There were digibook versions of WW84 and GvK? The Mantalab editions I have for those movies are steelbooks....

Oh, I didn't realize this was different from the other Mantalab releases. I don't recall them releasing digibooks before....

The Zavvi GitS is very nice and tempting, but, like you said, I already own at least four editions of GitS. It’s probably my all-time favorite anime, but I think I’ll hold off. If it sticks around long enough that Zavvi puts it on sale, I’ll surely pick it up, but I’m holding strong for now. The Babadook in 4K though was an insta-buy! I don’t own a physical edition and have been hoping/waiting for some boutique publisher to put out a nice edition.

@Grendel: It’s gorgeous, certainly, but it’s way, way too expensive for me and I could do without the bare breasts, personally. That’s the only expensive figure I own, and, at times, I’ve regretted spending as much as I did for it and I even pre-ordered it at a discount. Which is weird, I guess, because I’ve spent more on one-clicks like the HDzeta Dark Knight Trilogy boxset that I’ve never even opened. 🤔😁

This is a must-have. I ranked this movie in my top 4 of 2019, and 2019 was an exceptionally strong year for movies, I feel.

Hi, @Grendel! Thanks for the lowdown on 4k Akira and the Dynit Bebop. I so wish there was a 4k + 3D TV on the market! I love 3D and am very envious of your 3D plasma. Unfortunately for me, I bought my plasma TV before home 3D was a thing and then it broke almost a year ago after 3D had just disappeared from the home market. During that time, I’d have to get my 3D fix from theaters and one of my best friends who has a 3D plasma TV. I replaced my dead plasma TV with a 4k OLED, which I love and performs similarly to plasma, even better really. I hope 3D will make a resurgence in the home TV market. TV makers can’t just keep upping the resolution forever. Maybe Avatar 2-5 will be 3D’s savior once more.... Cheers, my friend!

Hi, @Grendel! What’s the story on this 4k remaster of Akira? How are the reviews? I got the GitS Best Buy steelbook, even though I prefer the design of the 4k slip. Just couldn’t justify getting both when I have a bunch of other GitS editions already.

I already pre-ordered this steelbook from Zavvi. I love the slip and would love to have it, but I don’t need all the paraphernalia that comes with it. I’m guessing this will cost close to $100 delivered to the USA. Considering the difference in price, I think I’ll stick with just the steelbook.

What makes this Italian edition the best, @Grendel? Thanks, Ed

Sadly, this edition has ben canceled, possibly because of all the feedback that the price was too high.

That’s funny! It’s the only one I couldn’t get into for that same reason. It just didn’t feel like Shinkai to me. 5 Centimeters Per Second, on the other hand, is one of my favorites and quite possibly my favorite Shinkai.

Thanks, @Grendel. I appreciate the advice. I was considering it, but I was on the fence since I just bought the Akira One Click (from KimChiDVD, I think?) last year or two years ago. I could definitely see upgrading to a 4k version at some point and I’ve loved some of WCL’s other releases, but nobody should be cutting corners with Akira.

I love Paranoia Agent. Satoshi Kon is one of the best. I preordered this steelbook as soon as it went up. May not be your style if you like action anime though.

Funimation is releasing a steelbook for Paranoia Agent (it’s a Best Buy exclusive), so I definitely think it’s possible we might see more Satoshi Kon steelbooks in NA. I hope so!

I would love a Plain Archive (or KimChiDVD or NovaMedia) release of this with English subtitles!

And, of course, GKIDS just announced their own Collector’s Edition for Region A. It looks like it doesn’t have a steelbook, but it’s not clear. I think I’ll probably end up canceling the Zavvi edition though. 🤔
