Multi Retailer The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (4K UHD/2D Steelbook) [Italy]
BreakBeatDJ replied to ElDiosRubio's topic in Amazon.it
This edition has been randomly appearing at Amazon and then disappearing. I got one when it showed up a Amazon.de a couple weeks ago. Unknown if it’s a full repress. I hope all who want one can grab it at retail. -
This and That (Where Great Conversations Are Happening)

What do you make of this announcement? Anything specific that intrigues/excites/concerns you? I'm curious if this type of announcement/partnership means good things for the community typically or heralds something else. Sort of general industry question I guess. -

Top notch post. Thanks for this, very thoughtful. -
Hmmmmmmmmm . . . not promising. Thanks for taking the time to give your thoughts. I ordered the 10 available from Zavvi. Should be here next week. I'll post a similar pic and look to see if everything is as you describe with mine. Now, the other 7 that seem to be in this style, on Zavvi they're listed as sold out, or have they not been released yet? They are : From Russia With Love On Her Majesty's Secret Service Casino Royale Diamonds Are Forever You Only Live Twice Thunderball Goldfinger It's difficult to know for sure if the Zavvi Skyfall and Quantum of Solace are meant to go with these. Thoughts?

At the birth of hip hop, when I was in my early teens, here in the US, I was a DJ. I played mostly in parks, skating rinks, and an occasional "room" in a secret club, and later in college had a radio segment of hip hop mixes. I did get the amazing experience of playing at the first hip hop club in Florida, at Miami's The Beat Club on Byrd Rd. On Friday nights, I rubbed shoulders with all the early luminaries of hip hop. Amazing memories. (I am not in this picture of Run DMC performing at the Beat Club, but I was there! and I dj'd on that stage where Jam Master Jay (RIP) is standing) Back then, I owned every hip hop album there was, because, well, there weren't very many. For an MC to rap, you have to have music playing underneath that has no words (so the words from the song don't interfere with the words of the rapper). So, what you would do is find a "break" in a song that had only drums in it, no words, and usually only minimal instruments. For example, the first few measures of the Aerosmith's song Walk This Way: it is only drums. This is a break beat. Now, we didn't use Aerosmith back then, Run DMC did that a few years later. We mostly used beats from late 60s and 70s funk jazz, particularly albums that came on the Blue Note label. (If you're interested in that music with loads of funky breaks, Blue Note released a series of CDs called Blue Break Beats in the 90s, easy to find and inexpensive and a fantastic sampler set of music from that era) You take two copies of the album, Walk This Way for example, and you put them on two turntables, with a mixer in between. While one of them is playing the break, you are "rewinding" the other one back to the beginning of the break. So you alternate between the two turntables, one is playing the break, the other, you're rewinding to the beginning of the break. The few measures of exposed beats at the beginning of Walk This Way are not nearly long enough for an MC to rap over. So the DJ, just keeps playing, and rewinding, and playing and rewinding the break beat and it can go on forever, so the rapper has time to spit his rhymes. The DJ skill lies in the ability to do it seamlessly, so the beat never stops, and is always in perfect rhythm. Thus, I was a BreakBeatDJ The end of the musicology lesson for today, Psychos. You'll all be quizzed next week. :)) I'm sure our resident musicologist @ethnosax would ace the test! And thanks for the fun challenge @extantsrevenge. Keep them coming.

Still loving the leaves changing and the weather here in VA. Getting the car serviced this afternoon and a buddy is picking me up, heading to Shenandoah National Park for a 5 mile loop up Brown's Gap. Best time of the year. Hope all everywhere in the world will kick the week of strong! -
@Grendel and I started a convo in a release topic about lobby cards so, I thought I'd move it here. Sorry to let you down, but my full lobby card collection is in storage (climate controlled of course) so, nothing too impressive to show. It sounds like your setup is going to be pretty saaaawweeeeet once you get everything sorted in the guest room. A media library sounds pretty fantastic! You can get those lobby cards out of their case. When eBay launched in the late nineties, one of the first things that popped up randomly as I was browsing the digital bay, was an original lobby card from Willy Wonka with the Oompa Loompas. That started a binge. I actually preferred the faded ones, where they had this beautiful soft aged look. I set up a metal frame in my office, then on 21st street in New York, and I'd rotate them out. They were great conversation starters. I was shooting a lot of bath and body advertising at the time, and I remember being influenced by that muted, desaturated look. Never any primary colors in them either. Super awesome style. Even though the lighting is almost always terrible, at least by today's standards. My fav one is this one. A Casino Royale of David Niven. I don't know why, it just struck me as awesomely ridiculous. Just makes me smile. One of my vinyl collecting buddies is a huge, and I mean huge, movie poster collector. He's got it sorted. He had one big section of a wall in his basement, about 2 meters wide, built as a gigantic light box. You can then slide movie posters in and out very easily in a loose frame. And they glow! It's very cool. The double sided ones obviously don't work. He's got a great eye for posters that go together. I don't know that I'd want to take that much wall space for that, but I'm thrilled someone else did it. I'm partial to people who love something so much they got to extended ends to enjoy it. Send some pics of your media library when you get it set up. Curious how you display things.

Old news to you folks, but big news for me. Got the DKTril in mail yesterday. Wouldn't have paid secondary market prices for them but thrilled to have hunted them down at retail. I do see the quality dif between these and the Manta Lab ZSJL I got from MP GB. These are a great value, but the printing, the extras, the slip, just a coupla notches down. I still love em though.

Football is on the big screen (muted), listening to Jazz Dispensary Gary Bartz vinyl, surfing some MP goodies. Great afternoon so far! -
You quite nicely stated my daily torment of this hobby. Buy now, or wait for 4K or complete set or premium, blah blah blah . So many beautiful Steels out there for BluRay. I'm so new that everything is available for me!! Unlike most of you, who can ignore some releases because you already have premiums, etc. I'm in the honeymoon phase where it's hard to say no to anything. This is really a great pickup. Congrats!
