    Hey @DarthEd !

Did you ever get around to reading "2061" ?

It's pretty good, lots of techno-babble, which I don't mind but had to get it (MANY years ago) so I'd have the full trilogy.

Track down the PB (or better yet the HC) if you haven't yet, it's worth it. 1f642.png

Now, to track down "3001" the final book !

Yes, I read 2061 when it came out. I still have the hardcover. Actually, I didn't like it very much and never read 3001 as a result. 2010 is great though. I still have the paperback with the artwork shown above.

  2. Have to say that I'm underwhelmed and disappointed by the design of the outer slipcase. Maybe it will look better in person. I hope so. I'm not crazy about the design of the two booklet covers either.

I very much like the "Star Child" artwork and design used on the inner case for the discs, however! I find it slightly odd that it's actually the artwork from the cover of the 2010 novel though, but I'm OK with that.

  3. First Man - 9.5 out of 10

The best movie I have seen in 2018. Very powerful, intense, intimate, and visceral filmmaking. I was sweating through every mission even though I knew the outcome, and I got goosebumps when Armstrong left the lander to take his first steps on the Moon. After WhiplashLa La Land, and this, Damien Chazelle can really do no wrong in my mind. Ryan Gosling was a great choice to play Neil Armstrong. Claire Foy was remarkable as well.

  4. I started watching anime back when English dubs were generally awful and best avoided, so I will always default to watching with subs. There have been some very good English dubs though. Cowboy Bebop's English dub stands out (although I personally prefer the original Japanese voice actors), as does Samurai Champloo and GitS: SAC. Mary McGlynn will probably always be my preferred Colonel Kusangi.

I would definitely go for the double dip award :)

I'm double dipping like crazy on some great movies ;)

Haha, me too, especially for movies with separate 3D and 4k releases. I've actually triple-dipped or even quadruple-dipped on Star Wars: The Last Jedi, Avengers: Infinity War, Black Panther, Blade Runner 2049, and Ready Player One....

Yeah, FLCL Progressive isn't getting great reviews, unfortunately. My understanding is that Progressive is the continuation of the original series. I'm still not sure what FLCL Alternative is exactly, but it sure sounds like a reboot, like what they did with Full Metal Alchemist or the new Ghost in the Shell series.

Actually, FLCL Alternative is another continuation. Very confusing. http://flcl.wikia.com/wiki/FLCL_Alternative

Hey @FN-2187, I'd love to hear of any new purchases from your end as well! You too @DarthEd and the rest of ya!

    Cheers my friends! 1f600.png

Hi, @Grendel! I’m still waiting on my Osamu Tezuka's Metropolis steelbook. I feel like that’s been in the pipeline for far too long. I hope it gets released soon.

My most recent purchase was the Galaxy 999 collection at Nova a couple months ago, but I haven’t gotten around to watching it. Looking forward to it.

Before that, I think we’re talking 5 Centimeters Per Second from the same director as Your Name (whose name escapes me at the moment). If you haven’t 5 cm/s, I would call that a must-watch if you liked Your Name. It’s arguably even better, certainly more layered and complex.

I did see a couple animes in theaters this summer. Fireworks, Should We See It from the Side or Bottom? got poor reviews, but I liked it for the most part. The Night Is Short, but Walk on Girl is weird but very cool and kind of brilliant. I’ll probably be looking to add that to my collection and try to see other films from the same director.

Could someone explain what’s going on with FLCL? I thought they were making a continuation, but then I heard something about FLCL Alternative? Sounds like a reboot instead of a continuation.

  9. My suggestions:

    Goodbye Dragon Inn

    The Road Home

    Yellow Earth

    Farewell My Concubine

    To Live

    The Story of Qiu Ju

    Hero

    House of Flying Daggers

    Vive L'Amour

    Café Lumière

    Millennium Mambo

Basically almost anything by Zhang Yimou, Hou Hsiao-Hsien, or Tsai Ming-Liang. :)

So in your case, the cheapest solution is to get a B player (region free is always more expansive). But it only makes sence if you plan to buy more region B discs, since most stuff is released in US/Canada.

That's a good idea! While I am often tempted by Region B discs (Zavvi keeps releasing nice anime steelbooks that are Region B only), I really haven't seen a need for Region C. So, yeah, a Region B player is really all I need, not Region-free. Hmmm, that is a tempting idea. I will try to resist it. :D
