  1. Big thanks to the man in charge @Masterblaster for fulfilling a special request, and appreciate the gloves!

Number 035 on Grindhouse is awesome, especially since its Nova set 35! Roman Holiday looks great in hand, very nice.

Thank you to the MP crew for another smooth UHDClub GB with Apollo 13.

Also received Duel, a highly sought after title for me, bought this through the bay.

FILMS UNEARTHED #14 The Good, the Bad, the Weird (2008)  @Rambo

Thanks @Rambo for the incredibly fun watch.  Korean spaghetti Western's are now on my radar.

Well, where to start with this one.  What a fun ride.  I see why the epic desert chase scene gets all the attention, it is truly epic and absurd (in an exciting, fun way) .  But my favorite chases and moments were in the Ghost Market, when the movie got small, and very very very funny.  It was great that the Weird was our anti-hero, and Song Kang-ho and his obsession with always having his leather "helmet" on, was hilarious.  It was such a great performance because it wasn't too bumbling, which would have felt to vaudevillian, it was perfectly balanced from a directing and an acting standpoint.  The relationship between the Weird and the Good was also fun, and it's great that the Good is going to continue to chase down the Weird at the end of the movie.   Was there a sequel?

The shoot out at the end could have been way too easily messed up, but it was perfect.  And the capper, the oil treasure, and Song Kang-ho's expression when he realizes what he has been chasing, is "priceless".  It was a bit hard not to think of Parasite while watching him, I have to admit.

The train sequence at the beginning was amazing.  Those parenthetical credits were literally part of the building action as the movie started ramping up.  I read that this movie, at the time, was the most expensive Korean film ever made, 17 million dollars (?????).  I think a lot of it went in to the train sequence, it was choreographed amazingly well.

My only complaint was actually that the desert chase did go on a bit too long, I found myself tuning out a couple of times and I could see the chase distance reset at least three times.  That motorcycle must have been fast!  (The most famous distance reset is probably Raiders of the Lost Ark, when Indy is running away from the Hovitos at the beginning; while in the woods he's very close, but when we cut to the POV of the plane, the Hovitos are a good 200 feet behind him).  I watched this film on AppleTV and it was the international cut.  I am curious to see the Korean cut, which is even longer.  I'm wondering how much of that was an extended desert chase scene.  My preference would be more scenes in the Ghost Market.

I give it a solid 8.0 for the fun factor and the action spectacle and Song Kang-ho.  Thanks @Rambo !

@BreakBeatDJ thank you for your review of the Good the Bad the Weird!

I enjoyed your take on the film and your comments. What a wild ride it is and I’m glad you had fun watching it!

I don’t think there was a sequel but what potential.

I wonder if any of us saw the ‘Korean’ version, as it looks like all of us are watching the ‘International’ cut, with the endings being different I really need to check that out.

  3. hey ya'll. Been awhile, figured I'd share some recent arrivals. Including one from my favorite retailer, Cinemuseum, as well as the Lord of Collector line.

Quality on the LoC is better than expected. With the lettering having special attention, with a wood like finish. The box also has metal clasps. The Boxset itself is sealed, and the Arcylic Protector is also sealed.

I updated the second post of the topic with the progress we made.

I watched The Good the Bad the Weird yesterday. Thanks @Rambo.

As I wrote in a previous post I started this one time before (years ago) and stopped as I found it annoying. Not sure what my problem was back then. Maybe I expected something else.

Anyway I thought the movie was okay, surely not a complicated film to follow. Here you get a rather simple action oriented movie, which you get plenty of. It is solid, nothing that really stands out but also nothing that is bad. I was surprised that we had absolutely no female character that played any kind of important part in the movie. Performances of the 3 lead were good. I'm not really a fan of pairing Korean Cinema with wild west elements, I don't think it fits together that well, here is was okay. You might already guess from my few sentences, the movie did not create a negative or overly positive reaction, it was a good 1 time watch, nothing more and nothing less. 7 Points.

As for my pick, are you guys interested in trying out an Anime, or would you rather watch a live action movie.

Thanks for the update and review Nils!

My vote would be anime as I don’t really watch it. I love classics like Akira but hardly watch any nowadays

Congrats Zach!   That is killer!!!!!   Looking forward to the pics on the Show Us thread!!!!!

