2015 Best Buy bluray themed steelbooks

-3rd: 2015 Goldfinger European steelbook, 2021 Goldfinger Zavvi steelbook, 2012 Goldeneye Play.com steelbook, 2010 Casino Royale German steelbook, 2013 Skyfall UK steelbook, 2016 Blufans spectre lenticular, 2016 Kimchidvd Spectre full slip, 2022 No Time to Die Taiwan full slip and steelbook next to it

-4th row: 2020 UK and Best Buy 4K Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, and Spectre steelbooks (Best Buy are full gloss, UK matte)

    3rd and 4th picture

Top row: 2021 No Time to Die Walmart special edition amaray with box and Safin mask keychain, No Time to Die other Taiwan full slip with steelbook below it, Titans of Cult Casino Royale with steelbook below it, 2015 Best Buy The Daniel Craig collection steelbook

2nd row:  2021 No Time to Die Target special edition fullslip amaray, rest in that and next row are parts of the printing ones listed

My favorites are the Play.com Goldeneye steelbook, the Blufans Spectre lenticular edition, and the 2015 European Goldfinger one that has the whole steelbook in gold and the title embossed (unfortunately the back is the exact same artwork).  As stated the customs from @R1s1ngs0n are the best hands down and blow all of the economy ones away, except Goldeneye because that is one of my all time favorite steelbooks 😎

What a great survey of all these Bond titles.  Thanks so much for doing this.  And, the photos are big enough I can zoom in and really see them.

I'm curious, do you know the difference between the 2nd row Best Buy versions and the current offerings on Zavvi?  Is it just gloss vs matte?  It's a shame there hasn't been just one series for all these.  I know it's an active series so would be hard to keep it current.  Such great movies though.

I'm very intimate with the first 15 scripts.  I was hired to write/direct a James Bond spoof by an advertising agency back in the late 90s, I had a month to write the script, so I was neck deep in these movies for while.  It was fun, . . . actually it wasn't fun at all, it was hard as hell and I hated doing it. hahahahahaha, but I loved it when it was done!!!!  It left me with a love for these movies though.

I'm probably gunna start grabbing the Best Buy versions, I like the vintage feel.

Sooo...I take it you don't like Mean Girls? 🤣

    Mean Girls Whatever GIF

But, yes, there is something very calming about watching a film or tv show in which you are familiar. I believe there was a study conducted about that very topic. It creates a sense of relaxation because we know what is going to happen and we KNOW that we will enjoy it. There is no chance of disappointment. Obviously, this is desirable to some (like me) in a world filled with unpredictability, anxiety, and chaos.  Nostalgia is also a powerful relaxer.

There is also the added bonus that you may see something or catch a joke you have previously missed. I have "go-to" films (Mean Girl is one) that I pop in if I'm desiring the opportunity to just sink into the couch and turn off my brain. I have a few TV shows that I cycle through as well. Namely The Office, Scrubs, and Parks and Rec.

Anyway, hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Oh man, this post speaks to my experience 100%.  I have such an addiction to TV shows I grew up on.  I have them on constantly.  I'm a filmmaker by trade, and when I'm in a coloring session or logging footage (something that is mindless), I put on a TV show, and let it go, episode after episode.

Okay, confession, I have watched Wings (the 90s TV show) clear through 12 times.  It's better than bourbon or prozac.

Well from the MRI the first pop in my knee was a complete tear of my acl 😢,  the second pop was a lateral meniscus tear, and just for kicks I also have a grade 2 mcl injury.  In other words I totally destroyed my knee 😞

Holy cow!!!  That is rough.  That's like professional football player serious.  So so sorry.

This month stretch might be my worst expense ever for this collection adding in other things.  Two WeET OCs, probably two CM releases, at least one Manta release, the LOTR HDZ, probably other group buys I am forgetting, all the new Bonds from DVDstore.it, an MRI of my knee, and hopefully not knee surgery.  What an absolute crazy month stretch.

    Dance Reaction GIF

Hope that knee isn't anything serious.  But, all of the rest looks amazing.

I'm a vinyl collector as well and had a huge hit with the release of the Bill Evans Riverside box set the month.  That added to my steels and I grabbed LOTR HDZ and the Manta JL and a few other things.  It adds up, but it sure is fun.

I was hard on UHD Club for their Jaws edition, which I didn't think did the film proper justice.

But, I think they did something right with this E.T. release.

A rare example of alternate artwork that actually works in commemorating the legacy and magic of the film.

Well said.  That's why I asked here, to help me frame this release for what it is, and not my preconceptions of what I think it should be.  All good.

bad bad bad psychos . . . look what you made me do . . . Joined GB . . . take my money and mail me joy.

I think the box colors and the design are beautiful, that's not my wonderment.  It's the connection to the movie that I am missing.

Not that the box has to specifically go with the movie, I get it.  In fact it's cool when it doesn't sometimes.  But my cinemaphilia is twitching.

My mom worked at the mall when I was a boy.  So, I roamed the mall for 6 hours a day sometimes.  When E.T. came out, I saw it around 30 times that year.  I can't for the life of me think of a scene with watercolors in it.  Maybe in Eliot's room?  It's been a bit.  I feel like it's something obvious I'm missing.   Too lazy to watch it again just to see.

Or it could just be a pretty box.

Good morning, all. Thanks for the well wishes.

We're watching this one VERY closely. It won't hit us directly since we're on the east coast but there are a couple of scenarios where it would put us on the "dirty" side of the storm after a short jaunt across the state. My main concern is one palm tree in front of the house (~5ft away) that is diseased and has a weak point facing the house. That sucker is heavy and would do some serious damage if the winds snapped it.

I also have some family in the Tampa area so really hoping this thing weakens a bit before getting close to land

Yeah, hoping the best for you and your family over the next few days.

I spent a lot of my childhood in Sarasota, FL, so monitoring these storms is normal.  My mom and sister still live there.  We have dodged every major storm for 40 years.  Talked to my sister yesterday, she's in law enforcement, and they are preparing for the worst.  I feel badly hoping it goes north and hits some place else.  The west coast of FL seems to escape a lot of these storms, not this one, though.  Best to all who have family and loved ones down there.