I’d be happy too!!   What number?

Thank you Mark! I had some help and encouragement from our friend Reagh. If not for him I never would of asked.

I got #97. The hunt for old sets with that number is on, so if any are spotted please let me know 👍

  6. alright, going to thank myself for this weeks movie pick "the Good the Bad the Weird".  Thank you @Rambo for your impeccable taste in movies 😅

    slight spoilers ahead, nothing big.

I've already seen this film quite a few times, and will always look for an excuse to watch it again. I enjoy it immensely, and each subsequent watch is no different. Both this film, and I Saw the Devil, have the ability for me to 'reset', and watch the film with no preconceived notions as if I haven't seen it before. Maybe I do it on purpose, but I like to believe its due to the quality of the movies.

I classify the Good the Bad the Weird, as nothing more than a fun movie. I can't help but have a good time watching this. Between the action unfolding, and the perfectly placed humor.

It's not complicated, it is easy to follow. You aren't necessarily learning new things with each watch, but the acting and story are so good that it's worth rewatching.

Song Kang-ho has the standout part in the movie, and he nails it. His antics kill me, he is the 'weird one', underestimated and appearing to be nothing but a bumbling fool at times. Meanwhile he is a ruthless bandit known as 'Finger Chopper'.

I just watched it again last night, and would have no problem putting this back on tonight, I like it that much.

"Any guesses on what's going on there" might be my favorite line from the movie lol.

    9.5/10

I think you have the same taste as I do.  I prefer an old sample, 60s/70s soul jazz, or tribute hip hop, to the overly produced mainstream or even alt hip hop of the last 10-15 years.  So, anything that has that Stones Throw Lord Quas, Beatnuts, etc. vibe, I'd love some recommendations.  Thanks bud!

Yes, 100%. Definitely prefer an old sample to the overly produced mainstream. I had a Siriusxm sub for quite awhile, but eventually gave up on that as well as normal radio. I rely on word of mouth, forums, and similar artist suggestions.

Not to give too many, feel free to jump around. I am more of an album guy, than a track person. Meaning, I don't put together playlists. I prefer to play full albums, and not jump around after 1 song.

I think the first four you'll especially like 👍

Von Pea & the Other Guys - the Fiasco
Your Old Droog - It Wasn't Even Close
Boldy James & the Alchemist - the Price of Tea in China
    Oddisee - Odd Cure
    Roc Marciano - Marcielago
Daniel Son & Futurewave - Pressure Cooker
UFO Fev & Big Ghost LTD - the Ghost of Albizu
Joell Ortiz & KXNG Crooked (aka royce da 5'9)- H.A.R.D
Apollo Brown & Joell Ortiz - Mona Lisa
    38 Spesh - 38 Strategies of War
Ransom & Big Ghost Ltd - Heavy is the Head
    Guilty Simpson - Sterling

You remember Bus Ride, with Quas and Madlib, and those silly Em vocals? It's a funny track if you don't know it, funky with the soul jazz samples.

    Yes! haha!

I love when Madlib pulls his Quasimoto voice. I always wish I had picked up some of those limited figurines they'd occasionally release.

Yep, fantastic album from beginning to end.  I remember when that dropped.  Stones Throw's roster was smokin' in those days.  Aloe Blaac and that retro-R&B love too.  Some good stuff.  I wish I listened to as much hip hop as I used to.  It's almost all jazz these days.  I didn't realize you were such a hip hop head.

yeah Stones Throw in its peak was quite something! I love Aloe Blaac, and my favorites of his are the ones with Exile - in their duo Emanon.

hip hop is my top genre, I also listen to different shades of rock. But that's about it.

With work I am fortunate enough to be able to listen to what I want, so I'm always playing something.

If you haven't been following hip hop, and want some suggestion on artists to check out, just give a holler 👍

Love that track and the Angelo Maximo sample!

Big fan of all these guys, Your Old Droog is my favorite MC (guest on this track), and tha God Fahim isn't far behind. Cobbler is my favorite track off the album, and it's hard to chose!

I've been the biggest Oh No fan ever since Exodus Into Unheard Rhythms where he sampled only music from Galt MacDermot.

Image may contain Human and Person

His whole family is musically talented as you may already know. With his bro being Madlib, and his father - Otis Jackson.
